St Michael's Manor Hotel - St Albans

What a beautiful place! The manor feels like frozen in time with the old world charm coupled with modern amenities. It was a perfect getaway for us for the weekend! The lake was almost frozen in the morning but we still had a lovely walk. The breakfast was absolutely tasty and the view from the restaurant is some of the best you can get in the morning. We will definitely be back to this place.

We had a wonderful stay at St Michael's Manor. The hotel staff are very well trained, very friendly, and we were made to feel very welcome. The hotel is set in lovely grounds, with a pond, gardens, and ample parking. Only 10 minutes walk to the Abbey or the Town Centre, and just round the corner from Verulamium Park. Our room (Lilac) was very spacious, with tasteful furnishings, a nice view, plenty of "high end" teas, coffees, etc, comfortable bed, and spacious bathroom. Downstairs, the bar is very comfortable, and the breakfast room has a wonderful view of the gardens. The breakfast (included with our booking) was REALLY good with a great selection of hot and cold offerings. The staff in the breakfast area was wonderfully attentive and friendly. All in all we felt very well looked after, and will come again.

A nice welcome from reception on arrival and their friendliness was matched by all the staff we encountered during our stay. Our bedroom was spacious and overlooked the 5 acre grounds. Good choices available at breakfast. Parking available on site. Walk to town centre and cathedral about 15 minutes and uphill. Hotel doesn't have a lift but staff will deliver your luggage to your room if you wish.

We stay here every time we visit St Albans. A great hotel, very welcoming, helpful staff, rooms are very comfortable, spotless and well equipped. The breakfast menu is certainly one of the best that I have been given in a hotel. We have eaten in the restaurant, and in the bar, on previous visits and food is always of a high standard. The grounds are lovely, and very well kept. The location is excellent, being just a short walk from the cathedral, Verulamium and the city centre. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Amazing hotel with beautiful grounds and super friendly and helpful staff. We stayed here four days and I cant wait come back! The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, served in the restaurant with lake view. We also had dinner in the Cedar Suite, everything beautifully presented. Highly recommended!

This character property offers a really comfortable place to stay. We were there for a few nights and were very happy we chose it. Be aware that the rooms are being refurbed so you might want to try and be allocated one of those when you book. The staff at the hotel are an absolute delight being smiley , friendly and professional. We also had lunch there one day which we thought was excellent. The chef used super produce, beautifully presented and it was very tasty. Overall a great choice to stay in St Albans.

We celebrated my mother’s 75th birthday with about 50 guests. Excellent friendly staff run by manager Roberto helped to achieve a truly memorable enjoyable event. The head chef created a truly delicious Indian menu and Balu set about ensuring the evening ran smoothly. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!

The hotel is lovely and the staff are friendly and efficient. The rooms are generally very nice and overall I would have given at least 4 stars if not 5 stars. HOWEVER, there is one issue that has reduced my rating to a three and that is the quality of the beds. (well, at least in the room called Lilac where my wife and I stayed). The bed dips very badly in the centre (see the attached photo) and after 30 minutes my back was already aching. So, around 11pm, I went to reception and told them that I need to have a bed where I can sleep otherwise I would have to leave my wife who was asleep in the room and drive home (a 40 minute drive at that time of night) and then return to collect my wife in the morning. I made it clear that I would not pay extra and the night staff (very nice guy but forgot his name) clearly took pity on me and went out of his way to try to fine me somewhere. In the morning I went to reception and we argued over the amount they wanted me to pay. I told them I did not wish to pay anything as the bed in room Lilac was not of a decent standard. In the end, considering there were costs for the hotel to change the bed linen (I did not use the bath/shower facilities) I agreed to pay £50. They wanted £100. I still like the hotel very much but this one issue needs to be resolved by the management. I was told that all the beds were the same but I think that some are clearly worse than others because I stayed there before and did not have a problem.

We had an amazing evening, food was delicious, staff friendly efficient and welcoming. Comfortable beds, clean and gorgeous rooms. Thank you to all the staff , Balu, Hapi, Curtis, Rama, Mia and Liam. Beautiful hotel. Would definitely stay again and recommend to family and friends.
