Must-Visit Areas in Singapore 🏙️

Visiting Singapore is no small feat, given the sheer number of discoveries to be made and the variety of its neighbourhoods. From the almost futuristic waterfront to the traditional alleyways, every district offers a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.

To help you make the most of your trip, here is our selection of the neighbourhoods you simply cannot miss during your stay.

Marina Bay: A Symbol of the Futuristic City

Marina Bay

Marina Bay is the beating heart of modern Singapore and truly the symbol of its spectacular development in recent years.

This iconic district is home to the city's most popular and visited attractions: the famous Marina Bay Sands with its infinity pool perched 200 metres up (which is also a hotel), the glowing Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay, and the water-spouting Merlion, a true national symbol.

When evening falls, you can catch the magical free "Spectra" show, a light and water display that illuminates the bay at 8 pm and 9 pm every single day (yes, really!). Even the locals never tire of it, coming out for a stroll each evening to soak up the magical atmosphere in such an impressive setting. Marina Bay is also the perfect spot for a romantic walk along the Esplanade, with views of the glittering skyline.

📌 Trip.com tip: don't miss the stunning Apple store by Marina Bay; it's one of the most beautiful in the world and is literally ON the water!

Chinatown: A blend of tradition and Singaporean authenticity

Chinatown

The second must-visit neighbourhood: Chinatown! It is undoubtedly the most authentic and traditional district in Singapore.

Its narrow streets lined with colourful shophouses transport you back to the Asia of yesteryear. Don't miss the Sri Mariamman Hindu temple, the oldest in Singapore, and the Buddha Tooth Relic Buddhist temple with its magnificent architecture.

Food lovers will adore the Maxwell Food Centre, one of the city's best hawker centres (local food courts), where you can tuck into the famous chicken rice and other local specialities at bargain prices. Pagoda Street is packed with shops selling souvenirs, medicinal herbs, and traditional Chinese goods.

Little India: An explosion of colour and flavour

Little India

In the same vein, Little India is Singapore's vibrant and colourful Indian district. As soon as you arrive on Serangoon Road, you'll be enveloped by the scents of spices, the dazzling colours of saris, and Bollywood music.

The Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, dedicated to the goddess Kali, is simply breathtaking with its intricate carvings and impressive scale. Likewise, the Tekka Centre is the go-to hawker spot for savouring authentic Indian delicacies: fragrant biryani, crispy dosas, and masala tea.

The shops are bursting with colourful fabrics, gold jewellery, and handcrafted items, perfect for picking up souvenirs from your trip. The atmosphere is especially festive during Deepavali, the festival of lights, when the whole neighbourhood glows with twinkling fairy lights.

Kampong Glam: The trendy and artistic Arab quarter

Kampong Glam

Kampong Glam, a designated historic district since 1989, is one of Singapore's oldest neighbourhoods.

The majestic golden dome of the Sultan Mosque dominates the neighbourhood and stands as one of the city's most beautiful religious buildings. Likewise, Arab Street is an absolute must-visit, with its shops full of Persian rugs, shimmering fabrics, and oriental perfumes.

Finally, you absolutely must visit Haji Lane; it's THE most popular alley in the neighbourhood. This narrow street, with its facades covered in colourful street art, is home to trendy cafes, designer boutiques, and fashionable restaurants.

Sentosa: The island of leisure and beaches

Sentosa

Finally, Sentosa is Singapore's very own resort island, which you can reach by cable car, monorail, or footbridge.

This seaside destination is a fantastic mix of theme parks, sandy beaches, and luxurious resorts. Universal Studios Singapore is the star attraction, but you'll also find the S.E.A. Aquarium, Skyline Luge, Adventure Cove Waterpark, and a giant zip line to keep the adventure going.

The three main beaches (Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong) offer calm waters that are perfect for a family swim. It's the ideal spot to relax away from the city!

Orchard Road Singapore|3.66km from city centre
The location is excellent, right on Orchard Road. There's a bus stop directly outside, and the MRT is less than a 5-minute walk away. It's surrounded by large shopping malls, with ION diagonally opposite and Watsons right across the street, where you can buy medicine. Ya Kun Kaya Toast, a Singaporean breakfast favorite, is just a few steps from the MRT exit. It's super convenient to get to all the major attractions, and there's even an affordable supermarket opposite. The hotel facilities are great, it's very clean, and the environment is five-star, plus it offers excellent value for money. Prices were very friendly during the off-peak season! The rooms are much more spacious than other hotels. The service is very attentive, and you can store your luggage. I'll definitely stay here again next time, I'm extremely satisfied.

