The Solymar beach resort is not the most expensive resort in the Hurghada/Safaga area, but it’s also not the cheapest. Because of this, we were expecting it to be quite middle-of-the-range in terms of quality. At every turn, we were pleasantly surprised and delighted.
The staff were friendly and courteous - whether at the reception, in the restaurant, or walking past someone watering the grass, you are guaranteed a friendly greeting. Everyone is quick to know their customers - after just a day in our usual spot on the beach, Ahmed knew our usual order. The hyper-energetic Magic Entertainment team members were also quick to build rapport and make us feel included in the resort vibes.
We plunged immediately into extreme relaxation with a “honeymoon massage” at the spa, which included time in the dry and steam saunas, a special hammam exfoliation ritual on a heated marble slab, a full-body Dead Sea mud wrap, and an oil massage. The masseuses were talkative and playful - possibly not to everyone’s taste, but this seems to be the Egyptian way and certainly got me smiling and giggling along.
There is not a moment of the day when you might be at risk of going hungry. From the early breakfast in the main restaurant, to the late breakfast at the beach, to the drinks and snacks on offer throughout the day at the pool bar and restaurant, there is always a wide array of quality F&B choices. There is some variation from day -to-day options, and it’s always worth checking out the “fresh-from-the-grill” area to see what the day’s speciality may be. Part of the stay includes one complementary meal at one of the two a la carte restaurants (Italian/Egyptian) where the food is a level or two up from what’s served in the buffets. Go hungry - the Egyptian meal included a starter of hot and cold mezze, a soup, a main course and a dessert (with alternative plant-based and kiddies’ menus).
The resort has done a lot to ensure that it is eco friendly. Apart from the usual request to hang up towels to save water on unnecessary cleaning, they also purify their own water, which is left in your room in chilled glass bottles (it tastes a little weird, but it’s good for the planet).
Overall, highly recommend the Solymar resort.

Guest UserI recently stayed in the Sunrise Alma Bay for 8 days and the hotel atmosphere was just great. The hotel staff were so helpful. My room cleaner Ibrahim was so accommodating, friendly and efficient...and an expert in towel art! Emad at the pool bar was so welcoming and the service was excellent. Hamdy and Mohammed in the towel station/by the beach were friendly faces every morning and so helpful. Anastasia in Guest Relations came around to our table every breakfast and was able to action any little requests we had. She was very impressive with her notebook and actioning things so quickly. And lastly, when I asked to extend my room for a few hours (and very reasonable additional cost) on my last day, the Hotel Manager arranged for me to be moved to a suite on the seafront and the concierge Mahmoud was so kind in helping with my luggage and room change. I have been visiting Egypt for 10 years now and this stay has been a highlight for me because of the helpfulness and friendliness of the hotel staff, the delicious food, the pool (one of the best I have seen), and the beach front with pier and lagoona just make it the perfect location. The added bonus is that it is only about 20 mins from Hurghada airport. I would recommend this hotel to families, couples, singles and will definitely be coming back again. Thank you. Ciara

Sharing the same beach as Arabella, this hotel isn't directly beachfront, but it's much quieter without kids around. The food was decent; we ate very well for our two-day stay. There are evening shows with audience interaction, and during the day, you can just lie on the beach and snorkel – perfect for a relaxing getaway. At night, with the lights on, you can see tons of fish; we even spotted mantas, sea turtles, and small shark groups! The hotel's cats are really well looked after, all spayed/neutered and eartagged, kudos to them! The air conditioning is a bit noisy, and the sound of condensation in the pipes is noticeable. The shower setup is a bit old-fashioned but still functional.

property, but service and logistics need improvement
I have mixed feelings about our stay. On the positive side, the hotel is new and very well-designed. The restaurant is spacious with great indoor and outdoor seating, and the breakfast was decent. The beach is stunning—very quiet with crystal clear water—but be careful entering the sea as there are many rocks at the shoreline.
However, there are several drawbacks:
Service: The staff seems very inexperienced. We were charged to upgrade from a single to a double room even though the website listed them at the same price. At breakfast, we had to ask for coffee multiple times before it actually arrived.
Facilities: Surprisingly, the main pool is not heated, and there is no elevator, which is worth noting if you have heavy luggage or mobility issues.
Location: You are quite isolated here. You definitely need a car or a shuttle to get anywhere.
Overall, it’s a nice physical space, but the management needs to better train the staff to match the ”new” feel of the resort.

