Taiwan’s Picturesque Sun Moon Lake 🌞🌜💦
The ferry ride around Sun Moon Lake was a serene journey that showcased the beauty of Taiwan's natural landscapes.
Boarding the boat, I was greeted by the gentle breeze and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains mirrored in azure blue waters. The rhythmic hum of the engine was like a soothing soundtrack that played in the background as we glided across the lake. We saw charming villages and lush forests along the shoreline.
Each time the boat turned behind a peninsula, new vistas were revealed - from the iconic Lalu Island to the picturesque temples nestled amidst verdant hills. It was a peaceful escape, a contrast from the the hustle and bustle of Taipei City. I really enjoyed the tranquility of Sun Moon Lake's idyllic surroundings.

One of the prettiest lakes in Asia
Taiwan is brimming with incredible natural scenery yet few locations captivate the tourist masses quite like Sun Moon Lake. Interestingly, the lake as it is today is actually man-made, formed as a result of the dam constructed during Japanese rule in 1931. However, regardless of the fact that it is a relatively new landscape, the area is home to the Thao tribe and as such there are many myths and legends relating to the mountains surrounding the lake. If you’re heading for Sun Moon Lake, then the best way is by bus or by car. There are many private tour companies that run buses from both Taichung and Taipei to the lake and some even include hotel accommodation in their tour package. However, a car of your own or a rental is a far more enjoyable way to get there as you’re not bound by schedules. There’s plenty of paid public parking around the lake and most hotels provide on-site private parking.
Sun Moon Lake Taiwan: Its really a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life . Its no wonder its one of the most famous scenery in Taiwan. Surrounded by lush forrest ,mountains famous for its path along side, pagodas, temples and offering a crystal blue water . Just had the superb experience that wants me to go back again again.

Stayed at Sun Moon Lake for two days, and now I like this slow pace more and more. Sitting on the lake cruise, boarding the Xuanzang trail, watching the sunrise and sunset, enjoying the beautiful scenery, taste the mushroom tea eggs, taste the Thao cuisine... Feel the happiness connection between Jiang Gong and Mei Ling, the mountains and waters in front of them are also due to these old things. , become more warm and moving.

