A traditional scene in Dubai

We at Trip.com like to think we know travel. So we thought - why not share our local knowledge with our users?

We want to shine a spotlight on the best of the places we know and love. And, if you find yourself with the opportunity to take a long weekend (or even longer) away, we strongly suggest heading to Dubai. Whatever your taste - whether it's sightseeing, beaches, or food - this Emirati city has it all.

So without further ado, let's provide you with a list of some of the best things to do in Dubai. Some are local knowledge gems, while some you may well be familiar with, but one thing's for certain - they all come with our seal of approval.

Check out our recommendations below - first though, a little bit about the basics of Dubai. Enjoy!

Where is Dubai

Let's start with some of the must-knows of the area.

Looking over the majestic Arabian Desert in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Dubai is home to a growing population of expats from around the world. In fact, it recently hosted its jubilee celebration, marking 50 years of the formation of the Emirates.

Not many know, however, that this urban miracle was once an ordinary fishing village, with an economy that heavily relied on manual labour to harvest wild pearls from the ocean. Today, it has grown into not only a world-renowned financial hub, but is the wealthiest of all 7 Emirates.

Now that you've got the basics down - check out our breakdown of some of our favourite things to do in Dubai…

The Creek is one of Dubai's famous natural landmarks

The Creek is one of Dubai's famous natural landmarks

Our first recommendation for things to do in Dubai is - and let us assume in this admittedly hypothetical scenario - that you're looking for things to do with the family.

If that's the case, we can heartily recommend spending time in one of the Dubai Parks and Resorts, which boast several incredible theme parks that you can enjoy. BollywoodParks™ Dubai will make you and the family feel like you're on set of a true Bollywood masterpiece, while Motiongate™ Dubai - home to many of your favourite animated heroes, such as Shrek and Kung Fu Panda - is a great place for a family visit.

However, we must shout out LEGOLAND© Dubai. Here you'll find all the lands, kingdoms and - of course - adventures you expect from the ever-popular toy bricks. Over 40 LEGO® themed rides, shows, building experiences and attractions are to be found here - need we say more?

If you're all done with theme parks, we have a totally different recommendation for you. While Dubai may be synonymous with all things gleaming and modern, be sure to also check out the city's old town and historical district. Al Fahidi is the cultural heart of Dubai - take the opportunity to wander along the creek, and explore the old souks of gold and spices to get a flavour of the 'old' Emirates.

Where to stay:

If you want to stay near the Dubai Park and Resorts, you'll be delighted to know that Trip.com offers rooms at Legoland Hotel Dubai, should you wish to continue the whimsy of your day trip.

If you'd like somewhere closer to the old town, book a night at Al Bandar Rotana – Dubai Creek, a 5-star beauty right on the Dubai Creek.

The Museum of the Future is sure to be a hugely popular new attraction in Dubai

After a day of family activity and exploration of the old, we think it's time to recommend something a little more grown up and modern - and we believe the stunning Museum of the Future fits the bill.

Opening as recently as February 2022, this eye-catching exhibition space showcases some of the world's most impressive innovations and futuristic technologies. These include sophisticated robots, amazing AI concepts and radical climate change innovations. Do not miss out!

Of course, after all that futuristic exploration, you'll fancy something to eat. Look no further than the Time Out Market Dubai, a sprawling food court with a terrace offering everything you could wish for, whether it's vegan eats, Asian fusion, Balkan feasts, pizza or fine dining. All of this, and it's located under the shadow of the Burj Khalifa.

Where to stay:

Next to the Museum of the future lies 25Hours Hotel One Central - a new, contemporary 5-star hotel that's already earning rave reviews with Trip.com users.

Alternatively, check out the 4-star Towers Rotana Dubai, situated adjacent to the Burj Khalifa.

The View at the Palm - one of the best in the world?

The View at the Palm - one of the best in the world?

Finally, surely one of the biggest must-do experiences in Dubai is immersing yourself in The View at the Palm. The Palm Jumeirah is one of the most famous attractions in Dubai, with the tower offering 360-degree views at a height of 240m (787 ft).

Sweeping vistas at sunset looking over one of the city's iconic destinations - what can be better than that? Be sure to book at Trip.com to get the full VIP experience.

Near to the Palm is the Jumeirah Mosque, one of the cultural landmarks of Dubai that reminds us of the state's important religious background. Guided tours are on offer to those who want to understand a little more about Islamic history and culture while here.

Where to stay:

What about those of us who fancy a little bit of serenity on our trips? We have not one but two hotels that will help you there. If you're looking for a quieter resort by the beach, or a spot of golf, check out JA Lake View or JA Beach Hotel. Both offer exquisite surroundings, and will help you in your quest for relaxation.

Fancy somewhere a little closer to the Palm Jumeirah? Let's recommend somewhere right on the palm itself. Raffles the Palm Dubai is a 5-star wonder, only built in 2021 and already earning fantastic reviews for its exceptional luxury.
