Haiku poet in Edo Period
Beside a big gate of Osaka Tenmangu and it’s stone signage, you might overlook this small stele. This place was once the residence of Nishiyama Soin, a famous Haiku poet in Edo Period. If you are not ...
It is on the right side of the main gate on the south side of Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. He is a person who played an active role as a haiku poet and also influenced Basho Matsuo. There is a monument here because there was a private school nearby, but I thought it would be nice to have a signboard for explanation because he was that person.
It is the site of the hermitage where a poet lived in the early Edo period, called Soin Nishiyama. It was on the east side of the main gate of Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. It seems that he came to Osaka and built a building called Mukai-an in this area and read haiku. He also created a school called Danbayashi-fu and has issued many disciples. It is a stone monument that you can see when you visit Osaka Tenmangu Shrine.
The stone monument of the site of Nishiyama Soinko Eian is in front of the main gate of Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. Nishiyama Soin was a samurai from Yatsushiro, Higo (present-day Kumamoto Prefecture), and went to Kyoto as a renga poet, and in 1642 he went to the world of haiku at Mukai-an, and his disciples were celebrities such as Saizuru Ihara and Kikan Kamishima. It is probably the place where that talent was excavated. A must-see for those who like haiku.
It is a monument on the right in front of the main gate of Osaka Tenmangu Shrine, and is said to be a monument to Soin Nishiyama, a haiku poet and renga poet in the early Edo period. It's in an easy-to-understand location, but it's just a monument, so if you're not a fan of Soin Nishiyama, you won't be impressed, but you may want to see it while visiting Osaka Tenmangu Shrine.