Sun Moon Lake has 6 sections of bicycle trails in addition to a number of hydrophilic walks, from the Shuishe Visitor Center to the Xiangshan Visitor Center. Relaxed, about 3.4 kilometers, a lot of beautiful scenery by the lake! There are many bicycle rental shops in
, and the cost varies according to the performance of the vehicle. The minimum is 50/day. Generally, you can rent the mortgage certificate or the hotel key card. For example, the Giant Sun Moon Lake store near the Shuishe Visitor Center, the Merida to the Mountain Leisure Plaza, and so on. You can ask the owner of the property for specific locations, and some of the homestays offer free bicycles for guests to enjoy.
The early morning when the group is yet to arrive is the most beautiful moment of Sun Moon Lake. Come to Sun Moon Lake and have to stay for one night, just ride a bicycle and get close to the lake to experience the hard-won beauty of peace.
Most people go to Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan because it is very beautiful. Going to Sun Moon Lake is also indispensable for the boating (speedboat) water, but what I care most about is the big meal at the Sun Moon Lake Palace. The reason why it is called the palace is that its origin is from Mr Jiang because the water is also the place to pay attention to the landscape. On the top floor of the palace, while enjoying the freehand dishes, and enjoying the scenic view from the window, it does not feel that important to fill the stomach. It is not too late to get some food.
The best way to go to Sun Moon Lake is to take a ride. At this time, there is some light rain in the weather. You can still avoid the rain on the boat. Haha, you will arrive at Xuanguang Pier in a short while. Xuanguang Temple is a Buddhist temple located on the bank of Sun Moon Lake in Riyue Village, Yuchi Township, Nantou County, Taiwan Province. It was once dedicated to the top bone of Xuanzang. It was originally the place where the Xuan Zang master relics were taken back from Japan and temporarily worshipped. In the Republic of China, after the construction of Xuanzang Temple was completed, Xuan Zang master relics were transferred to Xuanzang Temple. The tea egg of Sun Moon Lake's grandmother only concentrates on doing one thing. In the ladder leading to the Xuanguang Temple at the Xuanguang Temple Pier in Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan, an 84-year-old grandmother sells mushrooms and tea eggs in the pavilion. Apo has sold tea eggs here for more than 60 years, and has been sold from the 18-year-old "Sister Tea Egg" to the 84-year-old "Apo Tea Egg". The name of the grandmother is Zou Jinpeng. She grew up on the bank of Sun Moon Lake. She was a local Thao people. She never thought that the mainlands cross-strait opening policy would sell the tea eggs that sold nearly one Jiazi to the night. Taiwan's best eaten Sun Moon Lake tea egg." The boat stopped at the Shuishe Pier, strolled on the water trail of the Shuishe Pier, and enjoyed the fresh air of nature. The trip to Sun Moon Lake will come to an end. The Shuishe Pier has a special shopping street where visitors can buy something. . [Travel Tips]: [Address]: Sun Moon Lake Scenic Spot, Yuchi Township, Nantou County, Taiwan [Tickets]: Free [Traffic]: 1. If you want to take the cable car to visit Sun Moon Lake in the scenic area, do not go to the Jiuzu Cultural Village, it is recommended to purchase the cable car. Full journey (round trip) 300NTD/
When it comes to Sun Moon Lake, it is really a feeling. After all, the primary school textbooks are very impressive. Even Taiwanese people have said that they have studied in the second year of the National Primary School. Although
Sun Moon Lake is in Nantou County, it is very convenient from Taichung in the past. There is a shuttle bus, and you can also choose a day trip.
However, Sun Moon Lake is not a natural lake. It is a semi-artificial lake used for power generation. It can't see the shape of the sun and the moon from the surface. It has to be taken from a high altitude, but when I go, the weather is bad, there is a cloud. Can't fly too high, sorry.
The best choice for lake tour is by boat. There is a public passenger ship. It will stop at the two attractions of Sun Moon Lake. The most interesting one may be the explanation on the boat. It is super funny. Seeing that star hotel is not, the characteristic is: very expensive! Hahahaha
Sun Moon Lake is the largest lake in Taiwan Province of China... The Sun Moon Lake is deep and the lake is green. There is a beautiful island in the center of the lake called Guanghua Island. The island divides the lake into two halves, and the north side is like a round sun. Tan; the south like a curved moon, called Yuetan.
Yiyuetan Alishan in the primary school textbook seems to be the first impression of the mainland generation on Taiwan. And this morning, when I came to the Yidashao Pier in Sun Moon Lake, the lake was covered with thin mist as described in the textbook, and the green lake and the rolling hills around it were shrouded in a ripple. Its just that I got up a bit late, and I didnt see the morning star on the horizon and the little lights on the mountain, faintly reflected in the lake.
The sun is getting higher, the morning fog finally dissipates, and everything is clearly visible in front of you. Sun Moon Lake has a circumference of 37 kilometers and a depth of 27 meters. It is bounded by Lalu Island in the lake. The northern half of the lake is the sun pool, and the southern half of the lake is the moon lake. The shape of the sun or the moon is not too obvious. However, the fresh air and the suitable temperature here are really fascinating. The average summer temperature in Sun Moon Lake is no higher than 22 °C, winter is not lower than 15 °C, there is no heat in summer, and there is no cold in winter because of the shelter of the towering Central Mountain Range. Even Taiwans most troublesome typhoon has few travels, and its indeed a land of feng shui.
Ita Thao Wharf is an important terminal in Sun Moon Lake, and the Docklands is also a community of Thao indigenous people. It is said that every year in August, the lunar calendar meets the Thaos harvest festival, and you can also see authentic aboriginal song and dance performances here.

