TOKYO GAME SHOW

Established in 1996, the TOKYO GAME SHOW (TGS) is a massive annual video game exhibition held at the Makuhari Messe convention centre in Chiba, located just outside central Tokyo. Alongside Europe’s Gamescom, it represents a primary pillar of global video game showcases and industry networking.

While Western events frequently focus on PC and console blockbusters, TGS offers a distinct immersion into Japanese RPGs (JRPGs), anime integrations, mobile gaming, and virtual reality technology. It is also highly regarded for its massive indie developer showcase and its dedicated cosplay community.

TGS 2026 Lineup (AIGC image, some exhibitors and games may not be available)

The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) has confirmed that 759 exhibitors are participating in TGS 2026, comprising 484 domestic Japanese companies and 275 international organisations.

While publishers release their exact playable demo titles closer to the event, the official exhibitor lineup features major industry giants:

  • Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation): Returning to the general exhibition floor with a significant presence to showcase hardware and upcoming titles.
  • Capcom: Renowned for hosting highly anticipated playable demos for major franchises such as Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.
  • Sega / Atlus: Anticipated to show off premium JRPGs and action titles.
  • Square Enix: Showcasing upcoming projects, updates, and merchandise.
  • Bandai Namco, Koei Tecmo, and Konami: Bringing major anime adaptations, competitive titles, and massive interactive booths.
  • Game Freak: The iconic developer behind the mainline Pokémon series is officially confirmed as a general exhibitor.
  • Selected Indie 80: Supported by industry sponsors, this dedicated section gives 80 selected independent global developers free booth space to showcase highly creative, boundary-pushing indie titles.

🎮 Things to Do at TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026

With multiple massive exhibition halls to explore, prioritising your time is key. Here are the essential experiences to target:

  1. Play Unreleased Demos: Test highly anticipated games months before their commercial launch. If you want to play a major title, head directly to that publisher's booth first thing in the morning to obtain a seiriken (numbered priority ticket).
  2. Explore the Indie Area: The "Selected Indie 80" pavilion offers some of the most unique gameplay concepts and gives you a chance to chat directly with the developers.
  3. Photograph the Cosplay: During public days, dedicated outdoor areas fill with incredibly detailed cosplayers representing characters from games and anime. Always politely ask before taking photos.
  4. Browse Exclusive Merchandise: Many publishers bring limited-edition figures, apparel, and soundtracks that are only available at the venue. These often sell out by Sunday night, so shop early if merchandise is your goal.

💡 Tips for Visiting TOKYO GAME SHOW 2026

  • Select Your Footwear Wisely: Expect to walk over 15,000 steps daily on unyielding concrete floors. Wear highly supportive athletic shoes.
  • Bring a Reliable Power Bank: With heavy phone usage and crowded networks draining batteries quickly, a high-capacity portable charger is indispensable.
  • Prepare for Long Lines: Demos for premier games regularly command wait times between 1 to 3 hours. Bringing a portable gaming console or a book helps pass the time.
  • Screenshot Your Tickets and Maps: Mobile cellular data towers inside Makuhari Messe often become extremely congested and stop loading. Download your entry QR codes and hall maps to your local storage before you reach the station.
  • Avoid the Transits at Nishi-Funabashi: During peak morning and evening hours, transferring trains at Nishi-Funabashi Station becomes incredibly crowded. I find it much more comfortable to take the direct Keiyo Line from Tokyo Station straight to Kaihin-Makuhari.

When I booked online for the room, I stated very clearly no corner room, but when I discovered my room is nearly at the end, was a bit not happy. The location is 7 mins walk to suidoboshi station. But it's not very near to places like shibuya or Tokyo, a bit disappointed the single room is a bit small, but the milk lotion, liquid cleanser, face wash packet they provided is gd. A bit surprised they don't provide spoon but stirrer. The room is clean, and there is lawson at 2nd floor and laundry service at 7th level. I have taken video of the room but can't attach here, wasted. Near the suidoboshi station are some eateries. They provide one water bottle daily and clean the room daily which is good. If you preferred a clean room, this hotel is apt for u. The hotel provided airport limousine bus to airport but not vice versa

Location of the hotel is excellent and is within close proximity to major establishments/shopping areas in the Ginza area. There is a convenient store (”Natural Lawson”) on the ground floor of the building. I booked the Standard Room with Queen Bed as I was worried that the Standard Room with Single Bed would be too cramped. I'm glad I made that decision. At about 20sq.m., the room is spacious and comfortable enough for one person but may be slightly cramped for a couple. Then again, hotel rooms in Japan tend to be small in general. Everything was clean and well maintained, and the amenities were sufficient. The lobby of the hotel is located on the 16/F of the building, and the guestrooms are located from 17/F up, so you get a very nice view of the Ginza area. I didn't try the breakfast on this trip, but I've heard nice things about that. Will definitely try that next time. Recommended.

