MUST do in Kyoto - Arashiyama 🎋Groove
🎋 This is another iconic attraction in Kyoto. Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is very popular with tourists. If you want to avoid crowd, it’s best to come here around 6:30am.
The walk through the Bamboo Grove is quick, around 5 minutes. I will recommend to do the hike and explore the nearby temples and shrines.
You can also make your way to the rail track or down the river where you can get stunning picturesque scenery.

Arashiyama, Kyoto.
We had a great day in Arashiyama. It was a very hot day but the beauty of the countryside made it worth while. We also visited the Monkey Park which my children loved. Being able to feed the monkeys was a good experience. Also the view from Monkey Park was spectacular. Booked a really good Kyoto beef restaurant. The beef was amazing. I think we ordered everything that was on the menu.
Arashiyama Monkey park- Nice views
Nice monkey park, steep climb uphill about 20 mins from the entrance to get to the top. Worth the climb as the views are great and the monkeys were entertaining. Always hungry and loves to be fed. Quite harmless and will not attack or come close as long as you don’t maintain eye contact. Has a small playground for kids as well and a toilet up on top and a cooling room after the long climb. #arashiyama
Arashiyama
Famous for the bamboo forest, Arashiyama is also full of other interesting activities and places.
Tenryu-ji is a UNESCO world heritage site that you will pass by on the way to the bamboo forest.
Kumo no cha is a cute little cafe serving cloud-like cakes and yummy drinks in little baskets!
There is also a cute Rilakkuma store that sells Arashiyama exclusive goods and you can also get adorable Rilakkuma treats there!

Getting There - train from kyoto to saga-arashiyama station
After visiting the bamboo groove, you will walk past a beautiful park. So stop for cherry blossom if it is spring. Then you should see Katsure River and the famous Togetsu-kyo Bridge. If you want, please queue for Arabica coffee outlet with the best view in the world. We would have queued if the queue wasnt that long. Cross the bridge for restaurants, hotel and monkey park.
We saw many couples taking bridal shots near the bridge. Thats how nice the views are!

🇯🇵|Kyoto Arashiyama Kijuro
One day in Arashiyama to see the cherry blossoms again, and checked out this popular restaurant called Kijurou.
The environment of the restaurant is very quiet. There is a huge window between the tranditional Japanese-style courtyard and the dining hall. You can enjoy the delicious food while watching the cherry blossoms outside the window, it is so romantic.
Their classic Wagyu rice bowl is a must try. The quality of the beef is very good, tender and juicy. At the same time, the set meal also comes with boiled tofu. It's really comforting to have a bowl of hot soup on a rainy day.

one of the Kyoto finest park, Arashiyama park. it’s located near the famous bamboo forest but it’s so much more. my first time seeing autumn leaves in real life. wishing to see the next full bloom when I visit. falling leaves have an alluding charm. it’s very beautiful. you can take a boat ride near the river, drop by a tofu restaurant which sells excellent food (reservation needed) take a slow stroll from park to the bamboo groves. beauty is everywhere as long as you look hard enough, but in this case you don’t even need to try hard.

Arashiyama in Kyoto
Arashiyama is a place worth to visit, a walk in the forest
gives a unique feeling. And during a hot day, the
forest provides shade. There are beautiful temples
and temple gardens close to the forest, e.g., Tenryuji
temple. Pictures taken in the forest cannot quite
describe how beautiful it is from the inside and all the
sounds you hear in the forest. The city itself is also nice
to walk around. A bit later in fall the colors must be
amazing. There are lots of small shops and restaurants
to spend several hours in. The rickshaw rides also seemed to be popular, especially by young Japanese couples. Donot forget the other attractions in Arashiyama while you are there.
Arashiyama - Kyoto
#passionpassport
Arashiyama is the second-most important sightseeing district in Kyoto. It’s filled with temples and shrines, but the star attraction is the famed Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. The main street of Arashiyama, along with the famed Togetsu-kyo Bridge, which form the heart of Arashiyama, is nothing but a tourist circus. But, don’t despair. As quickly as you can, walk upriver to Kameyama-koen Park, or into Tenryu-ji Temple and on into the Bamboo Grove. There are beautiful places all around the Arashiyama , from its cute souvenir shops to people waking in traditional dresses. All looks so nice. #arashiyama #kyoto #travelinspiration #traveljapan #japantravel #amazingplace

Arashiyama (嵐山) is a pleasant, touristy district in the western outskirts of Kyoto. The area has been a popular destination since the Heian Period (794-1185), when nobles would enjoy its natural setting. Arashiyama is particularly popular during the cherry blossom and fall color seasons.

