Holiday Inn Express London - Luton Airport

Luton Airport Area
I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Luton Airport and had a generally positive experience. The hotel’s location is incredibly convenient, especially for early morning flights, as it is just a short walk or shuttle ride from the terminal. The rooms were clean, modern, and well-maintained, with a particularly comfortable bed that ensured a good night’s sleep before an early flight. Additionally, the staff were welcoming and efficient, making check-in and check-out smooth and assisting with any queries. The on-site restaurant offers a decent variety of meals, and the breakfast buffet was plentiful with a good range of options. Room service was prompt, and the food quality was satisfactory. The hotel also provides good amenities, including a fitness centre, free Wi-Fi, and business services, with ample parking for those driving in. However, being close to the airport does bring some inevitable noise from the planes. While the windows are soundproofed, light sleepers might still notice it. While the convenience is a huge plus, the rates can be on the higher side compared to other nearby accommodations, so it's worth booking in advance to secure a better deal. The immediate area around the hotel is quite utilitarian, with few attractions or dining options outside the hotel itself. Nevertheless, the Holiday Inn Luton Airport is a solid choice for those prioritising convenience and comfort before or after a flight. The staff’s hospitality and the hotel’s amenities make it a pleasant stay despite some minor drawbacks.

The bed is placed between a pillar and the window sill. The bed cannot be dropped from the left or right. It can only be dropped from one side, which is very inconvenient! The photo is not like this, I feel like I have been deceived🥹 There was no refill shower gel in the bathroom, so I had to step out in the middle of the shower and look for shower gel in my suitcase to complete the showering process😭😭 The bed is very soft and the quilt is relatively simple. I even found one or two short hairs on the bed🥲 The good thing is that the decoration of the hotel is relatively new👍🏼 and the service staff are quite polite.

I booked and paid for a superior room based on your offer, as I have stayed in this room before. However, I was given a shabby, small room, number 14. It seems rooms 14 and 15 are reserved for guests you no longer wish to see. The explanation from the friendly receptionist was that the hotel was fully booked, which was not true. She tried to make up for the situation with a practical gift from Champneys, but the claustrophobic room and the difficulty of accessing it with a large suitcase after a long journey were unpleasant. The hotel incorrectly judged me based on my attire, even though I intended to use their facial massage services, which were very professional, as were their massages and the products they use. Everything that was old seven years ago is now seven years older and even more worn out. Breakfasts are modest but healthy. They could use more fresh herbs, which they once grew in the spa gardens, now overgrown with weeds. Guests leave their plates and glasses on the lawn, and no one picks them up promptly. The spa lacks organization, except on weekends when older women step in to help, solving problems more quickly and efficiently. I am disappointed because it is not fair to deceive customers regarding room types. While the room lacked nothing and was regularly cleaned, it was next to a smelly toilet, and I was promised a superior room but given a standard one, as indicated on the temporary card received upon arrival. However, I must commend the lady who has diligently worked there for 30 years. It would be nice if she were friendly even when not promoting their services. If improvements are not made to the facilities and surroundings, there is no reason for me to return specially after the room switch and no difference in the price.

I’ve stayed here so many nights over the last 11 years back from when it was first built and was the Ramada. As I stay so much I cannot fault the staff that I see in the day time, Arianna, Amy, Laura, and all the reception staff are lovely, very good at their jobs and are the only plus to this hotel. Standard of hotel outside the staff forget it. Tonight I’ve checked in, come to my room and they normally have single use plastic cups in the bathroom for some water overnight sealed in a foil, turns out tonight they have washed and reused old cups, I’m in an executive room where we used to get a bottle of water and a snack bar, nothing anymore. This was the only ihg hotel I knew of that didn’t offer spire or platinum members a snack with their welcome amenity for years, cheap skates, the whole hotel is run as cheap as possible. My conclusion is this hotel is run by profit hungry people who don’t care about service. As I say I stay here a lot and I really feel that some of the staff are great, they could do so much better than working in this hotel where the management just want to make quick money. An embarrassment to the ihg brand. I still have to stay here as it’s the local hotel to my work, but the management all need sacking and the whole thing starting again from the management up.

The hotel is very basic but you get what you pay for as it’s cheap. Fine if you just want to sleep and get to the airport as it’s near the station. Good bus/train links to the airport. Hari behind the reception desk was very nice and helpful though.

