"The location is great, very lively around, with good restaurants, street food stalls, and large shopping malls all nearby. The service was excellent, polite and enthusiastic. Although the room wasn't big, it was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was particularly good, with many choices and very tasty. However, it was extremely crowded during meal times. Perhaps because the hotel is in a bustling area with many residents and mosques nearby, I was woken up at 4 AM by a deafening chorus (I assume) of chanting. Loud, high-pitched male voices, amplified by numerous loudspeakers, resonated through the sky non-stop."

"Before I begin the review, let me say that the front desk staff of the hotel have been extremely understanding and accomodating. They ensured most of my complaints were addressed. So this review isn't a reflection on them. They graciously changed my room three times due to the following issues I faced. But having said that, the hotel itself is a disaster. The walls were essentially thin cardboard and you could hear everything from the adjacent rooms - from people coughing their lungs out, sneezing, talking to ********** - literally everything. In the bathroom you hear some continuously banging noise coming from somewhere as if there is construction going on - maybe it's from the plumbing. You surely need ear plugs if you decide to get a good night's rest. There were mosquitos in the room I was given on the first night. There was also no hot water in the bathroom at night. It was at best luke-warm. The safe was not working and the sheets and pillow covers were stained. The couch was stained. The worst part about the first room was a serious hygeine issue. The commodes have a retractable bidet. It was covered in faeces. It was too disgusting to take a picture of but I showed it to the manager. After I complained they changed the room but I couldn't sleep properly because of loud neighbours in the adjacent room. You can also see from the pictures that the rooms aren't maintained well. There's water seepage and damaged furniture. I had to request a change of room again but even this room had loud neighbours and a poorly cleaned bathroom with hair everywhere. I just cleaned it myself and adjusted as this was my last night of the stay. I ended up staying in 3 different rooms during my 3 night stay. This hotel needs to be shut down and renovated. They first need to build proper walls in between rooms. Their housekeeping staff also needs proper training."

"I had an unexpected overnight stay and requested a non-smoking room. When I checked in around midnight, the service was quick, and I was immediately given a room. Thankfully, the room was clean and didn't smell. The next morning, check-out was also swift, so the online taxi waiting for me didn't have to wait long."

"I had a staycation for my husband's birthday and our 18th anniversary. I was so happy because all of my requests were granted, and the service was outstanding. Thank you, Vasa Hotel. We received both a birthday cake and an anniversary cake for free. It's rare for a hotel to fulfill customer requests like this. For the past two years, my birthday staycations at other 5-star hotels were a bust, I didn't get anything. This hotel is luxurious, clean, and all the staff are friendly. It truly deserves its 5 stars and is definitely worth returning to (mbaleniable)."

"It was raining when we arrived, and the area in front of the lobby was a bit muddy. When we got to the room, we found a leak. The front desk immediately sent someone to clean it up. We had an early check-in because we needed to freshen up before heading to the hospital. When we were about to leave, the receptionist informed us that our room would be moved to one without a leak. We were on the 17th floor and got moved to the 11th, with the same room size and facilities. Their service was quick and very friendly. The facilities are comprehensive, making it feel more like an apartment than a hotel. The breakfast was all delicious, with a full range of menu options from traditional to modern dishes. The view from the rooftop pool was great, and there's also a kids' playground. What the kids loved most were the room facilities and the breakfast."

"Great solid property and performance all round.. what a great short stay we had.. from the elegant lobby and lounge area through to the beautiful spacious room with lovely views over Surabaya. Exceptionally clean with every quality amenity on offer in room and within hotel confines. The room was peacefully quiet, with a soft comforting bed. Pool and recreational area was set amongst manicured palm trees and gorgeous gardens. The pool was one of the best balanced PH levels I’ve ever swam in. Nice comfortable lounges and ample seating around with some seats submerged along in pool. The refined service level at this hotel is a solid 10/10 from reception/concierge/ room attendants and especially in Pavilion Restaurant. The quality, presentation and variety of food is outstanding at breakfast. Thank you graciously for making our special occasion so welcoming with the beautifully adorable presentation on the bed, lovely celebration cake offered along with the very personal attention from the Sous Chef and charming restaurant staff at Pavilion. Special shoutout to Restaurant ambassador Wachid whom personally escorted our plated celebratory cake to our room. Reception and concierge service was also exceptional, graciously assisting us with our missing luggage wheel dilemma. JW Marriott and all involved.. till we meet again.. Terih Makasih 🙏🏻"
