Since it is a motel at reasonable prices, I am surprised for comfort, cleaning and care of the rooms. Large and free parking. Educated and friendly staff. Finally USB takes on the comforts to load the smartphone. In a strategic position, I recommend it at 100 percent
Wanderstay Houston Hostel

First off, the place was a great place to stay, once you ran the gauntlet of getting in. To my discredit, I will admit this is the first time I've stayed in a Hostel in the United States. I stayed in several in Spain a few years ago without a hitch. Biggest problem was contacting a living breathing person by phone, but that is par for the course these days, unfortunately. Secondly, there was (for me) a confusing exchange of e-mails that resulted in the contention that they did not have a picture ID on me. I know I had sent this earlier and have the e-mail to prove it. When I sent my ID, I had copied and pasted it in a ”reply” e-mail back to them. Several hours after that when I was freezing in my car outside their facility, I learned they they did not have the ID. So, I sent another picture ID using a new e-mail directly to them rather than simply replying to an older one. Let that be a lesson. Always send new e-mail with any information they need, rather than simply sending it in a ”reply” e-mail that they had sent to you earlier. It may be some e-mail glitch. The only other glitch was after getting inside, I was exhausted and ready to go to bed for some much needed rest. Unfortunately, the ”combination” to the door lock would not open the door to my room. I tried to call them (there were no employees there), but again, the recorded message said to send them an e-mail. Consequently, Multiple e-mails sent back and forth over an extended time when a simple phone call could have resolved the issue in 30 seconds. Long story short, they had given me the incorrect code to my room, but it took multiple e-mails to determine this. Finally, once in the room, I will say the bed was clean and very comfortable. I slept like a bear in hibernation. The room had a real home feel to it, unlike the sterile perfection of a high end motel that I usually stay in. The entire place was also very quiet. I don't know how many other people were there, but there was no wait time the next morning when i took a shower. Shower was also very clean. When I was ready to leave, I hung around a while in the downstairs ”living room/lobby” area expecting there would be an employee there at check out as there always is when staying at a motel, but there was nobody. So, after a short while, I left. I used this place to stay out of curiosity as I usually stay at motels when I come to Houston. But, motels are expensive. The reality is, I never watch TV in a motel. I seldom eat the breakfast at motels or use their in room telephones, pools or workout gyms. When I travel, the only thing I am looking for when it's time to call it a day, is a safe comfortable place to lay myself down to sleep and use the bathroom,,,nothing more. That was the promise of staying in a Hostel, and on that promise, they delivered.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at a youth hostel that truly stood out for its exceptional qualities. Nestled in a residential area, its location was incredibly convenient, offering a tranquil retreat just a bike ride away from the city center—less than 10 minutes to be exact. This made for peaceful nights, ensuring a restful sleep in a safe environment. The hostel is run by a delightful couple whose hospitality knew no bounds. They were not only eager to assist with any issues that arose but also went above and beyond by providing bicycles. This thoughtful touch significantly enhanced my mobility around Houston, allowing me to reach various destinations swiftly. What set this hostel apart was the attention to detail and the array of complimentary amenities, including cookies, milk, cereal, coffee, and tea. The cleanliness and smart technology throughout the house contributed to a seamless stay, making it the best hostel experience I've ever had. The bathroom towels folded into swan shapes were a testament to the owners' dedication to detail, adding a touch of elegance and care. The warmth of the place was akin to being at home, with the owners always ready for a chat, eager to answer questions, and share their stories and experiences. A highlight for me was the world map on the living room wall, where guests could pin their home countries—a fun and interactive way to connect with fellow travelers. In summary, this hostel was more than just a place to stay; it felt like a home, or perhaps more accurately, a homestay. It's undoubtedly the best hostel I've ever stayed in globally, blending the comfort of a home with the adventurous spirit of a hostel.

I must say first thing, the room was clean. The staff was very friendly. We checked in after 8 pm and there was only one person working. She was getting it done, but it really is unfair to have her working by herself. That said, the placed smelled lived in, like old cooking oil. My door had a big gap between it and the hallway. The walls were thin. I could hear everyone's conversation at 3 in the morning.... my neighbors were night owls. The kitchenette had 2 burners, a dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, and small sink. There weren't any outlets near the bed to plug in my chargers. There is definitely an outlet shortage. I had to use the one in the bathroom. There was one near the couch. I counted 2 available. Most were occupied by the lights of the nightstand. The nightstands did not have an outlet, which I was expecting. The bathroom sink would not drain. The roaches were the deal breaker. I just couldn't. We were supposed to stay 2 weeks, I only lasted 1 night. It is a good deal for the price if you are on a budget. It was roughly $60/ night. I was in town to help with the water crisis and didn't book this hotel. My teammate was suspicious based on the photos on line, but we thought we would check it out regardless.

Downtown Houston
I lived very comfortably, the front desk service was good, the enthusiasm, the check-in was quick, and the early check-in also agreed that there was no extra money. The parking lot is large and there is no charge at the moment. I often have family travel on weekends, the room is big enough, and 3-4 people live. Chinese people go to Gallaria for shopping, convenient, and can eat Chinese food. Not bad.