[”1. **Unbeatable Location for Airport Travel**\nThe hotel offers direct limousine bus service to both Narita and Haneda Airports right from its doorstep, making airport transfers incredibly convenient – no need to lug heavy suitcases around. It's just a 3-minute walk to Tochomae subway station, with Shinjuku-Nishiguchi (West Exit) only 5-8 minutes away. Takashimaya, Odakyu Department Store, and Don Quijote are all within walking distance, making it super easy to shop for Sylvanian Families, Chanel, and cosmetics. Plus, there's a FamilyMart convenience store on the second floor, perfect for late-night essentials.”,”2. **Spacious Rooms, Especially for Tokyo**\nCompared to most compact Tokyo hotels, the rooms here are remarkably spacious, allowing you to easily open up a 28-inch suitcase. The newly renovated rooms come with multiple USB charging ports and modern amenities. High-floor rooms offer stunning views, perfect for overlooking Shinjuku's city nightscape in the evening. Soundproofing is excellent, completely blocking out street noise. The toiletries are high-quality, and the bathroom features a dry/wet separation design with ample supplies.”,”3. **Attentive Service and Comprehensive Facilities**\nThe front desk accepts Alipay, UnionPay, and WeChat Pay, making it very friendly for Chinese tourists. The 24-hour front desk offers free storage for large luggage, so you can shop for luxury goods without worry. The buffet breakfast offers a rich variety, including Japanese set meals, Western pastries, and fresh fruit. Executive floor guests also have access to an exclusive lounge with complimentary drinks and snacks all day. Shinjuku Central Park is right next to the hotel, perfect for a relaxing morning stroll.”]

Welcoming service at Front Office / Reception. I feel great to return back. I have stayed in this hotel for so many times and it’s always my top list to stay when i visit Tokyo. It’s my first time to have breakfast in Its Coffee Shop. The egg station is excellent and the chef handles the egg orders one by one with his patience. For the service side, I think the service team need to pay more attention as we stack our plates for a long time and the waiters didn’t “see” them even passed by quite few times. For the hotel room, I feel comfortable and clean.

It was 5:30 PM in Otemachi, Tokyo, and a massive halo, like a holy light, enveloped the area, reflecting the silhouette of the world's most beautiful CBD on the glass facade of Otemachi Tower. Perched atop this magnificent skyscraper, Aman Tokyo, which stunned the world a decade ago, remains an unparalleled benchmark for modern city hotels. |The soaring 30-meter high atrium, crafted with washi lanterns, wood textures, and concrete and rock, creates a 'dry landscape' garden in the urban clouds. |The view facing the Imperial Palace is arguably Tokyo's most beautiful skyline (it ruthlessly trumps the already impressive view from the neighboring Bulgari). |While the ambiance at Arva, the Italian restaurant on the other side of the lobby, is superb, the food wasn't to my taste. I'd recommend the Aman Cafe on the first floor, a glasshouse enveloped by the 'Otemachi Forest' oasis instead.

The staff were all friendly and polite, providing excellent service. The hotel's location is fantastic, just a 3-minute walk to the subway station. The breakfast spread was incredibly generous, offering both Western and Japanese options, including fish, fruits (even lychees!), and pastries. Having stayed at many hotels, I can honestly say this breakfast was the best. We booked a triple room, and it felt a bit small as the third bed took up a lot of space. The hotel's self-service laundry was good, though a bit pricey at 600 yen for washing and another 600 yen for drying. WeChat Pay and Alipay are accepted.

Had a fantastic stay! The hotel's location is excellent, right next to the Rinkai Line, making it incredibly convenient for getting around, especially to Disney. The room facilities were well-equipped, and the cleanliness was top-notch; there were no unpleasant odors. Breakfast is served on the first floor. We stayed for five nights and went at different times, but on three of those days, we encountered a queue. If you're in a hurry, you might want to factor in some extra time.

First of all, location here is amazing. Walking distance to Age3, Cloud Matcha, Tonkatsu, Udon, a super nice ramen shop opposite of the hotel. The food scene at surrounding this hotel is amazing. If you’re not into eating in restaurants, walk a few mins more to Matsuya or Mitsukochi Dept store, go to their B1 B2 and get the food there and head back to hotel to eat. Food will still be warm! Room is small, but the spaces are sufficient to open up luggages, and still move around. I would say the hotel set up the spaces amazingly, where you can put your items near the entrance instead of concentrated on the bed area, which I think it seriously helps a lot when you want to leave certain things that you doesn’t need for a few days there. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for its location, value to price, and also amazing staff services. Thank you!

