2-Star Hotels in Kathmandu

Local hotel in central Kathmandu Not far from Thalem and Durbar square Good hotel if you are travelling on a budget while enjoying a nice Nepali deco with a patio-stupa in the center of the property. Room was pretty old but reasonable for the price!

Staying at Holiday Inn is a good experience. The hotel is in the center of the tourist area, with complete facilities, health stations, and warm service. The hotel is very convenient to various attractions in Kathmandu, and the owner is in the tourism business and can solve and plan all doubts and problems for tourists who come to Nepal for the first time. Most of the hotel staff can communicate in English and simple Chinese. The hotel is cost-effective. I stayed at Holiday Inn twice when I went in and out of Nepal.

The first image shows the entrance. It was a bit hard to find at first, but you open it by turning the handle. The doorknob is right where the person is standing. The room was relatively clean, but as you can see in the fifth photo, there's a gap under the door, so bugs were quite common. I'm not sure if they were mosquitoes or bed bugs, but I got bitten in three places in the room on the first night. I didn't get bitten after the second day, so maybe they weren't bed bugs...? There was a power outage from late on the first night (the lights worked, but plug-in items like phone chargers and fans stopped working). Since there was no air conditioning, the fan stopped, and it was hot and humid due to the rain. There were no power outages on the second day onwards. For breakfast, you could choose from about four different side dishes. The menu varied slightly each day. Milk tea and coffee were available, as well as bread, yogurt, and fruit. While the bugs and power outages were a bit of a bummer at times, we got fresh water every day, and most importantly, there were super friendly cats, which alone made it a fantastic stay. They were seriously adorable and often meowed near the room.

Location is alright, there’s occasional cockroaches running past you when you are in the room, cleanliness has a lot to improve on. Worst part is that I booked a single room and was given a room next to the elevator with a window without curtain, anyone tall enough would be able to look into my room and everything in it, to add on to that, the room was next to the elevator and you can hear every footstep and noise/chat coming from the corridor, and when the elevator moves, there’s this super unnecessary music that runs with it so you would get a sense of that throughout the day and night. When I went to the receptionist to ask for a different room, she told me there’s no other rooms available and I have to pay an extra 1500 rupee to upgrade to a different room, that amount, adding with the original I paid for- would already be much higher than a standard deluxe room. Obviously she and the hotel was trying to scam me by leveraging on giving a super lousy room at first. Even though they eventually agreed to change room for me at no charge, I was honestly traumatised by this hotel and was uncomfortable through the stay. Then at check-out in the next morning, the guy was reluctant to let me go asking if I had already paid and making calls to confirm about it. Overall there’s surely better rooms for similar price in Thamel, so do try to skip this hotel unless you like some good memorable reasons to spoil your trip.

The hotel is nice and comfy. Budget friendly but the service and behavior of the staff are very good. We requested for early check in as we arrived very early in the morning. They got us a spare room to rest, until our room is ready for check in. Definitely recommended , in a place like thamel where hotel prices are sky high.

I stayed here near the airport in preparation for my flight the next morning. When I asked the staff about the breakfast time, I got different answers depending on who I asked. When I went to the breakfast venue in the morning, it wasn't ready yet, so I had them call my room when it was ready. The showers are quite local and don't come with a conditioner, so if you want to use them, it's better to bring your own. It was helpful to be able to pick up and drop off from the hotel to the airport.

Awesome! Very very satisfied with our stay at Pomelo. There’s location is great, we are just a few minutes walk from Thamel, 20 minutes walk from Sayambhu, 10 minutes taxi from Balaju… Now the service, it was the best part in the inn, the staff is really very friendly and accommodating, thank you Gyanu and Kamal who helped us for everything during our stay. We booked two rooms as a family, but we got one big family room with separated rooms, the beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was big and proper to use. The breakfast is the best one we had in Kathmandu, fresh and simple. There is a rooftop, from where we took a bowl of air in the evenings and mornings, really nice.

The hotel is located within walking distance of the Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport. The hotel staff is friendly and provided a comfortable stay at a reasonable rate. 

I went there for 1 night just to have a peaceful sleep. I have long way to travel so to catch up my sleep, I was there. It is like a party house at night extremely playing noisy songs. Instead of opening hotel, they should have opened night club. Yes, the environment is club environment. The staffs are nice . I complain by shouting out loud back to them. It is effective, they immediately lower their song. The entrance to the hotel is narrow,no car can enter. Moreover, super loud environment to have a good night sleep. So, not recommend.
