Must-Visit Areas in Singapore 🏙️

Visiting Singapore is no small feat, given the sheer number of discoveries to be made and the variety of its neighbourhoods. From the almost futuristic waterfront to the traditional alleyways, every district offers a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.

To help you make the most of your trip, here is our selection of the neighbourhoods you simply cannot miss during your stay.

Marina Bay: A Symbol of the Futuristic City

Marina Bay

Marina Bay is the beating heart of modern Singapore and truly the symbol of its spectacular development in recent years.

This iconic district is home to the city's most popular and visited attractions: the famous Marina Bay Sands with its infinity pool perched 200 metres up (which is also a hotel), the glowing Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay, and the water-spouting Merlion, a true national symbol.

When evening falls, you can catch the magical free "Spectra" show, a light and water display that illuminates the bay at 8 pm and 9 pm every single day (yes, really!). Even the locals never tire of it, coming out for a stroll each evening to soak up the magical atmosphere in such an impressive setting. Marina Bay is also the perfect spot for a romantic walk along the Esplanade, with views of the glittering skyline.

📌 Trip.com tip: don't miss the stunning Apple store by Marina Bay; it's one of the most beautiful in the world and is literally ON the water!

Chinatown: A blend of tradition and Singaporean authenticity

Chinatown

The second must-visit neighbourhood: Chinatown! It is undoubtedly the most authentic and traditional district in Singapore.

Its narrow streets lined with colourful shophouses transport you back to the Asia of yesteryear. Don't miss the Sri Mariamman Hindu temple, the oldest in Singapore, and the Buddha Tooth Relic Buddhist temple with its magnificent architecture.

Food lovers will adore the Maxwell Food Centre, one of the city's best hawker centres (local food courts), where you can tuck into the famous chicken rice and other local specialities at bargain prices. Pagoda Street is packed with shops selling souvenirs, medicinal herbs, and traditional Chinese goods.

Little India: An explosion of colour and flavour

Little India

In the same vein, Little India is Singapore's vibrant and colourful Indian district. As soon as you arrive on Serangoon Road, you'll be enveloped by the scents of spices, the dazzling colours of saris, and Bollywood music.

The Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, dedicated to the goddess Kali, is simply breathtaking with its intricate carvings and impressive scale. Likewise, the Tekka Centre is the go-to hawker spot for savouring authentic Indian delicacies: fragrant biryani, crispy dosas, and masala tea.

The shops are bursting with colourful fabrics, gold jewellery, and handcrafted items, perfect for picking up souvenirs from your trip. The atmosphere is especially festive during Deepavali, the festival of lights, when the whole neighbourhood glows with twinkling fairy lights.

Kampong Glam: The trendy and artistic Arab quarter

Kampong Glam

Kampong Glam, a designated historic district since 1989, is one of Singapore's oldest neighbourhoods.

The majestic golden dome of the Sultan Mosque dominates the neighbourhood and stands as one of the city's most beautiful religious buildings. Likewise, Arab Street is an absolute must-visit, with its shops full of Persian rugs, shimmering fabrics, and oriental perfumes.

Finally, you absolutely must visit Haji Lane; it's THE most popular alley in the neighbourhood. This narrow street, with its facades covered in colourful street art, is home to trendy cafes, designer boutiques, and fashionable restaurants.

Sentosa: The island of leisure and beaches

Sentosa

Finally, Sentosa is Singapore's very own resort island, which you can reach by cable car, monorail, or footbridge.

This seaside destination is a fantastic mix of theme parks, sandy beaches, and luxurious resorts. Universal Studios Singapore is the star attraction, but you'll also find the S.E.A. Aquarium, Skyline Luge, Adventure Cove Waterpark, and a giant zip line to keep the adventure going.

The three main beaches (Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong) offer calm waters that are perfect for a family swim. It's the ideal spot to relax away from the city!

Orchard Road Singapore|3.66km from city centre
As our parents are celebrating their golden jubilee, we are upgraded to the premier rooms. They have decorated the rooms and did surprise us. The rooms are at level 12. Rooms are clean and with great views. The breakfast buffet had wide spread of options, there’s a lot of choose from. The only downside is that no ice cream was not provided on that day. Otherwise, I will give them a 10/10. Location is very convenient and connected the the main shopping streets of Orchard Road. It make our staycation a memorable one. We are so happy with the services provided by the front office and carousel restuarant that we decided to book the rooms again during Xmas time. Hope to see them soon.

