Located right in the heart of Tours, the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle offers an engaging, multi-level journey through the natural world. A great way to explore is starting on the top floor, which features an extraordinary collection of taxidermy. The preserved animals are in incredible condition and look remarkably life-like—making it fantastic for showing children the true sizes of majestic creatures like tigers and bears up close. Descending to the floor below reveals a thriving vivarium and aquarium space filled with living wonders. A major highlight here is the ant colony featuring clear tubing strung across the ceiling, allowing ants to move freely right above your head as you explore. This floor also houses a diverse mix of snakes, turtles, fish, praying mantises, and adorable axolotls—a captivating area where you could easily spend hours. The ground floor finishes the journey with rotating temporary exhibitions. Practical Logistics Location: 3 Rue du Président Merville, 37000 Tours, France. Transit: Situated in central Tours it is an easy stroll through the pedestrian zone from the city center. Parking: Paid street parking is available along nearby streets. The city is very walkable so I would recommend to go by foot. Costs & Ticket Free Admission: Completely free for visitors under 26 years old (bring a valid ID), as well as for all visitors on the first Sunday of every month. Standard Rates: €5.40 ; €2.70 reduced rate Opening Hours: Open Tuesday through Sunday (9:30 AM – 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM).
