Sonesta ES Suites New Orleans Convention Center

New Orleans|0.32km from Marguerite Oestreicher Fine Arts
We spent 5 nights at this hotel, while I attended a convention. The hotel was conveniently located for the convention. Staff were friendly and helpful (when they could be). Breakfast was ok, nothing terrible or great. Always eggs and a pork product, same 3 cereals, often oatmeal, often fruit, yogurt daily. They had a swimming pool, which was pretty good. We had a sitting area, kitchen, and a bedroom-plenty large enough. So, why 2 stars? On arrival (we WERE early), we were told our room was not ready, but that they would ”upgrade” us to a room that was ready now. That sounded great. I do not know what room we would have received without the upgrade, but I DO know that we had a Queen bed reserved and we got a Double bed instead. That was not mentioned by the staff. In the suite we got, the bathroom door could NOT be closed. The light in the bathroom was oddly placed and initially hard to find. The shower was PAINFUL. There was no way to adjust the stream of water, and it stung our skin every time. The toilet clogged once, although that was promptly fixed. Finally, access to the internet was lost for nearly 36 hours, although the weather had not been especially bad. I do not think this was the hotel's fault, BUT a). they did not keep guests apprised to what was going on, and b) I do not want to stay at a hotel where the infrastructure is bad enough that there is not internet for so long. I had to lug my laptop to the convention and that was not fun. So, you can decide for yourself whether to stay here, but I will not return.

Renaissance New Orleans Arts Warehouse District Hotel

First the positives, great location away from the French Quarter fray and close to many great restaurants (Pêche, Emeril’s, Cochon, Sofia). Staff was friendly and responsive. AC works well and the beds are comfortable. We’ve stayed here many times over the years and consistently had good experience. The negatives? Three things: 1. First and primary there is significant construction happening, so don’t plan on sleeping in. It is constant drum beat of someone banging on a pipe. Starting around 8am. All day. Every day. Even on weekends. Even on Sunday. It really gets annoying. It’s really hard to overcome that in my review. 2. Rooms and hotel are getting really dated. Some of the furniture is scratched and partly broken. Bathrooms look tired and low end. Amenities are few, pool still isn’t open. It just doesn’t feel like a Renaissance. Hoping the construction is to update the hotel for our next trip! 3. As mentioned in previous reviews, not much of an upgrade experience for frequent travelers. The VIP room is literally a closet with small water bottles, a coffee machine, and a few chips. Normally if a lounge is closed, I get a free breakfast for two. Instead you get a $15 coupon which doesn’t buy breakfast for one in the restaurant. Food quality was pretty poor too (again, very friendly staff though). Maybe I am complaining too much about the upgrade experience, but with over 700 hotel nights at Marriott properties, I am pretty good judge about amenities and service. Bottom line: Poor review from my recent stay in April 2023 due to the constant construction noise. I’ll try to stay here again, but I’ll be checking on the construction progress before I do.

The Mercantile Hotel

We fell in love with this hotel. The staff were all very friendly and the hotel was clean. Our room was amazing and huge with a sitting area that had a couch, chair, desk, mini bar with a sink and a TV. We had a separate bedroom with a super comfortable king size bed and plenty of luggage storage space. The bathroom was crazy huge and spotless. They have an interactive system for requesting lines or basically any need you may have. They also have a complementary breakfast, like a real breakfast, with scrambled eggs, sausage links and breakfast potatoes that was all delicious. They had a nice selection of bagels, breads and muffins as well. This is a great, funky, cool hotel and we highly recommend it.
Courtyard New Orleans Warehouse Arts District

This was a nice base for our business meetings (off site) - plenty of on-site amenities and numerous walkable options. The room was quiet - I had a balcony room over the pool on the fourth floor. If the pool was busier it might be a but noisy for the second floor (opens to the pool) but my experience was quiet. The only complaint I have is not with this property specifically, but with certain Marriott hotels. As many hotels have done, Marriott has transitioned to the pump bottles on the wall in the shower. This is fine, but the font size and contrast are terrible when you are trying to distinguish shampoo from body wash. Even with my glasses I had to get close, and without them it's hopeless. Other hotels have contrasting colors and larger fonts - that's really the only issue I had with my stay.

The hotel as a whole feels good, clean and very convenient. It is only five minutes away from the main road. It is not noisy and safe. There is a Luke restaurant downstairs from Hilton, and you can eat directly. Just a few minutes walk from the famous felix ’s restaurant.
Kimpton Hotel Fontenot, an IHG Hotel

First time at a Kimpton and won’t be the last! Excellent location to all major sights. Check in swift, free beer or water to take to you room which I thought was a nice touch. Room was on the 18th floor and very spacious. The bed and pillows where so comfortable. Peacock bar was lovely with really good cocktails. Also loved the social hour with free wine 5-6 daily and the free tea and coffee in the morning. Loved our stay and would highly recommend.
