It is as famous as Huangshan and was personally named "the first mountain in the south of the Yangtze River" by Qianlong, but it is so low-key that it makes people feel distressed. ⛰️ Why is it seriously underestimated? 1. The "No. 1 Mountain in the South of the Yangtze River" stamped by Qianlong It has a high historical status and is known as "Huangshan and Baiyue are the best in the south of the Yangtze River". It is not only one of the four famous Taoist mountains, but also named "Qiyun" by Emperor Jiajing because it can see the sea of clouds 260 days a year. 2. Rare Danxia landform + cliff ancient village Unlike the granite of Huangshan Mountain, Qiyun Mountain is a red Danxia landscape with green water and Danxia cliffs, which has a unique visual impact. The most amazing is Yuehua Tian Street, an ancient Huizhou village built on a cliff, with white walls and black tiles looming in the clouds and mist, like a street market in the sky. 3. The Danxia red cliffs paired with the vibrant life of the ancient village are absolutely incredible. 🥹✨ 🚗Getting there Take the high-speed train to Huangshan North Station, then take a taxi or the shuttle bus from the station; it takes about 40 minutes. For those driving, it’s even easier—the attraction has a large parking lot, making parking super convenient. 🅿️ 📌Recommended route (tried and tested!) Yuehua Cable Car 🚡 → Wangxian Tower → Shouzi Rock → Zhenxian Cave Mansion (grotto relics nestled in the mountains, very atmospheric in the daylight) → Yuehua Sky Street → Taisu Palace → Xiaohutian → Yuxu Palace → Ziyun Pass → Wulao Peak → Fangla Village → Danxia Corridor → Highest Peak → Cable car down The pace of the entire route is just right, with Danxia cliffs accompanying you the whole way. Throughout August, Qiyun Mountain Scenic Area offers free admission to tourists from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, and Shanghai. You can also enjoy free access to Qiyun Xiaoyao Street + Ziyoujia Camp. It's a great place to cool off and take the kids—go for it! 📸 Took the kids to Qiyun Mountain for the second time. When people mention famous mountains in southern Anhui, most immediately think of Huangshan 🏔️, but Qiyun Mountain really hides a different kind of gentleness and grandeur! I have seen many landscapes, yet I rarely call a mountain stunning until the moment I reached the top of Qiyun Mountain — the Danxia cliffs, the mountain villages, and the sea of clouds before me hit me hard! Who else gets it, folks? 😭 🚗 Getting there Take the high-speed train to Huangshan city, then take a taxi or transfer to the scenic area bus; the ride is about 40 minutes. Driving is more convenient. The scenic area has parking lots 🅿️, so parking is super convenient 📌 Recommended route Yuehua cable car → Wangxian tower → Shouzi rock → Zhenxian grottoes → Yuehua sky street → Taisu palace → Xiao Hutian → Yuxu palace → Ziyun pass → Wulao peak → Fangla zhai → Danxia corridor → highest peak → cable car down The whole route has a very comfortable pace. The Danxia rock faces accompany you the entire way, and the sky street is full of everyday life and atmosphere 🔥. From the heights you can look down at the villages and fields, and the view is so wide you want to scream! 🌟 Tips: Zhenxian grottoes (in Qiyun Mountain Scenic Area, Xiuning County, Huangshan City. Open 8:00 AM–5:00 PM) and Yuehua sky street (in the same scenic area. Open 8:00 AM–5:00 PM) are both worth taking your time to explore. Wulao peak (in the Beihai area of Huangshan Scenic Area, Tangkou town, Huangshan district, Huangshan City) is good for distant views, and the view at the Tianmen is excellent 🏨 Where to stay This time I stayed at Qiyun Mountain Resort Hotel, the official scenic area hotel, located at the foot of the mountain in Qiyun town (Qiyun town, Qiyun Mountain Scenic Area, Xiuning County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province. Open year-round). It is only a few dozen meters from the cable car up the mountain, so you can step outside and go straight to the cable car 🚡. The hotel has its own restaurant and recreation area, so it’s very convenient for resting and eating — perfect for families with kids or anyone who wants an easy trip 💡 Practical tips ✅ Summer perks: visitors under 18 get free admission 🎫. Qiyun Mountain
Qiyun Mountain isn't particularly high, but its Danxia landforms and the cliffside Taoist temple along Yuehua Street do give it a truly ethereal feel. The easiest way to get there is by cable car, which takes only eight minutes to reach the mountainside, saving you the effort of climbing the trails. From the top, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Hengjiang countryside. After descending, you can take a bamboo raft down the Hengjiang River, a leisurely four-kilometer journey passing the ancient Dengfeng Bridge, with the reflections of the mountains and water all around you. Combining the cable car and the raft makes for a relaxing experience that allows you to see all the highlights without getting tired.

