Hotel Lago Maggiore - Welcome!

This experience was a new one! Never have I been treated so disrespectful in a hotel lounge. I visited my parents here in Locarno who have been living here for the last 50(!) years, so they are locals. This hotel has been redone recently and is under new management. My parents have recommended to their visitors this hotel because of location and positive ratings. They wanted to show it to me on my recent visit and suggested having a drink in the lobby. Upon arrival we saw a nice seating group but noticed a reservation sign. Since the lounge was only about 1/2 occupied we asked the receptionist who was stationed right in front of the seating if we could just have one drink there. She was very friendly and told us it was perfectly fine to sit there. We settled down had a quick conversation and went over the menu when a waiter came over and in the rudest way told us off, picked up the sign and pretty much held it in our faces. We told him we had asked and were given permission to sit there, but if it’s a problem to please give us another option. He only looked at us as if nobody ever asked him for seats before, gave us a stressed out look and told us we just can’t sit here. Then he just took off. We were a bit confused and as we left we ran into the receptionist who asked if there was a problem. I told her that it feels like we are not very welcome here. I know she felt bad and probably would have helped us with that guy but by that time the nice moment was gone. I felt very embarrassed for my elderly parents who took me there, climbed up the stairs with their crutches just to be treated like we are an inconvenience. Needless to say I will find a different place for my family’s visitors in the future!

Words can’t describe how much we enjoyed our stay at the hotel. We stayed at the hotel in October, 2023 with my wife and our 8 months daughter. Staff made sure our stay was very comfortable from arrival until departure. Front desk staff were amazing as well as breakfast staff, I can’t thank them enough for their hard work. Staff were very friendly, professional, and helpful. Room was spacious, modern, clean, and very comfortable. The view from the balcony is breathtaking. The hotel location is ideal, everything is on a walking distance. The hotel has two entrances, the front main one is on the lake and a back entrance is just next to the end of the train station which is amazing. On our day of departure, the staff surprised us with a birthday cake for my birthday! It was very thoughtful and generous. They offered us a late checkout on our departure day which was very kind of them. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Locarno. Thank you everyone

Incredible hotel. I believe this is the best place to stay in Locarno. Right on the water, 4th floor rooms have a large patio with an incredible view. The property is extremely well maintained, very clean. Nice bar on the water front. You have access to bicycles (free) and a washer/dryer. Short walk from the train station. But what makes this place stand out is the service. I travel a lot and this is best in class service.

A great hotel for Locarno. Large clean rooms with a great balcony. Staff were all very helpful. Great choice of breakfast buffet and also able to order omelettes etc. Right on the lake shore, and a short walk to the old town. Would recommend it.

At £350 per night this is one of the most expensive hotels I have ever stayed in, but this is Switzerland; most of the rooms have great views of the lake; it's right next to the train station for those travelling by rail; it has underground parking available for those with a car; a wash and internal cycle store for the well-off on a bike; and it's less than 10 mins stroll to the lake boats. We're certainly pleased we stayed there! This hotel is only three years old and it's very smart. It has been very well deisgned and is extremely spacious. Not only are the guest rooms themselves well-sized and insulated - and of course larger still if you pay more - but the corridors and staircases are wide and the cupboards for the cleaning staff positively huge and well-lit. (That's not normally a concern of guests but it evidences the thought that has gone into this place - housekeeping personnel will be happier if they're not working out of a dingy closet!) The attention to detail is also evident in such things as the lighting controls; the electric blind for the balcony; the very lightweight but extremely effective blackout curtains; and the automatic lights in the corridors coming on quickly rather than instantaneously. The all-important bed was huge (it must have been Emperor size) with very firm but comfortable twin mattresses (Room 308); the staff were very friendly and efficient; and the breakfast offer was first rate, with coffee etc made and delivered to your table to order. Other than breakfast we didn't eat at the hotel or its connected establishments, preferring instead to economise for four nights by going to the rustic Trattoria del Lago a few hundred metres to the east (where most dishes come with polenta or any risotto of your choosing as long as it's mushroom...). Finally, if you are travelling by rail then one tip I can give you is not to leave the terminus at the front of the station but to head back down the tracks to the very end of the platform (Sector D) - see photos. If you're on Platform 2 or 3 then here is a new air-conditioned subway with lifts and an interactive departures' board that I suspect very few people use, but if you're already on Platform 1 then simply drop down onto the road and round to the front of the hotel.

We stayed at Hotel Lago Maggiore in early July and loved it! We ended up needing an additional night because our hotel booking in Lugano got cancelled and the front desk at Hotel Lago Maggiore accommodated us on short notice. We had one night in a Family Junior Suite and three nights in a Panorama Junior Suite. Both rooms offered amazing views of the lake and were very spacious and extremely comfortable. We enjoyed the hotel restaurant and lounge as well and had some of the best mussels ever one evening for dinner. Everyone at the front desk was friendly and helpful and we definitely recommend this hotel.

Lotsa nice places to eat and nightlife. Hotel was nice and they had free bikes.. we road 15 miles around the lake and enjoyed the scenery and healthy activities

This hotel well located on Lake Maggiore is excellent. Large light & quiet modern room with balcony overlooks the lake. Amenities first rate including large bathroom. The wifi is unsecured when hotels of this standard should provide a secure network. Breakfast first class with large range of quality local produce. Large comfortable lounge on ground floor. All staff friendly & welcoming.
