The Rockery Maze in the Garden - Lion Grove

Lion Grove, one of the four famous gardens in Suzhou, is renowned not only for its exquisite rockery stacking craftsmanship but also for the delightful stone maze that brings joy to visitors. Although Lion Grove is not large, it is packed with numerous small attractions. In addition to the pavilions, terraces, towers, and chambers commonly found in gardens of the Jiangnan region, what captures the eye even more are the intricately unique lake rocks and rockeries. Even the name of Lion Grove is derived from the many bizarre rocks within the rockery clusters that resemble lions. Next to the True Delight Pavilion, rocks are piled up to form mountains, and the countless caves within the rockery create layers upon layers of winding paths, turning it into an inescapable maze. Many visitors end up unable to find their way out and have to jump out, which is quite amusing. This is also where the fun of visiting Lion Grove lies. Past the True Delight Pavilion, a series of exquisite garden scenes unfolds, including the Fragrance Faint from Afar Pavilion, Lake Center Pavilion, Stone Boat, Seeing Mountain, and so on. With cascading rock waterfalls and bamboo and trees slanting across, the halls and corridors are surrounded by scenery that is small yet deeply beautiful, leaving an endless aftertaste.