Self-driving around Taiwan Island Guide - A healing journey for myself
Before the New Year, the unfinished work and endless papers once made me anxious to the point of insomnia, often waking up in the middle of the night and sitting up looking at the room not knowing where I was, so I decided to take a week-long self-driving tour around Taiwan, China for the New Year.
We chose to start from Taipei and go around the island counterclockwise, from several key cities and counties along the west coast to Kenting, and then back to Taipei via the east coast. During this trip, we experienced coastal plains, lakes, mountains, wetlands, rural areas, tribes, and urban life, which is a deep experience of Taiwan's geography and life. Here is our self-driving route and some memorable points:
Day 1: Hong Kong, China - Taipei, Taiwan, China, landing at Taoyuan Airport to exchange New Taiwan dollars, pick up the car, and buy a phone card. It is recommended to buy a phone card to provide a Taiwanese phone number. Start the journey as soon as you get the car, the first stop is Danshui.
Day 2: New Year in Taipei. There are many guides to Taipei, you can search for them yourself.
Day 3: Taipei - Taichung (Plain). En route and activities: Xinfeng: visited a local temple fair, saw fields and villages. Hsinchu: Recommend Taiwan Tsinghua University, Nanliao Fishing Port - the closest place to the mainland of China, but be aware that there are many stray dogs, Hsinchu City Temple, be sure to go into the market inside, there are people singing opera at night, the experience is very magical. Stay in Taichung at night.
Day 4: Taichung - Tainan (Inland Lakes and Mountains). En route and activities: Changhua: Lukang Town, as if stepping into the 1970s. Sun Moon Lake. Yushan National Park: The mountain road is very difficult to walk, pay attention to refueling in advance, you can enjoy the highest mountain in Taiwan Province, Yushan, at the highest point. Alishan. Chiayi: A mountain road comparable to a roller coaster, and a rural area deep in the clouds, passing a celebration in a village in the public field, the female host is leading the villagers to sing Dinosaur Carrying Wolf. Tainan: Avoid Lei Ji Village Hotel, pit.
Day 5: Tainan - Kenting (more coastal fisheries). En route and activities: Tainan: South Kanlou. Kaohsiung: Taiwan's second largest city. Kenting National Park, you can stay longer, from Kenting is where I feel Taiwan is really a vacation place.
Day 6: Kenting - Taitung - Hualien (extremely tired but extremely beautiful). The villages, life and scenery of this section are completely different from the west coast, with a lot of ethnic characteristics. We experienced the indigenous wedding, the wetland landscape of Taiwan, and the mountains and the sea.
Day 7: Hualien - Yilan - Taipei. I highly recommend Hualien, the sea of the Seven Star Lake Scenic Area is intoxicating. The Qingshui Cliff is lingering. This section is very clear and there are many lonely towns. If you are driving at night, you can take a starry sky picture at the Tropic of Cancer.
Due to word limit, if you have any travel-related questions, you can ask me in the comment section, I can answer more in detail. Happy New Year
Sun Moon Lake Half-Day Tour Guide | So beautiful! You're right to come
| So beautiful! You're right to come. I recently went to Sun Moon Lake in Taichung, which is really beautiful! If you also want to go, here are a few small guides for reference~ 😍
📌 Sun Moon Lake Tour Guide:
First of all, Sun Moon Lake is really small, with only three main attractions, which can be reached by ferry in turn. 💡The order of the ferry is Xuan Guang Temple-Ita Thao Pier-Shuishe Pier. Remember, you must get off at each pier, otherwise you will have to queue up again at the next pier. The waiting time is about 20 minutes for a ferry, so please be patient.
Coming out of the parking lot, you can see the landmark stone of Sun Moon Lake (Figure 2️⃣), and then walk down to the pier, this pier is called Xuan Guang Temple. In addition to enjoying the beautiful scenery, there are also famous tea eggs (Figure 3️⃣) that can be bought for tasting, with a good taste, slightly thick skin, and very chewy.
Then come to Ita Thao Pier, this is the place of the Thao aborigines, it is the busiest section of the three piers. There is a snack street (not long) here, where you can buy some souvenirs and eat meals and snacks. In addition, the cable car is also at this pier, you need to walk a distance (Figure 4️⃣), and you can enjoy the sparkling scenery while queuing! The other side of the cable car is the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, you can go in and play, just make up the difference. If you don't want to play, you can queue up to take the cable car back to the pier.
Finally, it is Shuishe Pier, which is even smaller. There is a small row of hotels by the lake, where you can stay for one night and enjoy the beautiful scenery by the lake. There are also some cafes in the guide, but we didn't go.
In summary, it takes about 4 hours to play, and the time can be arranged by yourself. If you like cycling around the lake, it takes about 6 hours. In short, Sun Moon Lake is really beautiful and worth a visit! 🤩
I hope everyone can have fun at Sun Moon Lake! Remember to take more photos~ 📸
Cable car ride with magnificent view
The formosan aboriginal cultural village and sun moon lake cable car offer a majestic view of the lake and Sakura trees during the cherry blossom period.
The cable car has different colours and the green colour represents the crystal cabin! There are 2 queues for visitors to decide if they want crystal cabin.
The cable car ride was smooth, abit shaky when there’s wind. We love the views of the beautiful sun moon lake and it just feel different seeing it from above!