%Arabica needs no introduction, they are undoubtedly the most popular coffee shop in Kyoto. Although the store itself is quite small, this particular store is located at the most scenic part of Arashiyama, overlooking the historic Togetsukyo Bridge and Katsura River, where you can enjoy both their excellent coffee and the beautiful scenery.
If you’re visiting Arashiyama, do give it a try! It’s always better to come early to avoid queues.

Arashiyama is one of Kyoto’s top destination. Regardless of the season, there are always a lot of tourist coming here. The walking paths that cut through the bamboo groves make for a nice walk or even bicycle ride. The place is calm and relaxing even though there were a huge number of tourist. Still stunning!

Arashiyama is well known for its Bamboo Groove. Another thing that impressed me is the food. There are places to enjoy local food. I had a chance to taste delicious local halal food and found choices of food souvenir.

To see cherry blossoms in the spring, the famous scenic spot in Kyoto is Lushan. Even in the autumn, it is a famous spot to hang out at the maple leaves covered streets. And there is no ticket, and you can take the JR from the Kyoto train station, the Kintetsu or the bus, it is very convenient. If you take JR, you can take a sightseeing tour. It is convenient to take a walk near the bridge. The trails of wilderness along the way to see the maple leaves or cherry blossoms on both sides of the river. In these two seasons, the train tickets are released very early to buy; otherwise, the station tickets will be sold out soon, and the return trip can be taken off at Lushan Station. A tall bamboo forest is also very mesmerizing, I walked through the Tianlong Temple and Nomiya Shrine, crossed the Yueyue Bridge across Guichuan and went to see the words of Premier Zhou, and often met the women dressed in Kyoto as geisha, which was very interesting.

Kansai Travelogue: Kyoto Edition
📆【Travel Strategy】
This trip to Kansai is my first visit to Japan, and I've long heard that Kyoto is the place where Chinese culture is most preserved in Japan, so I made it my first stop.
📆Itinerary:
Day 1: Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji, Arashiyama, Nijo Castle;
Day 2: Sanjusangendo, Gion, Hanami Koji, Shijo Kawaramachi
🚗Transportation Strategy:
After arriving at Kansai Airport, take the Haruka train directly to Kyoto, which takes about 80 minutes. There are buses and subways from inside Kyoto to the scenic spots. I joined a one-day tour on the first day to visit the farther spots, and on the second day, I just strolled around the spots accessible by bus.
🌟Highlights of the trip:
1. The small train in Arashiyama offers a breathtaking view during the cherry blossom season, but tickets are hard to get and should be purchased in advance. Car No. 5 has a panoramic sunroof, which is the best for viewing the scenery.
2. Sanjusangendo is impressive, with 1001 statues of the Thousand-Armed Kannon enshrined inside. Since photography is not allowed, it's hard to describe the visual impact in words, highly recommended.
3. I ate at a Michelin-starred restaurant called Kawakami, serving kaiseki cuisine. The dishes felt like opening a blind box, but reservations are needed for better restaurants in Kyoto, so it's advisable to plan ahead, or it would be a pity to miss out.
💰Average Spending:
Transportation: Buses and subways start at about 10 RMB, I didn't take a taxi, but I heard they are expensive;
Accommodation: At the end of March during the cherry blossom season, hotel prices generally rise, I booked early at about 500 RMB per night;
Dining: Average ramen shops and rice set meals cost between 1000-1500 yen; barbecue and specialty cuisine are more expensive, usually starting at 4000 yen; drinks can be bought at convenience stores and vending machines for 100-200 yen.
Tickets: Scenic spot tickets are generally between 300-700 yen.
📌Little Tips:
Many restaurants use vending machines for ordering, then you give the ticket to the waiter and find a seat to wait;
Tourist spots generally use cash, it's good to exchange some, or you can withdraw directly from ATMs after arrival, with a fee of about 10 RMB each time;
The local transportation card Icoca can be very convenient for bus rides and can also be used in convenience stores, Apple phones can add a virtual card directly, or you can buy a physical card at the station;
2024 Kyoto Cherry Blossom Viewing Trip March 26-31 Waiting for the Cherry Blossoms at Arashiyama
The cherry blossom front is forecasted to start blooming on March 23 and reach full bloom by March 31. Therefore, I booked a cherry blossom viewing trip to Kyoto from March 26 to March 31.
Kyoto experienced a snowfall on March 21, and this year's unusual temperatures have delayed the flowering period by a week.
Although some places had not even started blooming when we left, we still witnessed the stunning full bloom, realized how quickly cherry blossoms can grow within a week, understood the difficulty of perfect timing, and reflected on how important it is to cherish the beauty of the present.
During this six-day trip, we stayed in Arashiyama, so we could also say we witnessed the cherry blossoms' journey from buds to full bloom, especially the cherry trees along the Katsura River, and on the hills of Kameyama and Kogetsusan in Arashiyama. The saying that cherry blossoms change every seven days is no exaggeration; some blossomed from buds to full bloom within a single day.
Sagano Arashiyama
P5 Zhou Enlai's poetry stele. On April 5, 1919, Zhou Enlai, who was studying in Japan, visited Arashiyama and wrote 'Arashiyama in the Rain': 'Twice I toured Arashiyama in the rain, with dark pines on both sides, interspersed with a few cherry trees. At the end, suddenly a tall mountain appears, from which a spring flows out, green as can be, circling the rocks and shining upon people. The drizzling rain, the dense fog; a ray of sunlight pierces through the clouds, revealing even more beauty. The myriad truths of the human world, the more one seeks, the more obscure they become;—in the obscurity, occasionally a glimmer of light is seen, and it truly feels even more beautiful.'
🍚 Healthy Tofu meal of the day
#japantrip
We were not planning for any restaurant in Arashiyama, however, this restaurant is nice enough to attract our attention to dig into the menu options.
Notice they offer range of food from meat, soup, dessert to even tofu meal, hence we decided on tofu meal! Our friends and family been recommending us to try at least 1 tofu meal in Japan.
The tofu meal turn out to be very delicate and special, the taste was light and easy to accept, recommend to try!
☕️ My warm life saviour
#japantrip
We were intended to look for a place to get some warmth from the cold weather. Neither of us have the expectation the warmth this cafe has to offer, they also offer nice cup of coffee too! We were so delighted by the staff service as our order was incorrect but with their limited english language, they exchanged to the correct one for us!
This cafe also has al-fresco area at level2! Although it was so cold, but we decided to enjoy the area by our own! Nobody was up there due to the weather 😆

