Fortress Hohensalzburg Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
The fourth largest city in Austria, the capital of Salzburg state, is Salzburg city, which is known as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Salzburg is the gateway to the Alps, and the beautiful Salzach River divides the city into the old town and the new town. The city has churches and monasteries with unique features and a long history.
In the center of the city stands the Mirabell Palace, along with its palace gardens and fountains, as well as the Salzburg Fortress, which can be seen from anywhere in the palace gardens or the city and is a symbol of Salzburg.
Salzburg's most famous pedestrian street in the old town is Getreidegasse, which is full of various gift shops and food snack shops. Number 9 on this street is the building where Mozart was born, which is now the Mozart Museum.
In the city, there is the first Baroque-style church, the first monastery in the German-speaking area, and the oldest surviving convent in the world.
When traveling to Austria, Salzburg is a must-visit place. Walking in the exceptionally beautiful and green Salzburg, which is shaded by trees, is worth a visit.
Fortress Hohensalzburg
Fortress Hohensalzburg is one of my most favourite places that I have visited in Salzburg Austria. It is a beautiful medieval fortress in Salzburg City. You can take funicular to to the top of the castle. On top of the fortress, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the city. You can also enter the fortress whereby you can study the history behind Fortress Hohensalzburg.
Going up to the Fortress Hohensalzburg

The Fortress Hohensalzburg is an important landmark of Salzburg. It depicts the history of the city and it is still a very popular tourists attraction in the city.
In the history of Salzburg, the start of building the Fortress was in year 1077.
I admired the beauty of the Fortress and how it stand tall, massive and majestic on the top of the hill! It was a pleasure looking at although it was already my second time visiting the city but it still a place that I keep looking forward to.
As we went up there to see the Fortress, I kept on looking at it not worrying about the time. I just wanted to enjoy the view while reading the history on how it was built and the people behind building this large medieval fortress.
Going to Salzburg from Munich by train is just fewer than 2 hours and if you’re lucky enough to book your ticket earlier, you might get the best price!

Beautiful Hohensalzburg Castle in Austria
Salzburg fortress or Hohensalzburg castle is a stunning historic castle, high above the baroque towers of the city and not too far from the Central parks and avenues, it's really worth a visit.
🚌 Hohensalzburg Castle is at the top of the Festungsberg, 200m above the city’s old town. It is a 15-minute walk from the center or a one-minute ride up in a glass funicular, that starts from 'Festungsgasse'.
🎫 A basic Ticket is 12,90€ currently, discounts for kids available. 🕛 I think a two hours visit is enough to learn about basic history and take some nice pictures.

Salzburg Beyond Hollywood
Salzburg is perhaps best known for its association with Music. Aside from being the setting of one of Hollywood's greatest musical, The Sound of Music, it is also the birthplace of the musical genius, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
There is, however, countless ways to experience this Austrian city aside from what Hollywood has portrayed. One can find unique and magical ways to discover Salzburg any time of the year.
Autumn perhaps is one of the best time to go when the summer crowd has already tapered down and you can almost have theanicured gardens all to yourself of a small group at a very comfortable temperature.
Enjoy the Autumn breeze as you walk around Mirabell Palace and explore the labyrinth of colors from its garden. Perhaps you may also want to take a glimpse of Schloss Hellbrunnand be amazed by its majesty.
You may also simply just take time to absorb the calmness of the surrounding mountains.
#fallingforfall
It is very beautiful garden which is plenty of flowers. The famous fountain from The Sound of Music can be found here. Luckly, the entry of the garden is free.

Salzburg Cathedral...
Salzburg Cathedral is famous for having one of the largest pipe organs in Europe.
It was built in the 17th century and played a significant role in the spread of Catholicism to Germany.
Mozart was baptized here, and as a child, he attended mass and played the pipe organ and piano.
It is also well-known as the place where some of his works were premiered, making it a site closely connected to Mozart's life.
The interior of the cathedral is decorated with marble and paintings, creating an atmosphere of elegance and luxury.
The cathedral was partially destroyed during World War II but was restored in 1959.
Revisiting Salzburg, experiencing a different Central European mountain city
Walking on the streets of Salzburg, I always think of a song, Eason Chan's 'Long Time No See'. This should be my second encounter with Salzburg, meeting again, this city gave me a different feeling. Passing by the majestic cathedral, through the bustling Grain Alley, looking at the Hohensalzburg Fortress with more than 900 years of history, familiar and strange.
Salzburg itself has not changed, it is still that historic Central European mountain city, what has changed is the person viewing the scenery. The elderly couple helping each other on the street, the couple looking at each other in the church, the passers-by in a hurry, make this city warmer. I used to always overlook the people in the city, but now I am always moved by such and such scenes, this may be a kind of growth.
Every encounter between people is a new interpretation of life, and so is the city. Many friends who have said goodbye never expect to see each other again, but the world is big and small, in the vast sea of people, we will meet again.
