I mean, the place is alright. Nice design on the houses (we stayed in house no. 1) and the staff are friendly and attentive. There’s a lack of amenities here so it’s more like sharing a house rather than being at a resort/hotel – you won’t find a gym or swimming pool, etc. not much to do in the area besides eat and walk around. 1-2 nights is enough. The room rate itself isn’t terrible but the restaurant on site is VERY expensive and they will charge you for absolutely everything that they can including extra breakfast items that you’ll surely need because the free breakfast is a tiny amount of food. They’ll also charge you for late checkout, which they will ask for a full room rate for with a 30% discount even if you only want to check out 1 hour later… we found that to be a bit cheeky. Try the unique cheese fondue place in the area. Interesting and great in the cold weather.

The hotel architecture is amazing. I unexpectedly met the hotel architect Shigeru Ban. He is a perfect Pritzker master. I also met a group of fans of the master. A handsome couple from Finland, a family of three architects from the United States, and a design enthusiast from Singapore 😄😄 The handsome classical guy at the hotel reception made me unable to take my eyes off him. He spoke English so well that I couldn't believe he was Japanese. It was a pity that he took a break on the weekend and didn't meet him again The food was so delicious that it reminded me of the song "In the little garden, wow wow me" The wine selection was rich and the sommelier was professional and awesome In short, it was a great trip

It's just a show, suitable for being taken advantage of The hotel design is at the level of domestic light luxury B&B There are basically no facilities and services The price is not proportional to the services provided. Example: Taking a taxi from Karuizawa Station to the hotel costs 3,300 yen It's really ridiculous to ask the hotel to call a taxi for you for 5,000 yen.

The staff are friendly, courteous and attentive, and the hotel food for breakfast and dinner is also very good. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the hotel to the scenic spot, which is quite convenient. Whether it's the hotel room, the dining environment or the common area... I'm quite satisfied with it, giving me comfort and tranquility.

There is no mineral water and kettle in the room, no toothpaste, the food and wine are good👍, the details are very particular, and the aesthetics are good👍.

Very Good

Overall very good, good service! The hotel is located halfway up the mountain, with a very beautiful design and environment. My only regret is that when I booked a room with Ctrip, I marked a room with two beds. When I arrived, I found out that it was a double bed, so I had to share the same bed with my friends.

There are 3 buildings in the hotel. We stayed in Building 3, which is very new. The interior is made of very good-quality wood and the exterior is high-end black. We experienced the minimalist beauty of the Japanese-style wooden house in the forest and marveled at every detail. Craftsmanship and sophistication. Breakfast is in Building 1. It is delicious and the service is very warm and attentive. There are many public spaces in the hotel. We mainly read and drink tea in the three public spaces on the 2nd floor of Building 3. During the day, you can walk in the forest with your family, and you can go to Hoshino Hot Spring in 20 minutes. It’s so cheap, only 50 RMB. I met a passerby playing the piano and a child also played a song. It was a wonderful experience. There are many restaurants and cafes near Hoshino Onsen, which is very comfortable. There are far more people traveling with dogs in Karuizawa than with children. The dogs are very delicate and cute, and the slow pace of life is very different.

Shishi-Iwa House is a beautifully designed retreat that perfectly blends architecture with nature. The atmosphere is incredibly peaceful, making it an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle. Every detail of the design feels intentional, creating a truly relaxing and inspiring stay. Highly recommended for those seeking tranquility and aesthetic beauty!

We couldn’t fault this stay. The buildings are some of the most incredible architecture you will ever see. The eye for detail from the staff was next level. Anything we asked, was no trouble at all. Their recommendations were perfect. The meal we had was exceptional (coming from a chef), and so were the sake pairings…again, and the service. Couldn’t recommend highly enough. The genuine care the staff had for us, was something we have rarely experienced.

With stunning architecture by Shigeru Ban (who designed House 1 and 2), this stylish small hotel has interesting spaces filled with contemporary art. My family took 3 rooms in Villa A of House 2 which gave us a private kitchenette and small seating area, with access to a beautiful communal room and library. It's a couple of minutes' walk to House 1 with the gorgeous restaurant that merges the indoor with outdoor. The restaurant offers a good breakfast and a la carte lunches/dinners. We chose the omakase dinner one evening and it was creative and excellent. The staff members are fantastic - friendly and helpful, especially the knowledgeable and wonderful General Manager Ogihara-san who went out of his way to personally take us to the oldest ramen restaurant in Karuizawa and the volcano park. We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel recently added House 3 which is also stunning. There's quite a bit to do in the area - hikes, waterfall, onsen etc., so we are already planning our next trip. A great escape in the summer from the blazing heat of Tokyo, and I hear it's amazing in the snowy winter too.