Extra Tip: During your trip to Kyoto, why not try a kimono experience, walking through the ancient streets, taking photos to remember, which will surely make your journey unforgettable! Also, don't forget to book a tea ceremony experience in advance to taste the true Japanese tea culture🍵.
Mystical Kyoto 🍵
Kyoto, once the imperial capital of Japan, is a city that embodies the essence of traditional Japanese culture. Surrounded by scenic beauty and steeped in history, Kyoto is a place where ancient temples, traditional tea houses, and tranquil gardens offer a peaceful retreat from the modern world.
Start your exploration at the iconic Kinkaku-ji, also known as the Golden Pavilion. Set alongside a mirror-like pond, this Zen Buddhist temple is covered in brilliant gold leaf that reflects beautifully in the water, exemplifying the opulence of the Muromachi period.
No visit to Kyoto is complete without experiencing a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. The art of tea, known as "chanoyu," is a choreographed ritual of preparing and serving Japanese green tea, matcha, together with traditional Japanese sweets to balance with the bitter taste of the tea. Engaging in a tea ceremony is not only a pleasure for the senses but also a journey into the philosophy of simplicity and mindfulness that defines Japanese culture.
Wander through the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, a natural forest of bamboo that offers one of Kyoto’s most unforgettable sights. The path through the towering bamboo is otherworldly, providing a perfect backdrop for photos and a serene walking experience.
Take a moment to visit Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings. The trails lead into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari, which stands at 233 meters and belongs to the shrine grounds.
Kyoto’s Gion district is the place to catch sight of the elusive geisha as they hurry along to their appointments in the evenings. This historic district is also home to charming shops, restaurants, and ochaya (tea houses), where you can enjoy kaiseki dining, the traditional multi-course Japanese meal.
The best time to visit Kyoto is in the spring for cherry blossom season or the fall when the leaves change color, painting the city in vibrant hues. However, Kyoto’s timeless beauty is evident year-round, offering a deep dive into the heart of Japanese heritage and tranquility.