This is a classic all-inclusive resort, and our check-in process was smooth from start to finish. They even allowed us to check in an hour early since a room was available, and the staff were very friendly.
The hotel's beach offers beautiful sunrise views, located right next to the main restaurant. Plus, the public areas of Arabella and Azul hotels are interconnected, so you can take photos in the public spaces of both hotels – it's a very photogenic place.
The restaurant food offers a good variety, and the taste is decent. The pizza at the Italian restaurant is quite good and worth prioritizing.
The biggest surprise was that even though we checked out at 12:00 PM, we didn't leave until 4:00 PM. The staff let us keep our wristbands, which meant we could continue to enjoy the hotel's services and the lounge. Big thumbs up to that! 👍

Guest UserMy stay was okay, but my experience was ruined by a taxi driver who agreed on 8 euros from the airport to the apartment. He demanded 20 euros after arrival in the apartment. ( My 2 friends paid 5 euros to a hotel few steps away)
It took over 2 hours to negotiate the fee, involving 2 members from the government authority.
I slept late and felt exhausted the next day.
Staff at the apartment were helpful.
Good breakfast on the roof.
Kitchen was useful.
Close walking distance to the high street.
But the tiles in the bathroom were not clean, toilet seat kept dislocating from screws, drainage in shower cubicle was not working properly. My feet were covered with water for about 10 cm high when finishing the shower. I did not like it.

Anonymous UserOverall, it was quite good. The location is excellent, and it has its own small private beach. It's an all-inclusive hotel. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all pretty average, but there was always something edible. If you have high standards for food quality, this might not be the place for you. However, it's worth mentioning that the decor is quite old; it definitely isn't a 2023 hotel. Many of the doors were broken, making it very difficult to unlock them. Also, my room didn't receive welcome fruits and drinks, even though all my friends did. I'm not sure why that was.

The check-in process at the front desk was incredibly slow; I waited over ten minutes, only to be given a room completely different from the sea-view room I booked—it faced a wall! I had to get angry before they finally switched me to a room with a sea view. It’s best to double-check everything at the front desk when checking in, especially since the rooms are quite a distance from the front desk, and the restaurant is across from the front desk, requiring a walk from the beach.
This hotel's pool and beach don't prohibit Muslim swimwear, but the cleanliness felt average, and the facilities are a bit old. A particular note for parents: the pool under the children's play area is very deep. Even though there are lifeguards, parents should definitely accompany their children.
The food is typical Egyptian quality, with freshly cut fruit and two dishes prepared live daily. The location is quite good, right in the middle of a lively area and very close to the city pier. However, be cautious of the small Egyptian souvenir shops to the left of the main entrance; I don't recommend them. If you really want to shop there, go with a group.
The hotel also has its own pier for direct sea excursions, but be sure to choose your boat captain carefully. The hotel's landscaping is well-maintained with many cats, and the beach water is crystal clear, perfect for spotting small fish and water birds. There's morning yoga by the sea and evening entertainment. There are many hotels in this area, so you might consider staying at a few to get a different experience.

This all-inclusive hotel offers great value for money. My cultural trip through Egypt finally got better in Hurghada. Many people say the buffet is mediocre, but I personally thought it was pretty good. Maybe it's because I hadn't had a proper meal for days in Egypt, so having a buffet really felt like a blessing. There's a small convenience store right outside the hotel, which is super handy for buying things. The only downside is the internet; it's really poor and barely connects.
