Traveling around the UK alone - Dundee's green factories — traveler post in Dundee

Traveling around the UK alone - Dundee's green factories

The 'Verdant Factory' located in Dundee really gave me a little surprise. The Verdant Factory, also known as the Scottish Jute Museum, was formerly a jute factory. In 1991, the factory was bought by the Dundee Heritage Trust and reopened in 1996 under the auspices of Prince Charles of Wales. The museum mainly introduces textiles. The textile industry was once the lifeblood of Dundee's economy. The factory museum displays a steam engine from 1801, various textile machinery, accompanied by videos and background audio, giving people an immersive feeling. Especially the workshop exhibition hall, which is amazing. There are three floors, allowing visitors to gradually ascend, reaching close to the roof to overlook the entire workshop. The afternoon sun shines into this now silent workshop from the high windows, and I seem to hear the noise of the loom and see the busy figures of the workers. . Name: Verdant Works Address: W Henderson’s Wynd Dundee Time: Monday to Saturday 10:00-18:00 Sunday: 11:00-18:00 Ticket: 14 pounds .

First Stay at Malmaison Made Me a Loyal Fan — traveler post in Dundee

First Stay at Malmaison Made Me a Loyal Fan

This was my first experience staying at a Malmaison hotel, and it certainly won’t be my last. I spent six nights here, from August 5–11, 2025, and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this hotel. The reception team stood out with their friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, and genuine helpfulness. When I faced difficulties making reservations at other Malmaison hotels, one of the reception staff went out of their way to contact those locations and arrange all my upcoming bookings. Their kindness and exceptional service truly eased my travel plans and left a lasting impression. Before this stay, I had never heard of the Malmaison brand. The wonderful experience in York led me to choose Malmaison hotels for the rest of my journey across England and Scotland. I even explored cities like Aberdeen, Dundee, Newcastle, and Leeds—all places I had never visited—because there were Malmaison hotels there. My room at the York Malmaison was modern, spacious, and elegantly designed. It featured a cozy seating area, a mini refrigerator, a large wardrobe, and ample storage space suitable for an extended stay. The bathroom was equally outstanding, equipped with a walk-in shower, a soaking tub, high-quality toiletries, plush towels, robes, and slippers. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring I had excellent nights' sleep throughout my stay. The hotel's rooftop restaurant was another standout feature. Every meal was beautifully presented and tasted amazing, making it one of my best hotel dining experiences during my travels. The hotel was impeccably clean throughout, and all the staff I encountered were warm and welcoming. York itself is very walkable, with the train station, historic sites, and shops conveniently close to the Malmaison. This first experience with Malmaison left such a great impression that I opted for multiple Malmaison hotels during my trip through England and Scotland, even returning to York for another stay. This hotel introduced me to the fantastic Malmaison brand, and I’ve been a devoted fan ever since.

An Unmissable Gem for Design and Decorative Arts Lovers — traveler post in Dundee

An Unmissable Gem for Design and Decorative Arts Lovers

The Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) is the world's largest museum dedicated to design and decorative arts. Its primary location is in South Kensington on Exhibition Road, near the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. However, the V&A's expansive collection is also showcased at other sites in the UK, including V&A East, V&A East Storehouse, Young V&A, and V&A Dundee. At the South Kensington site, you'll find an extraordinary collection renowned for its strength in fashion, textiles, ceramics, and sculptures. A standout feature here is the Cast Courts, boasting spectacular plaster casts of famous European monuments like Trajan's Column and Michelangelo's David. Other must-see treasures include Tippoo's Tiger, a mechanical marvel from 18th-century India, the Raphael Cartoons, the exquisite Ardabil carpet, and the iconic Great Bed of Ware. The museum offers free entry except for its temporary exhibitions. You can easily spend a couple of hours exploring this immense collection. If you're a true museum aficionado like me, you'll likely need a few days to fully experience everything, especially with the engaging interactive displays the V&A has added in recent years.

🗺️ Dundee for Every Budget — traveler post in Dundee

🗺️ Dundee for Every Budget

📍 Place: Dundee, Scotland ✨ What it felt like: Walking along the waterfront was one of my favorite parts of the day. The city has a creative atmosphere, with impressive architecture sitting alongside historic landmarks and plenty of cafés to stop and recharge. 👀 What stood out: The V&A Dundee and the RRS Discovery area made the waterfront especially interesting, while the riverside paths were perfect for a leisurely stroll. I also enjoyed wandering through the city center, where independent cafés, public art, and local shops added plenty of character. Since many attractions are close together, it was easy to explore most of the highlights on foot. 💡 Exclusive tip: If you're planning to use public transport, a Dayrider bus ticket is a great value. Start your morning at the waterfront before visiting the museums, then finish the afternoon with a walk up to one of the city's viewpoints for a different perspective over the River Tay. ❤️ Personal feeling: Dundee felt welcoming, relaxed, and refreshingly uncrowded. It's the kind of place where I could happily spend an unhurried day with family, discovering museums, enjoying the waterfront, and ending with coffee while watching the river. #Dundee #Scotland #TripMoments #VisitScotland #RiverTay #ScottishTravel #SlowTravel #TravelInspiration #travel2026#travel#couplestrip#thingstodo#familytravel#citydaytours

St Andrews Cathedral

St. Andrews Cathedral was once known as the greatest building in medieval Scotland. Due to wars and the invasion of time, there are only ruins left here. Only some broken walls allow us to vaguely see the splendor of hundreds of years ago. The two spires of the church ruins have become the landmark of St. Andrew. Although it is a relic, it is backed by the North Sea and has a beautiful scenery.

Edinburgh Castle

The magnificent castle embodies the history, culture, and glory of Scotland. The visitor pathways and signage were well-organized, and there was even an audio guide in Mandarin, which allowed tourists like us who don't speak English to gain a deeper understanding of the castle. The staff at the visitor center were warm and attentive, and the police officers in the square outside the castle were friendly and responsible, helping me find my lost wife.