Enchanting Kyoto 🍵
Kyoto, the heart of traditional Japan, is a city where the past lives in harmony with the present. Known for its classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial palaces, and traditional wooden houses, it's a place where the Japanese spirit of "wa" (harmony) palpably pervades the atmosphere.
Begin your journey at the historic Kinkaku-ji, the renowned Golden Pavilion, which is set against the backdrop of a peaceful pond, reflecting its intricate architecture. A visit to Gion, Kyoto's famous geisha district, offers a chance to step back in time. Wander the cobblestone streets in the early evening to catch sight of geishas in exquisite kimonos gliding to their appointments.
Tea ceremony experiences are abundant in Kyoto and provide a deep insight into the Japanese culture of tea, known as Chanoyu. Participating in a ceremony in a traditional teahouse surrounded by serene gardens is a must-do. These sessions not only introduce you to the ritualistic preparation of matcha but also the philosophy behind this Zen practice.
Autumn is an especially magical time to visit, as the city transforms with the vibrant reds and golds of maple leaves. The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is another not-to-be-missed experience, offering a breathtaking stroll through towering bamboo stalks, best enjoyed in the quiet of early morning.
When visiting Kyoto, be prepared for lots of walking, so comfortable footwear is essential. Also, be respectful when taking photos, especially of geishas and private properties in traditional areas.
Kyoto invites its visitors to embrace a slower pace and appreciate the beauty in details, whether it’s through the ritual of tea, the tranquility of a Zen garden, or the subtle aesthetics of kaiseki cuisine. It's a city where every visit enriches the soul.

Life advice: You must visit Kyoto to experience a koyo (autumn leaves) hunt
🍁 Every November, during the maple viewing season, I am reminded of Kyoto's autumn leaves. Not only are the colors beautiful, but when paired with local architecture, temples, shrines, etc., it's absolutely stunning!
🍁 Having been to Kyoto multiple times and visited over 30 spots for autumn leaves, here are 9 spots I find to be the most beautiful:
📍1. Kajii Shrine
—— One of the earliest places in Kyoto where the leaves turn red, it's less known but breathtaking. There are few visitors, so I recommend going in the morning when the sun is shining brightly.
How to get there: Take a local bus from JR Kameoka Station and get off at Kajii Shrine.
📍2. Jingoji Temple
—— Located on Mount Takao, you need to climb a small mountain path, but the scenery is truly beautiful. The most beautiful time is not when the leaves are at their peak, but when they start to fall.
How to get there: Walk for 20 minutes from JR Bus Takao Station.
📍3. Ohara Sanzenin
—— Sanzenin in autumn is much more stunning than in summer. Sitting quietly in the inner hall, enjoying matcha while admiring the courtyard's autumn leaves is one of life's great pleasures.
How to get there: Take Kyoto Bus No. 17 to Ohara and walk for 10 minutes.
📍4. Jojakkoji Temple
—— Located in the Arashiyama area, I would like to call it the 'ceiling' of Kyoto's autumn leaves. The combination of red, yellow, and green colors and the sense of layers are very outstanding.
How to get there: Walk for 20 minutes from JR Arashiyama Station.
📍5. Tofukuji Temple
—— The most spectacular autumn leaves in Kyoto city, consistently ranking in the top 3 spots for maple viewing in Kyoto. After the peak, you can see the magnificent sight of the Tōtenkyō Bridge ablaze with color, but there are also many visitors.
How to get there: Walk for 10 minutes from JR Tofukuji Station.
📍6. Eikando Temple
—— A must-visit spot for viewing autumn leaves in Kyoto, it's not an exaggeration to call it the most beautiful autumn scenery. The combination of autumn leaves and traditional wooden temples is the best pairing.
How to get there: Take Kyoto Bus No. 5 to Nanzenji Eikando and walk for 3 minutes.
📍7. Nanzenji Temple
—— Near Eikando, you can visit both at the same time. You must enter Tenjuan to truly experience the beauty of the autumn leaves. There's also the very famous Suirokaku aqueduct worth seeing.
How to get there: Walk for 10 minutes from Kyoto Subway Keage Station.
📍8. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine
—— The best combination of autumn leaves and a red bridge. The autumn leaves alone are not outstanding, but paired with the red bridge and flowing water, the atmosphere is greatly enhanced. Go early to capture the bridge without people.
How to get there: Take Kyoto Bus No. 203 and get off at Kitano Tenmangu.
📍9. Kodaiji Temple
—— A famous spot for autumn leaves near Kiyomizu Temple. The daytime scenery is not as outstanding as other spots, but the night maple is really worth seeing. The light show is nice, and the night maple by the quiet lake in the backyard is also beautiful.
How to get there: Take Kyoto Bus to Higashiyama Yasui and walk for 7 minutes.