located at the left side of the Shui She Wharf. very huge templer that was rebuilt with a stairway of 366 steps, each representing a day of the year. from the temple, you can have a bird eye view of sun moon lake. with its cultural pillars and structure, the temple is a favorite with local to take wedding pictures. if you drive, it would be more accessible although cycling and walking can be done as well.

Sun Moon lake 🌞🌕🏞️
Located in the foothills of Taiwan’s Central mountain range. The East side of the lake resembles a sun while the West is a moon, hence the name.
🌞🌕 Sun Moon Lake surrounds a tiny island called Lalu. It’s surrounded by forested peaks and has foot trails.
⛴️ However, we chose the cruise option to take in a panoramic view of the mountains and water. The experience was both enjoyable and healing when floating on the lake. ☺️☺️

POV: I Took a Day Trip to Sun Moon Lake
- I arrived at Taipei Main Station at 9am and 10am train tickets were sold out to Taichung so had to wait until 11am. My ticket cost 375 NTD one way.
- I got there at 1:15pm. Then, I got a bus from Gancheng Station about 10 mins from Taichung Railway Station but it stopped there anyway.
- Make sure you have coins for the bus it cost 190 NTD. The staff were so kind and felt the service wasn’t good enough and told me I only needed to pay 100NTD! I left at 1:45pm and arrived at 3:25pm.
- There is a nice view from the Starbucks. Tenren Tea is also next to it but not sure if there is a view from there.
- It was too late to get a bike as shops close at 6pm. Got a boat for 300NTD to visit three points and was told to be back for 6pm.
- Arrived at 4:20pm at Xuanugguan Pier. Small walk uphill to see a temple. You just need about 30 minutes here. Left at around 5pm.
- As I moved over to Ita Thao Pier, there was commentary provided but it was all in Chinese. There is a nice pagoda and temple along the route.
- At Ita Thao, I got there at about 5:15pm so I really only had 45 minutes. There is a short trail along towards the rope way which closes at 3pm. Wear bug spray around your ankles because you will get bitten!
- Overall the area is nice but I would recommend staying overnight to really enjoy it or else booking everything well in advance and getting up very early.
- It was nice to see the rowing team on the water and water skiers as well.
- I was on the 6pm boat back and arrived at Shuishe by 6:20pm. I got a pizza at Moon Restaurant and they charged my phone for me.
- I left Sheuishe at 7:25pm on last bus and arrived at Taichung HSR Station at 9pm . I had to pay 700NTD for my train which left around 9:30pm and arrived at Taipei Station at 10:30pm.
- Thanks for reading and I hope this is useful! Is there anything you would do differently?