The hotel's location is perfect! It's within a 10-minute walk to two light shows, a shopping mall, and the MRT station. Our room had a stunning view of Gardens by the Bay, and from the rooftop observation deck and infinity pool, you get amazing 360-degree panoramic views day and night. The room itself was spacious and spotless, and the bathroom and toilet were very comfortable. The staff were incredibly friendly too. Everything was just excellent!

The hotel was renovated and well managed. We come here every year as the hotel gives us a comfortable stay. Breakfast at the lobby has a variety of food, and the club lounge gives us a great view and peaceful moments. Our staff Nursha at the club lounge always remembers us and greet us with smile and kindness.

Marina Bay Singapore|1.78km from city centre
The hotel room's bedding had serious hygiene issues, which directly harmed my health and resulted in an extremely poor stay. On the day I checked in, I noticed a distinct musty, damp smell and a slightly moist feel on the sheets, duvet cover, and pillowcases. They didn't feel properly aired out, dry, or clean. The next morning, before heading out, I placed the 'change bedding' sign on the bed and left a note explaining the situation. By then, I already had some localized itching and a rash, but I didn't realize it was due to the bedding. I thought it was just heat rash because of the warm weather. When I returned to the room the next day, the smell on the bedding had lessened but was still present. Trusting the hotel, I didn't think much of it. However, on the third day, my symptoms worsened significantly, with intense itching. Loratadine didn't help, severely impacting my travel plans and health. After returning home, I was diagnosed with hives at the hospital, an allergic reaction directly caused by contact with moldy, damp, and unhygienic hotel bedding, and by inhaling mold spores. As a traveler, I chose your hotel for its brand reputation for hygiene and service. However, the room's bedding was not thoroughly cleaned, dried, or sanitized, showing clear hygiene negligence and safety risks. This completely violates basic hotel hygiene standards. Damp and moldy bedding not only created a terrible experience but also directly harmed my health, leaving me extremely dissatisfied with this stay.

Marina Bay Singapore|1.47km from city centre
I stayed at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay during a solo business trip to Singapore, mainly because I had meetings near Marina Bay Sands. The hotel checked many boxes for me, especially its convenient location, Halal certified breakfast buffet and walking distance access to train stations. The reception area on Level 4 immediately left a strong impression. The interior is beautiful and filled with greenery, somewhat reminding me of Gardens by the Bay. It feels modern, relaxing and very photogenic / Instagrammable at the same time. I appreciated the convenience of online check in and check out. During check in, I was assisted by Yarik, who was extremely friendly and welcoming. He thoughtfully gave me a room facing Marina Bay Sands, which I truly appreciated. Thank you again, Yarik. The room itself was spacious for a solo traveller. Everything was very clean, and I really enjoyed the bathtub and toiletries provided. Another thing I loved was the coffee selection in the room. There were different coffee strengths available, from mild to very strong, which was perfect for someone like me who enjoys coffee a lot. I visited the hotel gym as well. It is not huge, but good enough for a basic workout. Since I am an Anytime Fitness (AF) member, I also walked to the nearby Suntec City AF branch, which was very convenient from the hotel. The location is excellent. Promenade MRT Station and Esplanade MRT Station are both within about five minutes’ walk, and the Merlion Park area is nearby too, making it easy for me to go jogging. Breakfast was fantastic with many choices. I especially loved the blended juice with ginger and cinnamon. On checkout day, although my late checkout request was initially declined by Lydia at the reception counter because the hotel was full, the team later managed to accommodate my request after I explained my situation. Thanks as well to Yi Quan for assisting during checkout. Overall, this hotel was amazing. I genuinely enjoyed the stay, especially the thoughtful service and the Halal certified breakfast buffet.

I stayed at Hotel Royal Queen for two nights during my three-day trip to Singapore, and it was a great experience! The room size was a bit bigger than other hotels in the same price range. The most important thing was the front desk staff, who were incredibly friendly and enthusiastic about helping! They spoke both English and Chinese. I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit Singapore 🤭

Arrived at the hotel around 2 or 3 AM, and the front desk was still staffed. Overall, it's pretty good. The location is excellent; I could walk to many places, and public transport like buses and the subway are also very convenient nearby. There's a Ya Kun Kaya Toast downstairs, which is delicious. My only comment is that they only do light cleaning once every three days, so the trash can gets pretty full, but the cleaning staff themselves were very nice and polite.

The hotel is conveniently located right by the Singapore River. My kids absolutely loved the split-level design of the room. While the room isn't huge, the three-part bathroom setup was incredibly practical, allowing everyone to use it at different times. The front desk service was quite good, definitely not as bad as some previous reviews suggested.