Marina Bay Singapore|0.99km from city centre
I was a bit disappointed with the hotel during this second visit in June 2026. There was a noisy construction site outside the window, and drilling went on for several hours in one of the neighboring rooms due to renovations. I really wanted to rest after my journey but couldn't, neither in the room nor on the terrace. They couldn't find another room for me, but they tried to smooth things over, which is a plus for the hotel. This time, there were no welcome fruits, no second evening housekeeping service, and no replenishment of amenities, tea bags, or candies. Breakfast was good. The view was excellent; I watched the tree show from my room. Overall, considering the room price, I had hoped for better. My first visit was more enjoyable. It's best to go to the pool right when it opens at 6 AM – there are minimal people then. However, it's heavily chlorinated; even after washing, the smell wouldn't come out of my swimsuit. It was convenient that my room was in the same tower, so I could go to the pool in my bathrobe and slippers. There's free bottled water at the pool and a restaurant for snacks.

Riverside/ Clarke Quay Singapore|2.11km from city centre
This is a long-standing five-star hotel in Singapore. I stayed here for eight nights this time. It's my top choice for business and family trips to Singapore, offering great value for money. **Excellent Location** The location is superb. Right opposite the hotel exit is an MRT station. Although it's not a major line, it's convenient to get anywhere with a quick transfer. Within five or six minutes' walk, there's a large shopping center, The Great World, which has plenty of dining, shopping, and local specialty food options. The surrounding area is also a hub for tourist attractions, easily reachable by taxi or a few MRT stops. **Hotel Design** Given its five-star heritage and recent renovation, the rooms and hotel interior are very new and spacious. I was particularly impressed by the in-room coffee machine and water dispenser. Enjoying a rich cup of coffee while getting ready in the morning [smiley emoji] is a lovely touch. **Hotel Facilities** The swimming pool, gym, conference rooms, and restaurants are all well-equipped. **Service** I didn't get much chance to experience the service as I came back late and was out all day. My only minor complaint is the poor soundproofing. Perhaps it was because I was next to a door that seemed to lead nowhere, and the opening/closing sounds were loud. I could also hear cleaning staff making noise in the mornings. However, the front desk handled it very well, and they were much more careful afterward.

Marina Bay Singapore|1.47km from city centre
I stayed at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay during a solo business trip to Singapore, mainly because I had meetings near Marina Bay Sands. The hotel checked many boxes for me, especially its convenient location, Halal certified breakfast buffet and walking distance access to train stations. The reception area on Level 4 immediately left a strong impression. The interior is beautiful and filled with greenery, somewhat reminding me of Gardens by the Bay. It feels modern, relaxing and very photogenic / Instagrammable at the same time. I appreciated the convenience of online check in and check out. During check in, I was assisted by Yarik, who was extremely friendly and welcoming. He thoughtfully gave me a room facing Marina Bay Sands, which I truly appreciated. Thank you again, Yarik. The room itself was spacious for a solo traveller. Everything was very clean, and I really enjoyed the bathtub and toiletries provided. Another thing I loved was the coffee selection in the room. There were different coffee strengths available, from mild to very strong, which was perfect for someone like me who enjoys coffee a lot. I visited the hotel gym as well. It is not huge, but good enough for a basic workout. Since I am an Anytime Fitness (AF) member, I also walked to the nearby Suntec City AF branch, which was very convenient from the hotel. The location is excellent. Promenade MRT Station and Esplanade MRT Station are both within about five minutes’ walk, and the Merlion Park area is nearby too, making it easy for me to go jogging. Breakfast was fantastic with many choices. I especially loved the blended juice with ginger and cinnamon. On checkout day, although my late checkout request was initially declined by Lydia at the reception counter because the hotel was full, the team later managed to accommodate my request after I explained my situation. Thanks as well to Yi Quan for assisting during checkout. Overall, this hotel was amazing. I genuinely enjoyed the stay, especially the thoughtful service and the Halal certified breakfast buffet.

Bugis Singapore|1.94km from city centre
The hotel's location is excellent, with a subway station right outside the door and another line a few hundred meters away that goes to Chinatown. It's about an 800-meter walk to the Fort Canning tree tunnel (a popular photo spot), and from there you can continue on to the Old Hill Street Police Station (also known as the Rainbow Police Station), Clarke Quay, and the Merlion. The room size is a definite advantage compared to other hotels in the same price range; there's plenty of space to walk even with two large suitcases. The bathroom size is standard as well. The downside is that the bathroom fixtures are quite old, and the shower is difficult to use. However, I was aware of this beforehand, so I was prepared, and given the other advantages, it's acceptable. The bedding is good, and the sofa is quite comfortable. Among the toiletries, only the shampoo, shower gel, and toothbrush weren't great; everything else was fine. The room has a kettle and comes with tea and coffee packets. There's also a water dispenser in the hallway where you can get iced or room temperature water. The hotel breakfast is decent, on par with business hotels in China. However, the service is excellent; they diligently restock drinks and food even at the last minute, even if there are only a few people dining. There are washing machines and dryers on the fourth floor, each costing 5 SGD, and you can get change for coins at the front desk. The commercial machines work very well; the dryer gets clothes completely dry in 40 minutes. There are also ironing facilities in the room. Overall, I recommend this hotel. If you have a higher budget, you might look elsewhere, but if you're looking for great value for money at this price point, you should definitely consider it.