They even provided toiletries. As it's a new hotel, there's no need for power adapters; USB and Type-C ports are directly available. The hotel itself is pretty standard, but its biggest advantage for exploring Tokyo's food and sights is its location. Our family trip to Tokyo was made much easier by this hotel—it was an excellent choice for us. They offer adjoining rooms and sofa beds, which gave us plenty of space and flexibility. The location is another big plus: set within a family-friendly park, it’s just a short walk to Tokyo Tower, great restaurants, and nearby subway stations. One thing to keep in mind: the elevators are split—floors 1–18 and 19–32 are served separately, and access to floors 18–32 requires a key card. So if you’re booking multiple room types, just double-check which floors they’re on to avoid any confusion.

Overall, I'd give it 4 stars, mainly for the location and the night view, though the hotel's facilities are a bit dated. 🚃 Transportation (very convenient) Take the Yurikamome Line to Daiba Station, and it's a 3-5 minute walk to the hotel. You even get sea views along the way. Downstairs, there's an Airport Limousine bus that goes directly to Haneda and Narita airports, which is super convenient when you're traveling with luggage. 📍 Location & Surroundings This deserves high praise – it's right in the heart of Odaiba. You can walk to Fuji TV, Joypolis (Sega Amusements), and the Gundam statue at DiverCity. Aqua City is right downstairs, so dining and shopping are a breeze. It’s perfect for families with kids or young travelers. 🌉 Night View (highly recommended) I booked a room on the Rainbow Bridge side, and the night view of Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Bay was truly amazing. Just sitting by the window and zoning out made it worth every penny. 🍳 Breakfast (average) The buffet offers a mix of Japanese and Western options, but nothing particularly memorable. The taste was just okay, and I felt it wasn't great value for money. 🏨 Facilities & Room (gripes) The decor is a bit old-fashioned. My biggest complaint is the hairdryer in the room – it's so old and weak; drying long hair was a real struggle. I hope the hotel replaces it soon. Other facilities were acceptable.

The service at the Imperial Hotel is truly exceptional. From the front desk concierge who escorts guests to their rooms and explains the facilities, the staff are incredibly friendly without being overly formal. It perfectly embodies the hospitality and service standards from Japan's economic boom era. Honestly, the photos don't do the hotel justice, and the facilities aren't the newest, but once you stay, you'll find it incredibly comfortable. The provided toiletries are also excellent. The toilet area, designed so you can sit and do your makeup, is a really thoughtful touch – the Imperial Hotel in Osaka has the same feature. It might look unassuming, but it's very thoughtful and provides a comfortable stay. I found the breakfast buffet to be just okay, not as amazing as some reviews suggest, but it's definitely superior to many hotels in the same price range. Personally, I prefer the Japanese set menu; it truly captures the essence of a Japanese breakfast.

Though small, this hotel has everything you need. Its Ginza location is incredibly convenient, perfect for shopping or quickly getting to Narita Airport via the expressway. What truly impressed me is how many features are packed into such a compact space. They have a coin-operated laundry and a large public bath. The room, which I'd estimate at about 20 square meters, even managed to fit bunk beds (1.2m/1.5m), making it very family-friendly. A minor point is that since the hotel is directly above the subway, you occasionally feel vibrations as trains pass. This led to a funny moment when an actual earthquake hit at night, and I initially thought it was just another train going by!

My overall experience with this stay was quite complex, feeling more like a test of service management capabilities. On the first day, the room cleaning quality was noticeably below expectations. The wash area, countertop details, and some amenities weren't clean enough, and the bedding wasn't tidied properly. From a housekeeping management perspective, this felt more like a failure in process execution rather than an isolated incident, and it definitely affected my first impression. However, after I raised the issue, the hotel's recovery actions were prompt. In the following days, the room cleaning was significantly more standardized, with noticeable improvements in detail. This indicates that the hotel is capable of good service, but the initial day's execution standards simply weren't met. In contrast, Trip.com's service experience during this incident left a deeper impression. The customer service proactively followed up, communicated efficiently, and handled the situation professionally. They were able to push for problem resolution from a customer experience perspective, demonstrating a mature platform service system. This level of after-sales responsiveness is quite high among current online travel platforms. Overall Rating: The hotel's hardware and positioning are fine, but there's room for improvement in service consistency, especially regarding the first-day delivery standards of housekeeping management. Trip.com's coordination and service performance in this incident, on the other hand, highlighted the professional value of their platform.

I’d wanted to stay at this hotel for a long time and loved the idea of a traditional-style hotel right in the heart of Tokyo. The staff were very friendly, and I was happy to get a room on a higher floor as I had requested. The room itself was very small and felt a bit outdated. For this price range, I expected a little more. However, the window — definitely the highlight of the room — offered an incredible view of the city. The onsen was quite small, but wow.
