Dhensa Resort

On our recent trip to Bhutan this property was the most expensive choice we made considering reviews shared on TripAdvisor and MMT and we had high expectations from the place given the exorbitant room rent they are charging in a place like Punakha. Thankfully we could just stay here for 1 night and since we had spent the earlier night at another boutique hotel in Punakha itself, we were in a better position to compare and comment. First things first the location is extremely far from the centre of Punakha. A long drive uphill brings you to the property which has cottages spread all over overlooking the Punakha river and surrounded by pine trees all around. The location is suitable only for travellers who come to simply unwind and stay at the property itself else you waste too much time and energy commuting. The rooms are good with all modern amenities, balconies, a separate seating, bathtub and luxury toiletries. The staff and their service is also good. But there isn’t anything extraordinary. Coming to the food. It was our biggest turn off at this resort. They hardly had any options in breakfast and dinner buffet. During dinner refills were delayed, the food was tasteless, and service not at all worth the price being charged. The breakfast was a bigger disappointment they hardly had anything to choose from. Something as simple as “Poha” was extremely chewy, omelettes lacked taste, pooris were too oily, in nutshell it was really disappointing to have paid such a hefty room rent for this kind of service. P.S. please consider other options you will get much better facilities at a more appropriate pricing and even enjoy your stay.

Beautiful mountain views in an elegant and well designed 4 star hotel. The rooms are just right, the showers fun, and the pool truly heated. The facilities are all really good around the pool as well. The spa was switched on just for us, though ideally, 30 minute notice is required. A dance recital with lilting local music is the evening entertainment and the restaurant staff very helpful and attentive. Yogeshwar at the front desk is knowledgeable and a chat with him is very educational about local culture. We had a great two days here.

I would fully recommend this place Location is away from the main town (15 minutes) on a hill with stunning views from the rooms and restaurant. Staff: was great. Made everything possible and never said no to anything Property - all facilities are great - gym and heated pool. A small library with TinTin for my daughter to enjoy. Very well made rooms with balcony and amazing views

Good location away from main town but access could be difficult at night. Peaceful atmosphere among pine trees. Good, clean and well maintained rooms. Good food but buffet lacked variety. Cultural programs were a good add-on. Overall good experience.

This is an absolutely beautiful property. The rooms are simply and elegantly furnished and extremely comfortable. No wicked steps to trip you up at 3 am in the morning as you go into the bathroom as per all the other hotels we have stayed at in Bhutan. Best of all there is a balcony where you can look out over the beautiful Punakha valley. Yes, the drive up is windy and bumpy and at the moment there are roadworks which are a bit of a pain but it’s all worth it when you get there. All the rooms are set in the forest and in the morning the white fog sits in the valley below and the mountains tower above. Scenic beyond words. The food is buffet style and excellent. We stayed three nights and would’ve loved to stay longer.

Had a long drive through seemingly several mountains before reaching here. Wondered how this resort perched itself on the mountain. It is a beautiful place, room is big. There are seats at the balcony to be closer to ‘nature’. Only used the TV to watch youtube videos because i could not get international channels, Disney+, Netflix. The resort has a cultural performance at 6:30PM when staff will dance to a few song. Resort guests will be invited at the end.

Perched on a hilltop, Dhensa Resort is one of the finest hotels in Punakha. We stayed here for two nights and had a fabulous time. All the staff were exceptional and went out of their way to accomodate us. Our room was clean, spacious and very well decorated. The view from the room balcony was amazing. There was plent of choice during breakfast and dinner, both vegetarian and non-veg. We used the spa and had a massage which we thoroughly recommend. Thank you everyone at Dhensa for making our stay very special.

We had a very good stay at Dhensa for two nights in Punakha.. it’s on a hill and provide great views both from the room ( if you’re on first floor) and from the restaurant. The design and decor is modern and stylish. We enjoyed all our meals, the buffet spread was excellent and every dish was well made. The staff is warm and welcoming. Overall great hospitality, location and food. Opt for rooms preferably on first floor. In case you are /travel with elderly, do note that there can be many stairs to the restaurant and some rooms, we didn’t have an issue with it though.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Dhensa Boutique Resort. As a couple, we were looking for a peaceful and memorable stay, and this resort exceeded all our expectations. The views over the Punakha Valley are breathtaking, with stunning scenery visible from both the rooms and the common areas. The architecture beautifully blends modern design with traditional Bhutanese elements, creating a serene and elegant atmosphere. The staff were exceptionally warm, attentive, and genuinely caring, making us feel truly welcome throughout our stay. If you’re looking for tranquility, comfort, and an authentic Bhutanese experience, Dhensa Boutique Resort is a truly special place. We would highly recommend it and would love to return one day!