Harbourfront Singapore|3.39km from city centre
Pros: Very close to VivoCity, just across the road (though you'll need to cross a few traffic lights). Other than that, there's not much else to write home about. The biggest problem is the excessive noise! The sound of vehicles (likely motorcycles) on the road at night is incredibly 'refreshing' – I've never had trouble sleeping before, but I was woken up multiple times. If you're a light sleeper, definitely avoid this place. The bed is also very high, so it's not suitable for seniors with mobility issues. The design of the bathroom and shower doors is quite odd, and the soundproofing in the room is terrible. Flushing the toilet in the middle of the night creates a very loud noise, which is disruptive to anyone else in the room.

Sentosa Island Singapore|4.92km from city centre
I was impressed from start to finish with my Siloso Beach Resort experience. I arrived at Vivo City Harbourfront Station by train, suitcase in hand and was directed to the Sentosa Monorail on the top floor. There is a kiosk where I received my complimentary rail pass to Beach Ststion (last stop). Behind the train station is a free shuttle service which dropped me directly outside the Resort. Up to level 8 to complete my check-in which was conducted smoothly by the friendly desk team. They provided clear instructions for the ongoing use of monorail on the island and the free shuttle services around the island attractions. I received a cool upgrade and proceeded to my room which was clean and then refreshed each day. The location opposite the beach and a 7 minute walk to the train station which is surrounded by food outlets and stores to cater for your convenience. The team at Siloso Beach Resort enjoy their work and were always eager to assist with any enquiries, provision of umbrella or any guidance with onsite matters. The pool was fabulous with waterfall and slide for kids of all sizes. The place was quiet and well presented. I will be visiting again in the future.

Singapore Changi Airport Region Singapore|16.02km from city centre
We got here at 10pm just got off a flight and need to catch another flight early in the morning. It’s a massive resort, rooms are quite old. We can hear some kid running either upstairs of us or outside in the corridor at 2am, we can’t go back to sleep after this. Also the most scary part is that we found a metal pin on one of the beds, as my son said there was something weird, I’ve brought it to the front desk at checkout, and the front desk man said “****, I’ll talk to my manager “. So don’t think we’ll come back here again🙂. Gotta say the taxi service is pretty efficient as we needed to get to the airport at 4:30am.

This is an older hotel with basic facilities. It's comparable to a 3-star hotel in China, and the breakfast is about what you'd expect from a 3-4 star hotel there. Of course, the price is also around 300, but in Singapore dollars. If you're not traveling with family, you'd find much better standard room options and accommodations for the same price. Our family of four stayed here specifically for the two large beds. The hotel's location isn't far from the MRT station. Haji Lane and BOSS HOTEL (the starting point for the Legoland shuttle) are all within walking distance, and there are many bus routes nearby, making transportation very convenient. There are plenty of food and drink options downstairs, and there's an Indian minimart across the street from the hotel that's much cheaper than the 7-Eleven down the block. I misplaced something and when I called, they immediately knew which room I was in and what I had lost, which shows excellent coordination between the front desk and housekeeping. Thumbs up for that!

We had a very enjoyable family stay at Village Hotel Sentosa. The hotel is very family-friendly, with a lively atmosphere and facilities that kept both adults and children happy. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and practical for a short family getaway, and the overall design of the hotel felt bright and welcoming. One of the biggest highlights was the location. It was very convenient for exploring Sentosa, with easy access to attractions, dining options, and transport. This made travelling around with children much less tiring and stressful. The pool area was also a real plus for families, as the kids had a great time and it added to the holiday feel. The staff were generally helpful and pleasant, which made the stay smoother. Overall, Village Hotel Sentosa is a good choice for families looking for a fun, convenient, and comfortable staycation spot. We would be happy to return again.

