Springtime in Taizhou Citywalk | The Premier Garden of Huai Left
| The Premier Garden of Huai Left. In spring, there's no need to jostle with crowds in Suzhou; Taizhou's gardens are less crowded and more beautiful.
►The Premier Garden of Huai Left
Qiao Garden is acclaimed by Mr. Chen Congzhou, the master of Chinese gardens, as 'The Premier Garden of Huai Left'! It was established during the Ming Dynasty's Wanli era (1573-1620), originally named Risheng Garden, a name derived from Tao Yuanming's 'Returning Home' which includes the line 'The garden is visited daily to complete its charm.'
►Owner of Qiao Garden
Over 400 years, Qiao Garden has changed hands several times, with Qiao Songnian being the most famous. In the ninth year of the Xianfeng era (1859), Qiao Songnian was appointed as the Salt Transport Commissioner for the two Huai regions. He gathered salt merchants to restore the salt industry, continuing the historical splendor from the mid-Tang period that 'Half of the world's salt tax came from the two Huai regions' and 'Half of the salt tax of the two Huai regions came from Taizhou.'
►Garden Strolling Route
Shanxiang Caotang - Songchui Pavilion - Jiaoyu Xuan - Shilin Biejing
▪ The entire garden of Qiao Garden is divided into east and west parts, including Shanxiang Caotang, Songchui Pavilion, and other pavilions and towers that retain their original appearance, with courtyards connecting them in the middle, as well as Jiaoyu Xuan, Laiqing Pavilion, Shilin Biejing, and Er Fen Bamboo House.
▪ Shanxiang Caotang implies the meaning of 'high mountains and flowing water,' while Songchui Pavilion expresses the artistic conception of 'pine wind and crane shadows.' Immersed in it, every step reveals a new scene, and every corner is perfect for taking photos.
▪ The entire garden is ingeniously designed, using ancient cypresses, unique rocks, and seasonal flowers and plants to represent the changes of the four seasons, which is a distinctive feature of Qiao Garden. Hence, it was customary for ancient people to recite poetry, paint, enjoy tea, and admire flowers here. The famous Qing Dynasty poet Yuan Mei once wrote the verse 'The moon shines on the mountains with few human traces, the wind shakes the pines with loud bird sounds' in this garden. One can sit in the central courtyard and savor it slowly!

The first garden on the left bank of the Huai River / The 'Qiao's Grand Courtyard' in Northern Jiangsu / Qiao Garden in Taizhou
📍 The Qiao's Grand Courtyard of Qiao Songnian from Shanxi is very famous, and the Qiao Garden at No. 68 Hailing North Road in the old city of Taizhou can be regarded as another 'Qiao's Grand Courtyard' in Northern Jiangsu. It is also known as the first garden on the left bank of the Huai River by later generations, a key national cultural relic protection unit, and a national 4A scenic spot.
📍 The Qiao Garden has changed owners and names several times:
— It was originally built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty as the private residence and garden of Chen Yingfang, the Qing of the Taipu Temple. It was initially called Risheng Garden, derived from Tao Yuanming's 'Returning Poem' 'The garden is interesting because of the sun';
— During the Yongzheng, Qianlong, and Jiaqing periods, Gao Fengzhu, the governor of Gaolu Temple, owned this garden. The cultural taste and gardening art reached its peak. Later, three stone bamboo shoots were erected in the garden and renamed Sanfeng Garden;
— During the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty, Wu Wenxi bought and renovated it, renaming it 'Zhe Garden';
— After it was owned by Qiao Songnian, the salt transport commissioner of Lianghuai, it was called Qiao Garden, which continues to this day.
📍 Qiao Garden is small and exquisite, a classic Jiangnan garden, with a layout similar to that of Ge Garden in Yangzhou. When you enter the door, you can take a map and refer to the fourteen scenes of Qiao Garden and find the treasures of the garden: the thousand-year-old cypress, the Taihu stone of the beauty looking in the mirror, and the first fortune of the people.
📍 Free visit, scan the code at the door. It takes 30-40 minutes to go around.

