"The room was great, on the 21st floor, directly facing Yongtai Gate, offering a good view of the ancient city's layout. They also provided 4 bottles of high-quality spring water in the room. Breakfast was rich, including Cantonese options. On the day we left, we asked the front desk for a late check-out until 3 PM, and they agreed. Even though it's an older five-star hotel, it still maintains its quality. Very good. And it's convenient to get to the ancient city."

The doorman at the entrance was also very welcoming, immediately offering to help with luggage upon arrival. Their detailed and genuine service made us feel warm and welcomed from the moment we stepped in.

The bedding was soft and skin-friendly, allowing for immediate relaxation and a peaceful night's sleep. We were also delighted to receive fresh welcome fruit upon check-in, a lovely touch that highlights their attention to detail.
3. **Overall Summary:** From the doorman to the Executive Lounge and the room amenities, the service in every aspect was top-notch. The environment was comfortable and quiet. MMollyxiaoaiThe breakfast here is probably the best I've ever had! So many options and really hearty dishes, no wonder everyone who visits Shanxi needs a nap afterwards 💤. Service was good, though they weren't very flexible with upgrades this time. Also, the projection in the movie room wasn't working properly… The welcome fruit was just okay, didn't really fancy it. The first Starbucks coffee on the first day of my stay was a nice touch though – perfect for an early morning pick-me-up.

GGuest UserThe hotel facilities are quite old, but its location is a big plus. I wasn't a fan of the large vanity mirror facing the double bed, and the air conditioning display stayed lit up all night. The power outlets also seemed a bit dated.
It was clean, but there's a construction site downstairs. Luckily it rained, so there wasn't much dust, but it was quite noisy in the mornings.
The overall environment is pretty average, which is to be expected for an older hotel. The breakfast selection was limited and the taste was just okay, though the knife-cut noodles were decent.
I really need to vent about the restaurant. They advertised a separate entrance for hotel guests, but when I went down for dinner, it was packed. The staff managing the queue kept giving conflicting information, and the whole system was incredibly disorganized. Eventually, they told us to wait for half an hour across the street with non-guests until the central corridor restaurant opened. When I went back to the hotel lobby to ask what was going on, a front desk attendant had a security guard escort me up to a table in the Chinese restaurant, where I had to share a table. The food wasn't great either – very salty.
Lots of complaints, so I'd advise caution.

**I. Front Desk Check-in:**
1. A gentleman at the front desk, whose first name was July (I've forgotten his surname), claimed that the 'gong'an' (public security) system couldn't access our IDs. He then proceeded to use his personal phone to take photos of our ID cards. I repeatedly told him not to use them for any other purpose and warned that we would report it to the police if any issues arose later.
2. We were a group of four and had booked two standard twin rooms (with two beds) many days in advance. We specifically requested adjacent rooms on a higher floor. However, we were placed on the 12th floor (out of over 20 floors in total), and our rooms were not next to each other.
**II. Room Interior (Major Complaints):**
1. The bathroom glass door and the main room door would collide, posing a significant risk of the glass door shattering!
2. For a twin room, there was only one sink.
3. At around 9:30 AM, all the lights in the room inexplicably turned on (we hadn't booked any wake-up service)!
4. The pillows were too thin; one was too low, but stacking two made them too high.
5. The nightlight was not motion-sensored; it had to be switched on and off manually.
6. The room occasionally had strange, unexplainable noises.
7. There was only one tissue box, which felt a bit stingy.
8. The room was very small, pitifully cramped.
9. The room door surprisingly had no door stopper, which was very inconvenient!
**III. Public Areas:**
1. The hotel is surrounded by shopping malls and bars, making it a bit noisy. The window glass wasn't very soundproof.
2. The public corridor on the 12th floor of the hotel had a musty smell mixed with cigarette smoke.
**IV. Breakfast (Complaints):**
1. On the first day, there was no escort service to a table, but there was on the second day.
2. The escort service was particularly odd. After being led to a table, the staff member didn't flip the small card on the table to the ”occupied” side (the other side being ”empty”). As a result, when I returned with my food, I found my seat had been taken by someone else (I was in tears, figuratively speaking).
3. There were small slips of paper on the table for ordering special egg dishes to be delivered to the table, but there were no pens available, making it impossible to mark our choices…

