The next morning we went to the capital of Naxos, a small town built on the northwest slope of the island, facing the sea and with beautiful scenery. The town is full of rugged roads, decorated with beautiful flowers, climbing along the mountain, from the port to the ancient Venetian castle on the top of the mountain. The alleys are lined with stone old houses, doorways and churches, with strong Venetian characteristics. From the 13th to 16th centuries, the Venetians occupied Naxos, so there are many Venetian-style castles and houses.