The wetlands on the edge of the village have unique scenery and ancient water conservancy projects. Even without a guide, I only understood them intuitively, and they were impressive, though not entirely clear. Free admission and well-managed—thumbs up! Perfect for relaxation, unwinding, and team building. I imagine the stream would be full of children playing in the water during the summer.

Chengkan was my favorite attraction on this trip. During the day, I explored the historical sites, and at night, I watched the fish lantern show. Participating in the activities created a festive atmosphere, making it hard to leave. Highly recommended! Staying in the village is best for a more immersive experience!

Tunxi Old Street was very popular. I sampled the local snacks, strolled around Liyang across the river, and took a boat trip in the evening to enjoy the light show on both sides of the river. It was a very relaxing experience.

I went there for the giant turtle, but the rain on October 1st was too heavy. Even with an umbrella, it was useless; the rainwater dripped from other people's umbrellas, and I was soaked to the bone. I was quite a mess, and I didn't even get to see the giant turtle. Oh well, I'll leave it as a regret and go again next time.

It offered a highly entertaining way to learn about Huizhou's culture and traditions, but wasn't the best value for money. Especially for tourists who had seen similar performances before, it lacked a sense of novelty.

The whole village of Muli is camel-shaped. It is most clearly seen from the opposite mountain, which is called "Qianshan" by the locals. The locals in Qianshan planted many tea trees. The yield in the past few years has been good. In recent years, the young people in the village have chosen to go out to work, leaving only the elderly to guard the village alone, and a lot of tea has been abandoned. Many bamboos are also planted on the Qianshan, and the locals also make a living by selling bamboo. Looking from the Qianshan to the opposite side, you can see the whole village. The scenery is very beautiful, especially after the rain, you can see the sea of clouds. The whole village is like a fairyland.

The Huizhou Prefectural Government Office truly lives up to its reputation as the core government office of ancient Huizhou. Restored to its original site according to Ming Dynasty regulations, its central axis layout is orderly and solemn, with the ceremonial gate, main hall, and second hall unfolding in sequence, showcasing the grandeur of an ancient government office. The exquisite Hui-style wooden structure and intricate carvings add to its charm. Visitors can also watch live court performances, gaining a direct experience of the ancient government office system. The office exudes a rich historical atmosphere, making it more than just a place for taking photos; it's a perfect opportunity to quietly appreciate the cultural heritage of Huizhou and a must-see cultural highlight in the ancient city of Huizhou.
田园生香菜Hengjiang Landscape Bamboo Raft
It was a rainy day when we visited. Fortunately, there were occasional light drizzles during the first half of the hike, allowing us to overlook the pastoral villages below. The rapeseed fields were beautiful. The rain intensified in the second half, reducing visibility and making it difficult to see far into the distance. We completed a large loop hike and took a bus down from the visitor center. If it hadn't rained, we planned to hike the entire loop from the back. Our total hike took four hours. Although it wasn't perfect, as we didn't see the distant scenery, we saw most of the major attractions.
