The Parkgate Hotel

Excellent hotel in all aspects. Great location, very clean and comfortable bed. Lovely staff

This is a great hotel and certainly one I would visit again, I was disappointed with the view from my room which was of an internal courtyard if that had been made clear I would have amended my booking. Staff were friendly but I felt they didn’t promote the best of the hotel, nobody made any effort to upsell an evening meal etc.

Room was surprisingly average. Cords hanging out of the tv. View of pipes. Also, got “upgraded” to a deluxe room and ended up in a disability suite. Obviously glad rooms like this exist for guests with different mobility needs to myself but…as someone who is 6’2, having a sink at my knees didn’t feel like an upgrade.

It was a pleasant stay. Fortunately they were able to allow me to check in early and were able to hold my luggage during my stay.

Excellent things: Beautifully designed spaces Spotlessly clean, felt like the first person to stay there. Excellent location for nightlife in Cardiff, few mins walk away, brilliant. Bad things Freezing cold room, couldn’t heat up Noisy air conditioning, couldn’t turn off - like trying to sleep with a hairdryer going all night Poor mattresses. They were very firm, but not in a new mattress supportive way, the mattresses felt old. Very disappointing for a high end hotel. This hotel looks the part, but unfortunately the level of service provided is not consistent with what you would expect with a high end hotel. When I arrived, the entrance has 2 steep banks of stairs and a platform lift. I had a suitcase and looked around. No nice young man to help me with my case. The lift had a heavy door, hard to do with a suitcase and bad back. I managed to get in. Pressed the up button, nothing happened, 5 mins of fiddling worked it out, but no one came to help. Very rude waitress at breakfast told me off for not being seated by matre de, but there was no one there. She told her manager in such a loud voice that everyone could hear - that lady, she pointed, is just helping herself to food and shouldn’t be here! I had paid for breakfast, there was no member of staff to check which room I was in and the buffet was about to end! Shockingly terrible customer service experience.

Lovely hotel in the centre of Cardiff. Great shower and bathrobes a nice touch. Really comfortable bed and nice bedding. All staff very friendly. A couple of negatives - stain on the sofa in our room. Slightly annoying that the spa isn't included for hotel guests and this isn't clear on booking. There was an email just before arrival to tell us this, would have been good to know when booking as the spa was fully booked on the day of arrival if we had wanted to go.