Harbourfront Singapore|3.39km from city centre
Travelodge Harbourfront is a practical option for travelers who value location and affordability. The room is admittedly quite small, but it works well for business stays or trips where you do not plan to spend much time indoors. The shower had strong water pressure, which was a nice plus, and the bed was comfortable enough for a good rest after a long day out. Breakfast could definitely be improved. The selection felt limited and leaned heavily toward less healthy processed items such as sausages. On one occasion, the fried chicken was also undercooked, which was disappointing. Overall, if you need convenient access to Sentosa and are traveling on a budget, this is still a good and convenient place to stay.

Great ambience and beautiful view. So nature and clean environment. Worth to stay and nearby to attractions and beach clubs in Sentosa. Shuttle service also provided to go along the beaches ; Pahlawan beach, Tanjong Beach and Siloso Beach which is also convenient to take bus, train and taxi at nearby station. Easy access transportation in and out from Sentosa Island. Love the seaview and garden view from the rooftop and also just a walking distance to Beach Station in less than 10mins from the resort. This is my 2nd time staycation here and highly recommend for a short gateway and healing by nature in Sentosa Island.

PARKROYAL on Beach Road Delivers on Every Level! My family and I recently stayed at PARKROYAL on Beach Road, and I can't say enough good things about this beautifully refreshed hotel. From the moment I stepped in, I was welcomed with warm smiles and genuine hospitality that set the tone for a fantastic stay. Stunning Renovated Pool: The newly renovated outdoor pool is truly a highlight — stylish, spacious, and perfect for a relaxing swim with a view of the city skyline. Whether you’re doing laps or lounging poolside with a drink, it feels like an urban oasis. Excellent Gym Facilities: Fitness enthusiasts will love the gym here. It's well-equipped, modern, and clean — ideal for maintaining your routine while traveling. There's a good mix of cardio machines, weights, and space for stretching or yoga. Prime Location: The location is unbeatable. Just a short walk to Bugis, Kampong Glam, and Haji Lane, with plenty of dining and shopping options nearby. Plus, it's super convenient to get around Singapore with MRT stations close by. Outstanding Staff: What truly sets PARKROYAL on Beach Road apart is the professionalism and friendliness of the staff. Every interaction — from check-in to housekeeping — was met with attentiveness and a genuine desire to make my stay enjoyable. You can tell they take pride in their service.

Riverside/ Clarke Quay Singapore|1.87km from city centre
We could not use the machine for self check-in because their system could not find our booking on trip.com, so a staff member had to manually check in for us. Excellent facilities - they provided lots of trolleys for luggages near the front door/reception area, which I think were quite thoughtful. Our kids used the playground a lot. Would love to use the swimming pool but our room (Studio Queen and Single) was quite small (especially the bathoom) to hang our swim clothes to dry. Coat hangers were provided in the room which could be used to hang swimclothes on to airdry, but with the humidity in Singapore, it would take about 2 days to completely dry. In the middle of our stay, we found a dead cockroach on the bed (first photo) while clearing stuff to prep the room for daily room service/cleaning. We left it there for the cleaner to handle it, but when we came back at night, the dead cockroach was still in the room (and moved to a different spot this time - second photo), so we cleaned it ourselves. Not that we are nitpicking, but since the room was small, we had to organise our things around every nook and cranny of the room, and I found the wall under the table near the floor quite dirty.

The room was quite spacious. Our Executive King room had a balcony with a perfect view of the Marina Bay Sands and the bay. The king bed plus the sofa bed was more than enough for three adults. Breakfast was quite good with a wide selection, but make sure to go early (after 8:30 AM, there's usually a queue). This hotel is located within Sentosa, and the spacious room with a small courtyard was a real highlight. You can easily stroll around Sentosa and the beach anytime. Vivocity, with its shops and restaurants, is just a 5-minute walk away. I do have one small suggestion: the front desk staff could be a bit more welcoming and friendly. This hotel is a popular spot with a fantastic location. You can easily walk to Clarke Quay for Jumbo Seafood's chili crab, and Chinatown is right across the street, making it super convenient for Ya Kun Kaya Toast and Mr. Coconut. Plus, Song Fa Bak Kut Teh is practically on your doorstep – I ate there two days in a row! The downsides were seeing a couple of small spiders in the room, but I guess that's to be expected with all the greenery. The hotel breakfast wasn't great either; the only thing really edible was the noodle soup. Also, the pool seemed a bit dirty, as three of us had red, itchy eyes after swimming the next day. On the bright side, the service was excellent. The staff were very helpful with luggage when we took taxis and even opened the car doors for us.

It was very convenient as it was located close to Orchard station, it was easy to access anywhere. we stay in 23 floors, the room felt a bit small, it was cleverly designed for its size. FAQ – Things to Do in Singapore ❓

  • What can you do in Singapore in one day?
