This is a lovely place to do crafts or to purchase crafts. The one downside is that it is hard to get here by public transit. Worth a stop if you are coming to the area!

We visited Gangu-an in Akiu Craft Village with our child. We weremadevery welcome. First you can choose your kokeshi wooden doll shape. A short introduction is given to how to paint a traditional koke...
Charming!
So glad we made the detour having been to the onsen town; everyone was super friendly. One kokeshi maker took us to his workshop and had us making bits and pieces with the lathe! He wouldn't take any ...
Not worth the trip
We were staying in Miyagi and decided to drive out here. It definitely didn't seem very welcoming to foreigners. There are a few shops that sell wooden toys and Kokeshi. One shopkeeper was very friend...
