An Important Catholic Monument and Site
The Magellan’s Cross or Shrine is said to be the location where the Portuguese Ferdinand Magellan erected a cross to signify the propagation of the Roman Catholic faith in the Philippines and Asia.
For the locals, the Cross or the Shrine has miraculous powers that could heal them even from the diseases which are considered as incurable by medical doctors. #urbanexplorer #tripblazers #mytripvlog #celebratewithtrip #passionpassport

Magellan's Cross
A little throw throwback to my last business trip to Cebu in June 2022. Took an early flight and arrived in Cebu in the morning. My luggage was delayed by the airlines so I kinda be able to travel baggage free. First off to Magellan's Cross in the morning so as to skip the crowd. The sun is out bright and the sky clear. First time in Cebu, this is not bad. A lot of street peddlers selling bottled water everywhere but overpriced, lucky I had my own water. #magellanscross #cebu

Cebu, located in the center of the Visayas, consists of 167 islands. It is the second avenue connecting the Philippines to the world. I recommend visiting Magellan's Cross, Santiago de Cuba and Carbon Market. From these local landmarks, you can get a taste of some unique Southeast Asian lifestyles.
Cebu City
Cebu is generally safe and violent crime, such as muggings is rare, but be careful when walking around the city at night. A lone tourist walking around dark roads late at night can be an easy target for someone to make a quick buck.
Being the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines, Cebu has preserved its Spanish influence as evident in the establishment of Catholicism and the remains of some Spanish structures. Some of the most interesting heritage sites that are worth visiting are Magellan's Cross, Mactan Shrine, and Fort San Pedro.
Cebu has only 2 seasons and the weather remains warm and cool all year round. Similar to the rest of the Philippines, the best time to visit Cebu is between January and April. This is the driest time of the year when you are likely to experience little rain and plenty of sunshine

The Cross & Church
Would you ever believe that the original cross from 1521 is still encased inside the wooden cross? That’s what experts says. Some people says it’s only a replica others says it’s destroyed. The cross is located in Magellan’s Cross besides Basilica Menor del Santo Niño de Cebu.
Cebu’s famous history about Magellan and Lapu-Lapu as Lapu-Lapu is one of Philippines greatest heroes for his bravery to resist Spanish colonization.

Magellan planted a cross to signify this important event about the propagation of the Roman Catholic faith in what is now Cebu, in central Philippines. The original cross is reputedly encased in another wooden cross for protection, as people started chipping it away in the belief that it had miraculous healing powers.

Underwhelming. It’s just good to know the approximate place where the conquerors laid the cross. You don’t actually see the actual cross, but a note that describes the cross entombed somewhere inside the wooden cross. Wood inside wood causes more decay imho.

The Magellan's Cross is just located outside of Basilica Minore del Santo Niño. During the month of December, it is expected that further decorations are found in preparation for the Sinulog Festival on January the next year. The original cross has already been encased inside because, according to the locals, it was believed that the cross can make miracles. Thus, many people carved a small portion of the cross.

Cebu City awesome trip
We used trip.com again. cannot beat the price or service. Flew from Dumaguete to Mactan and back again on Cebu Pacific. No issues! picked up at the airport in Mactan. Even though the flight was early the driver was there waiting for us with a sign. He was very nice and informative. The vehicle was clean. And he took us right to the hotel door. We chose a cheap hotel because it was only one night. We got what we paid for! Don’t make that mistake! Still, the price was unbeatable and the quality of the hotel was not the fault of trip.com. We will continue using trip.com. Great prices and great service!

The Iconic Magellan’s Cross
I had a wonderful time with my friends at Magellan’s Cross and Sto. Niño Church. I wasn’t able to capture the cross but I was amazed that the original cross used by Magellan was encased in another cross which is now standing at the shrine. Most likely, to protect from harmful elements and preserve its physical form. Really interesting.
