The Ctrip local tour package I signed up for included one night in a five-star hotel. I chose the Overseas Chinese Hotel. Because I had a Ctrip Platinum Card, I got a free upgrade to the executive room. I also chose this hotel for the next two days and booked a king-size bed room, which was also upgraded. The front desk staff are warm and thoughtful, and have a good service attitude. Except that it is not a new hotel, everything else is fine. The main reason is the strategic location. It is a ten-minute walk from Wuma Street and the Jingguang Temple is right next to the hotel. I will choose this hotel next time.

I was impressed with the renovated rooms which has all the amenities as a intl chain hotel (Hilton level) at half the price. They even have a massage chair for you to wind down after a long day. Breakfast was also quite decent: mainly Chinese fare but with some Western offerings like pastries, made to order eggs, ham, sausage, toast and passable coffee. Would recommend staying here if you’re on a budget without having to compromise too much on your hotel standards.
