The main tower of the Mahathat Temple is a Khmer-style pagoda, which has collapsed and been rebuilt. The temple is full of ruins and traces of destruction after being looted. Many pagodas now only have the base left, and you can still see the traces of the plaster decoration on the pagodas around. Many Buddha statues destroyed by the Burmese army can still be seen. The single admission ticket for Mahathat Temple is 50 Thai baht, and if you purchase the Historical Park Pass for 220 Thai baht, you don't need to buy a separate ticket. If you want to take a photo with the Buddha's head, you must squat down because your head cannot be higher than the Buddha's. Due to the open nature of the site and the strong UV radiation from the sun, it is recommended to apply sunscreen to prevent sunburn.