Qiao Garden in Taizhou
Taizhou has three major gardens, Mei Garden, Peach Garden, and Qiao Garden, among which, Qiao Garden is the most historical garden in Taizhou, and one of the oldest private gardens in the northern Jiangsu region, known as the 'First Garden on the left side of the Huai River'.
Qiao Garden was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and it has a history of more than 400 years. There are many ancient trees and strange stones in the garden, most of which are relics from the Ming Dynasty.
There is a 'Beauty Looking in the Mirror Stone' which is the treasure of Qiao Garden. It is a natural Taihu stone that is not spliced, 'thin, transparent, leaky, wrinkled', like a leaky window, seemingly transparent but not, playing the role of blocking and hiding the scene. There is also a Chinese juniper in the garden, which is estimated by scientific measurement to be as old as the garden.
Qiao Garden is currently free of charge, and the tour time is about one hour.

In the first garden of Huaizuo, there is a private first blessing
Qiaoyuan was built in the Wanli Period of the Ming Dynasty. It has a history of more than 430 years and is a private garden built during the Wanli Period of the Ming Dynasty. During the Tongzhi years, the two Huai salt transports enabled Qiao Songnian to move from Taizhou to Taizhou, and purchased the park and renamed it "Qiaoyuan." Qiaoyuan has the distinctive features of Jiangnan gardens. The garden is small, but it can be said to be small, but it has unique artistic concept. It is one of the top ten private gardens in China. Step by step inside, you need to watch slowly, because you may miss an antique or beautiful scenery with historical value if you are not careful. The Qingge Pavilion is the tallest building in Qiaoyuan. It has a high view and a beautiful view of the park.
Walk in the garden, it is not the garden itself. Instead, let's take a look at the owner's aesthetic taste through the pavilions and ponds. A comfortable lifestyle is between the mountains and trees wrapped in this high wall. The mountain swaying hall is covered with blue bricks and slabs, and the corners of the roof are not as flat as the northern areas, and not as high as the southern areas. It is the intersection of north and south buildings. The
garden is centered on the mountain ring grass hall. The southern chiseling pool is stacked in the main view, and the north has a garden. Wen Guizhen imitation boat-shaped building, standing in the ship's warehouse and the bow, can enjoy the water view in the pool. Opposite the rockery waterfall, the flowing water makes people feel the natural lake and mountains. In the middle of the wall of the exit, the brick carving "Fu" is embedded in the middle of the wall, which is the first blessing of the people. The ingenious idea is that the entire blessing can't see the strokes, all of which are made up of various folk mascots. Exquisite carving, meaning auspicious. Before you leave, come and touch the word "Fu" and feel the blessings from the ancient gardens.

Qiao Yuan, don't look at it is not very eye-catching, but it is known as the "first park in the east of Huai River." There are many places in Taizhou that are in a daze. Here, we recommend a quaint garden hidden in Taizhou Old Town, Qiaoyuan. The garden owners of Qiaoyuan pay attention to the arrangement of flowers and trees in the scenic spots, and look at the elegant and elegant eyes in the artistic conception, such as banana green. Qiaoyuan's layout is small, compact, cleverly conceived, and the overall layout is very reasonable. Every building has its own characteristics and is very delicate. Under the pile of lake stones, built brick walls, twists and turns. Turning around the tunnel, turning to the left at the end, tall and spacious, makes people feel a sense of openness. Imitation boat-shaped building, the bow is anchored in the Yixin pool, the boat building is located on the shore, standing in the ship's warehouse and the bow, you can enjoy the water view in the pool. Opposite the rockery waterfall, the torrential water, the pool of hibiscus, slim, let people feel the natural lakes and mountains. The "Wengui Zhixie" couplet reflects the smooth sailing of the scribes, and after the fold of the Gui, the boat is drawn, and the wind and the waves are pleasant. The garden is not big, but the winding path is quiet. Every time you pass through a corridor, you will see different scenery, and every step has a surprise. Tourists are in the pavilion, overlooking the pool under the ridge, and the fish are countless. The pavilion has six sides of brick carving, the south side is squid, and the other five sides are goldfish, meaning "golden jade full house, more than a year." During the aerial photography, it was quite unexpected. This lush tree is a good decoration of the Joe Garden. It is the earliest private garden in northern Jiangsu. It is located in the middle of the old city, but there is no way to find a little bit of the city. Noisy. Too many places are covered by reinforced concrete, it is hard to see
