2-Star Hotels in Yufu

It’s the third time we came to Yufuin. Previously, we stayed in onsen hotels with meals provided. This time we are staying for 2 months in Japan to experience the local life, and Yufuin was our third stop, where we stayed for 6 nights. The service is top notch. The host responded very quickly whenever I had queries, and very clear instructions for free pick-up were given days before check-in. As we stepped in the house, the air- conditioner had already been turned on there were 3 big bottles of water in the fridge which made us feel so welcome. They collected our trash every day and asked us what we needed. The guesthouse is an independent unit full of beautiful Japanese decorations. It was sparkling clean and thoughtfully furnished with everything you need. A first-aid box was provided. We were given 12 sets of clean towels and toilet amenities, including toothbrushes. We have stayed in different apartments before and have never experienced this. More importantly, the kitchen was well equipped with everything—many cutlery items of different sizes and even wine glasses. There were a hot pot and a frying pan, a toaster, rice cooker, coffee machine, and even a dishwasher. You can't imagine there is even a massage chair! The bathroom was designed like an onsen. You can simply add some onsen powder to enjoy a hot bath. You can easily access different attractions on foot. The location is about a 20-minute walk to the nearby supermarkets, 25 minutes to the main shopping streets, and 30 minutes to the JR station. If you drive, it is even easier. For us, we enjoyed walking and seeing the beautiful scenery, so it was not a problem for us even though we didn’t drive. Every day we walked to the supermarkets and bought fresh produce to cook. We had so much fun making different dishes and hot pot. When we asked for a whetstone, the host quickly gave us theirs, and the next day, they bought us a new one. They even gave us sake as a gift. On the day of check-out, the host drove us to the JR station and helped us store our luggage in the visitors’ centre. Next time when we come to Yufuin, we will definitely stay here again. It’s really great value for money.

The hostess of this B&B is a very neat and tidy lady. She even cleaned our luggage wheels for us and carried our bags upstairs, then reminded me specifically about trash sorting. I was quite diligent about sorting my trash during my two-night stay, which was fine since I'm also very particular about it. Due to the language barrier, on the first night, I went to use the private hot spring and accidentally wore my shoes inside the small cabin. I'll definitely be more careful next time! This B&B is quite clean, and I'd probably stay here again on my next visit!

The staff were incredibly kind and warm... The room had that authentic ryokan vibe, and it was great to be able to use the tea room, vintage shop, and library. The location is both an advantage and a disadvantage because it is quite secluded, so you have to walk or take a taxi, but walking is actually nice when the weather is good. Anyway, thanks to that, the quiet and tranquil atmosphere was superb.

The staff members were all very friendly and welcoming. The hotel overall was very cozy, particularly the onsens. Although all the four onsens were opened for all guests at the hotel, you can use one of them as long as you want because guests are instructed to hang a sign on the onsen to show that it is currently occupied. This is a great way for the guests to enjoy privacy to themselves, although it is opened publicly. Dinner and breakfast was included in the package so we did not have to worry about finding nearby restaurants. The food was delicious here! Would definitely recommend if you enjoy traditional Japanese meals to get the full experience. We had a private barbecue for dinner, and it was truly immaculate! However, there was smoke all over the hotel lobby coming from the barbecue so it would have been better if they kept the windows opened. It was also indoors so it was slightly overwhelming with all the smoke everywhere in the restaurant. But everything else was on point and breakfast was particularly delicious. 

This was the best accommodation I've had so far in Japan. It's a great experience to live in a building that resembles a Japanese house, and there's also a private hot spring that families or couples can use together. I was very tired, but it felt like it was all gone. Be careful because the water temperature is hot. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash provided smell so good that I'm looking into it in Korea too. Starting with the price, it was really the best accommodation.

I was travelling with my elderly mum and we were not driving. The property is like a private house, very good location along the main street. There were restaurants and onsen just beside the property. It was very well equipped with kitchenware and the bathroom got bath tub and also standing shower. Very clean and well maintained.

It was already 4:30 pm when we entered Yufuin on the first day. The owner had already turned on the air conditioner in our room and provided instructions on how to use the hot springs. He was afraid that we would not be able to visit the attractions before they closed, so he drove us to the fairytale town. Although it was closed in the end, we were familiar with the route. He also helped us check the bus schedule the next day. Thank you!

This is an old ryokan. The owner is a very kind and welcoming woman. It was a pleasure staying with her. Her hospitality made up for any shortcomings. The onsen was nice, the water was hot, and there was also an outdoor hot tub, which made the stay more interesting. We booked a room with breakfast and dinner, as the ryokan was located a bit out of the way and there were no cafes or shops nearby. One downside is that we didn't really like the food. On the first day, we had sukiyaki for dinner with a very, very sweet sauce; it wasn't tasty. On the second day, we paid for a meal for three (for some reason, trip.com only allowed us to book this option), but there were only two of us. We were given some meat and vegetables, which we had to grill ourselves on a kerosene stove on the table. It was barely too much. I mentioned on the first day that my wife doesn't eat meat, but they still wouldn't replace it with fish. While other guests were served puddings and soup, we weren't (apparently, it wasn't on the menu for the second day). It wasn't exactly pleasant, and we weren't full. Overall, the food wasn't great. But overall, the experience was positive.

我們從別府乘坐36號車到由布院車站，打車到酒店1400日元，其實應該提前2個車站下車步行會比較近。酒店附近沒有便利店，所以零食汽水最好在別府買好，或者在由布院買好。店主是一位很熱情的阿姨，哪怕不會很多英語都很積極跟我們溝通，阿姨準備的食物很新鮮，很美味。因為下雪温泉眼被雪結冰了。阿姨付了我們一家人5000日元到附近的温泉浸泡。房間打開窗户可以看到山景，如果是夏天或者1月的冬天的晴天，肯定更美了。房間暖氣熱水都很足夠。酒店旁邊的停車場成為孩子玩雪的天堂，積雪雖然不多，但對於南方的孩子值了。

The hostess was very kind and the room was nice and clean. The only downside was that the bathroom was outside the room, but I actually liked it! It feels like I'm visiting my grandmother's house in Japan, and the breakfast is prepared neatly and carefully, and it's delicious! It's not far from the bus stop or Yufuin Station.
