The location is excellent, close to everything you need around Yulara. The service was outstanding, with staff who were always friendly, welcoming, and happy to help. Dining was also a highlight—Geckos and Ayers Wok both offered delicious food that really made the stay even more enjoyable. Overall, The Lost Camel Hotel exceeded my expectations. The enormous sandstone monolith rises more than 300 metres above the surrounding plain and is one of the most important cultural landscapes of the Aṉangu Aboriginal people, who have lived in the area for tens of thousands of years. HISTORY Uluru is far more than a geological formation. For the Aṉangu Traditional Owners, the landscape is deeply connected to Tjukurpa, the traditional law, stories, spirituality and knowledge passed down through generations. The first recorded non-Aboriginal visitor to reach Uluru was explorer William Christie Gosse in 1873, who named it “Ayers Rock” after Sir Henry Ayers. The traditional name Uluru has since become the official name of the landmark. In 1985, the title to the land was formally returned to its Aṉangu Traditional Owners, with the national park subsequently managed jointly with the Australian Government. WHAT MAKES ULURU SPECIAL? Uluru is famous for its enormous size, distinctive shape and dramatic red-orange colour, which changes throughout the day depending on sunlight, shade and weather. Uluṟu creates two very different sunset photographs, depending on which official viewing area you choose. Choose the Uluṟu car sunset viewing area for the famous colour change. The sun sets behind you, lighting the entire rock as it shifts through pink, bright orange and deep red. This is the classic first-visit view. Arrive early and continue towards the far end of the parking area for a clearer composition. 📸 Choose Talinguṟu Nyakunytjaku when you want the setting sun beside Uluṟu. Trees and desert vegetation can frame the scene, while the platforms and walking tracks give you more angles. It is the main sunrise area, but the park says it is often almost empty at sunset. 🌿 The practical difference matters too. The car sunset area is 15 to 20 minutes from Yulara and has no water or toilets. Talinguṟu is about 35 minutes away and has both facilities. For a first sunset, choose the car viewing area. Pick Talinguṟu for a quieter solar-disc composition. Photograph Uluṟu as a whole rather than zooming into culturally sensitive details, and leave before the park closes. Uluru (Ayers Rock) is very mystical. Initially, I only booked the sunset and sunrise tours, but that was a tour to view the whole of Uluru from a little distance. I wanted to see it up close, so I joined a tour that went around Uluru. I was able to see it up close and even touch it. There were some areas where I couldn't take photos, so I can't show you everything, but I was impressed by the majesty of nature like I'd never seen before. I recommend it!
ひよこ旅Is this a place you must visit once in your life? Calling out Love in the Center of the World... We came during the local summer, which is considered the off-season. There were not many people because it was too hot. We also encountered a rare thunderstorm and the Wilderness Starlight Show was cancelled.
wxx1026We were without a car and stayed in small houses, this was the cheapest accommodation in Yulara. Next to the campsite there is a stop from which we left for excursions and where the Hop-on-hop-off bus and shuttles to the airport stop. The house (or rather, half a house) has a table under a canopy outside, where you can have dinner. It is cramped inside, but it is designed for 6 people, a double bed in one room and two bunk beds in another room. In the middle room there is a sink, table, dishes and a microwave. You can cook in the open kitchen of the campsite. Toilets and showers are also shared. There is a pool. I recommend it if you need budget accommodation.
