Damyang Metasequoia Road

#falltrip In 1972, as many as 4,700 metasequoia trees were planed along National Road No. 24 in Damyang. This covered 8.5km of road length. In 2000, some of the metasequoias were destroyed to make way for the new 4-lane road connecting Damyang and Sunchang. There was an attempt by the Damyang citizens to preserve the metasequoias. In 2002, the street was awarded the grand prize in the "Beautiful Wood Contest." In 2006, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation named it one of the top 100 Most Beautiful Streets in South Korea.