First time staying at Pan Pacific 3D2N stay was pleasant. As we book connecting room , and have to wait a bit longer for our other room to be ready the reception display their best professionalism to accommodate. The room was spacious, mini fridge filled with drinks and chocolate reserve for guests for quick snack. Like the motorized curtains. The amenities like coffee machine come in handy for a good coffee. Our high floor panoramic city view room, we did manage to catch a glimpse of the Singapore flyer, marina bay sands from outside our room which is a breath taking view. Hope we get to book marina view next time.The pool was big and my kids enjoy relaxing and swimming. The foot reflexology treatment was relaxing and comforting. Overall I'm delighted with my staycation from the moment we arrive, we were welcome and greeted by the bell attendant, front reception, even check out was smooth and till our departure the hotel staff hospitality has treated us well. F We had a pleasant 1-night family stay at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering, Singapore. The hotel made a strong first impression with its beautiful greenery, distinctive architecture and calm resort-like atmosphere despite being located right in the city. For families, the location is a major advantage. It is convenient, central and close to Chinatown, Clarke Quay and public transport, which made it easy for us to move around without feeling rushed. The hotel environment felt safe, clean and well maintained, which is always important when staying with children. The room was comfortable for a short stay, with good amenities and a relaxing ambience. The greenery around the hotel gave it a refreshing feel, and the pool area was a highlight for the family. It offered a nice space to unwind after a day out, and the overall setting felt more like a city retreat than a typical business hotel. Service was generally warm and professional. The staff were courteous and helpful, and check-in and check-out were smooth. For a 1-night stay, the experience was easy and fuss-free. Overall, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering is a good choice for a short family staycation or city stay in Singapore. It combines convenience, comfort and a unique garden-hotel concept. It was alright. The hotel is very quiet, even rooms in the hallway. I checked and the walls are solid, not like the hollow, thin walls you often find in Singapore. I finally got some good sleep in Singapore for a few days 😭. Even with a massive downpour outside, I couldn't hear a thing. Breakfast was just okay, maybe not even worth it. You're better off eating at the hawker center across the street, or you can go through the door next to the hotel's breakfast restaurant directly into a mall and eat at Ya Kun.

Day Trips from Singapore 🚢

Staying in Singapore for a few days and looking to explore further afield? You're in luck – the city-state is perfectly positioned for some international getaways!

From Singapore, Trip.com recommends two excursions in particular:

Bintan, Indonesia: Paradise beaches and relaxation

Bintan Island is an idyllic tropical getaway just a stone's throw from Singapore.

  • Travel time: 50 minutes by ferry from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal
  • Transport: regular ferries (frequent departures, booking recommended)
  • Must-sees: pristine white-sand beaches, luxurious resorts with spas, world-class golf courses, traditional temples, and mangrove forests. Perfect for a lazy day or a relaxing weekend away from the urban hustle and bustle.

Johor Bahru, Malaysia: Shopping and Malay culture

Johor Bahru, a Malaysian border city, offers a unique cultural experience and great value for money.

  • Travel time: 45 minutes to 1 hour from Singapore city centre
  • Transport: bus via the Woodlands Causeway checkpoint or train
  • Must-sees: Legoland Malaysia (perfect for families), giant shopping malls (prices are much lower than in Singapore), authentic Malaysian street food, the Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque with its panoramic views, and colonial heritage. Don't forget your passport to cross the border!

Singapore, the Gastronomic Capital of Southeast Asia 🍜

Singapore, the gastronomic capital of Southeast Asia

When you want to fully discover Singapore, tasting its local cuisine is a must! The city-state is a true gastronomic capital where Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Western influences blend together.

Trip.com has hand-picked the must-try local specialities for you:

  • Hainanese Chicken Rice: THE national dish of Singapore, featuring tender poached chicken served with fragrant rice and sauces;
  • Laksa: a spicy noodle soup with coconut milk, prawns, and curry paste;
  • Chilli Crab: crab in a sweet tomato-chilli sauce, best enjoyed with fried buns;
  • Satay: marinated meat skewers grilled over a barbecue, served with a delicious peanut sauce;
  • Char Kway Teow: wok-fried rice noodles with eggs, seafood, and soy sauce;
  • Roti Prata: a crispy Indian flatbread served with curry.

Hawker centres: temples of street food

Hawker centres are the culinary soul of Singapore and an unmissable experience. These open-air food courts bring together dozens of stalls offering authentic dishes at unbeatable prices (£2.50–£5 per meal). The friendly atmosphere, communal tables, and diversity of flavours make them truly unique spots. The "chope" culture (reserving your table with a packet of tissues) is a fun local practice.

The best hawker centres:

  • Maxwell Food Centre (Chinatown): famous for its Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice
  • Lau Pa Sat (Financial District): Victorian architecture and a buzzing night-time atmosphere
  • Tekka Centre (Little India): authentic Indian specialities
  • Old Airport Road Food Centre: a local favourite with over 100 stalls

🥇Our golden rule: follow the queues where the locals are – it's a guaranteed sign of quality!

Singapore awaits you with its futuristic skyscrapers, exceptional cuisine, and unique experiences! Whether you're drawn to Marina Bay, authentic cultural districts, theme parks, or hawker food, Singapore is just waiting for you!