My granddaughter had a fifth birthday party so I booked a stay for the night to save the sixty miles journey back to Essex . Maths came into this and holiday inn came top of the pile with breakfast thrown in so a no brainer . But as you can see by my ratings for cleanliness etc this hotel is way better than you would expect . The room we had was very nicely decorated and spotless. The bathroom was the same but there are tiny little details that might go unnoticed, like the bath towels are size xl and the shower is quality , the bed mattress is top quality . I could go on , but for my money I feel I got every penny . Breakfast was buffet style , so cereal , full English ,tea coffee juice , fruit , eat as much as you like . Microwave in reception , where else do you see that ? Reception toilets spotless. This is an eye opener for me as travelodge used to be my go to . But no more

If I’m honest. We were surprised. Previous reviews & the cost meant that I set my expectations low. However, staff were lovely & attentive. Our room was well equipped & very clean. I’ve stayed in supposed ‘posh’ hotels now & then & had to battle for an iron board. Not an issue here. Iron & board. Hairdryer. Bottles of water & glasses & a lovely selection of tea & coffee with both a kettle & coffee machine. The bathroom was small & a little tired but clean & the towels were big & great quality. Breakfast came as a surprise too. Hot & cold options with pastries. Juice & hot drinks too. The food could have been warmer but the quality was good. Over all. We would recommend for a convenient, comfortable & friendly stay. We will rebook when in the area.

Stayed at the hotel for the night before an early morning departure from Luton Airport. Parking and check in was a breeze and staff were readily available with great service. The room was a solid 5/5, clean, modern and even the bathroom was spotless. No signs of tiredness throughout the hotel, bedroom included. We used the restaurant, where there was ample choices but service was a little slow and a few mix ups with the order and bill, but all issues resolved and nothing to effect the review. Will definitely use this hotel for both personal and business use.

Cozy hotel and friendly staff. Had some electricity issues in a room and was upgraded to a room with a bathtub, nice touch.
Mercure Bedford Centre Hotel

We stayed in the Bedford centre Mercure hotel for two nights from 21-23 September. The hotel itself is fine, but the management is absent and the customer service is abysmal. I am so irritated by how terrible the service was, I would never recommend a hotel that treats guests like this. When I say the management was absent, I am being literal. There was no manager available to sort out a very simple issue we had regarding the car park. None of the staff on Saturday or Sunday could deal with processing a £5 refund and by the time we checked out on Monday there was still no manager. (Running late due to traffic apparently!) As the hotel car park we had paid for was completely full on Saturday - we requested a refund from the receptionist. She said she couldn’t authorise it, so offered a “welcome drinks” voucher for the “bar and restaurant” instead. We were also told that the car park would empty AFTER midnight when an event was scheduled to finish so could move our car then. We passed on this idea of staying up to move our car in the rain! On Sunday morning we took the drinks voucher to the restaurant and asked for two coffees. We were told our voucher was not valid and could only be used in the hotel bar. (The voucher said it could be used at the restaurant). So, I went to the receptionist and asked for a refund for the parking, handing back the useless drinks voucher. She said there was nothing she could do and would have to wait until Monday to speak with a manager. I asked who was in charge of the hotel today, she said no one. We checked out on Monday morning at 9:30, still unable to process a refund as the manager was running late. The hotel rang at 3pm and then argued with me when asking for the full card details I’d paid for, unable to accept that I’d paid by Apple Pay for the parking so the card number didn’t match the physical card. Eventually sorted … I think. I have to wait for the refund to appear on my statement. But what a hassle for a FIVER! The lack of customer care, the lack of empowerment of the staff to sort out a simple problem, being messed around - and the simple fact you are charging for car parking and not guaranteeing a space. My partner is disabled with limited mobility and we had to park ten minutes walk away. If we’d known we couldn’t park at the hotel we wouldn’t have booked it - and certainly we do not accept being charged for a service we couldn’t use. I felt that the whole team was of the impression of why were we complaining about a five pounds charge. They certainly gave the impression they didn’t care, which made me more determined to ensure I got the refund! So - in future I will avoid. Find a Premier Inn or independent hotel where the staff are enabled, trained and empowered to help.
