Our decision to visit Shirakawa-go during winter was met with pure delight as the snowfall added a unique charm to this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The gassho-zukuri houses, designed to withstand heavy snow, stood proudly against the winter backdrop, creating a postcard-perfect scene. We embraced the cold weather, relishing the cozy warmth of traditional irori (hearth) inside some of the historic houses.