YYoYo_pandavipFacilities: The hotel is a bit old but well-maintained. The mattress was too soft, but the pillows were good. The breakfast area layout was average, but the breakfast itself was decent.
Hygiene: The hygiene was acceptable. We saw housekeeping changing bedding when we arrived, which confirms they change it for every new guest.
Environment: The location isn't far from the old city, but it's still a bit of a walk. If you're traveling with seniors or children, I recommend taking a taxi.
Service: All the staff were very polite, including the front desk, the cleaning ladies, and a special thanks to Ms. Jia Xiaoqin at the breakfast area front desk, who had an excellent service attitude 👍🏻

**Courtyard Design:** Very beautiful, many scenic spots within the ancient city are decorated in a similar style.
**Room Amenities:** Given the prime location, the room isn't large, perhaps around 15 square meters. It has all the essentials and is very clean. The mattress was comfortable. Of course, it can't compare to high-end or luxury hotels. Its main advantage is its excellent location; it's very convenient for exploring, and you can easily pop back for a rest when you get tired.
**Service:** The staff were very service-oriented. When we arrived, there weren't many guests, and the service was very attentive.
**Breakfast:** It's not a buffet; it's a fixed-menu breakfast, like a 'nine-grid' style. It looks very appealing, and the taste is decent enough to fill you up.
Overall, it's a good stay. Naturally, for this price point within the ancient city, you shouldn't compare it to hotels of the same price outside. It's incomparable, primarily due to its superb geographical advantage.

ZZliLocated right next to the Confucius Temple, it's incredibly convenient for exploring the ancient city. The rooms have a traditional decor and are very warm. The hotel grounds are really spacious. We arrived late at night, but it was so easy because we'd messaged the hotel on WeChat beforehand to arrange a complimentary business shuttle pick-up from the high-speed rail station. Their service is excellent and proactive. Since it was the off-season, they even upgraded us to a larger room for free, which was fantastic value for money. With traditional kang beds, old-fashioned door locks, and a classic courtyard, it's perfect for guests who want to experience traditional culture.

KKyaraMeru_If you're traveling to Linfen, Shanxi, I genuinely recommend Gu Cheng Da Yuan. It's not a hotel in the usual sense; it's more like staying in a living piece of history.
The moment you push open the heavy wooden door, the city's hustle and bustle are shut out. It's a genuine old house, not some 'faux-ancient' style.
🛏️ The stay was more comfortable than I expected. The room was spacious, antique in style, but not at all dark.
✔ Underfloor heating + central air conditioning throughout, so no fear of the cold in winter.
✔ Turn on the projector and binge-watching shows in bed at night was incredibly satisfying 📽️.
✔ Welcome fruit, tea, coffee, cocktails 🍹, and afternoon tea 🫖 were all prepared.
✔ 24-hour butler service, always responsive.
✔ Takeout can be delivered directly to the room – super friendly for lazy people.
🥟 The attention to detail was a real bonus. On the Winter Solstice, I actually got to eat dumplings handmade by the hotel, and I suddenly felt 'cared for'. The breakfast menu changes daily, so you don't get tired of it.
💆♀️ This was a truly relaxing, 'lie-flat' vacation. This time, I also tried the newly introduced sound bowl healing at the hotel, which made me so relaxed I didn't want to talk throughout the session. Even if I didn't leave all day, just soaking up the sun, reading, and daydreaming in the courtyard felt completely worth it.
📸 Every corner is picture-perfect. Carved window lattices, grey brick corridors – every spot is Instagrammable.
If you're looking for a trip where you don't have to rush your itinerary or exert yourself, but simply want to stay somewhere excellent and peaceful, then Gu Cheng Da Yuan is truly a place to just lie back and relax 🤎.
