I can recommend this place. I arrived early in the morning and they let me leave my luggage as well as check in and use the bed. They also sent many instructions with directions. Place is very clean and bed was comfy with lights, fan and a power outlet. Free landry (as of now) with space to dry. First time I received a clean towel without asking in this country. Bathroom has toiletries (soap, toilet paper, shampoo, shower gel, even conditioner). It is possible to meet people in the common area. However, you will need to boil your own drinking water here. They have three kettles, though. Kitchen otherwise only has a sink and a microwave. Biggest downside is that there is only one bathroom for 14 males. People had to wait a lot. And, of course, the cultural downside that people will likely smoke in their beds, spit around, be noisy and that the male bathroom will have urine splashed around as always. I wish there was a table in the common area, too. If you want some local food, make sure to cross the big road and walk into road on the other side. Lots of local eateries on the right side.

Excellent location. Take the airport bus to Chunxi Road and then take the Metro from Chunxi Rd Station to just one stop away Xinnamen Station. Make sure you come out at the right exit. I arrived on my own to Inner Mongolia and left with a heart full of experiences, adventures and good friends all happy to discover with an open mind. Beds are comfortable and daily cleaning is in place, location is super whether coming from the train station or airport you can reach the hostel in less than 15-20 minutes by metro. The atmosphere in the hostel is precious and this is all in grand part due to Hang Gai & fam ‘s warm welcome. I will always remember the immense grasslands and the valuable discussions. I am touched and it was hard to leave but I am sure I will be right back if ever in Hohhot again.

I stayed at the Ray of Sunshine Youth Hostel for five days. The owner was very nice, the service was attentive and thoughtful, the hostel was clean and tidy, the rooms were well-ventilated and odor-free, the sheets, quilt covers and pillowcases were changed after each guest, and there was 24-hour hot water. It's located right in Hailiang Square, very convenient for buses and subways, and just a short walk away. Next time I go to Hohhot, I'll definitely stay at the Ray of Sunshine Youth Hostel again.
