On the day we traveled to the edge of the sea 🇯🇵 — traveler post in Fukui Prefecture

On the day we traveled to the edge of the sea 🇯🇵

We've traveled to Japan many times, and we're familiar with cities, temples, mountains, and old towns. But if you venture a little further, you'll discover a different side of Japan, where the "sea" tells its story. This time, we'll take you off the beaten path to explore four distinct coastlines of Japan, from rocky cliffs to cities where the sea is an integral part of daily life. 🪨 TOJINBO · FUKUI | 東尋坊 Starting with the distinctive coastline of Fukui, its highlight is the series of rock cliffs with columnar structures and natural cracks stretching along the Sea of Japan. Looking closer, you'll see that the appeal here isn't just the ocean view, but the unique rock formations and coastline that set it apart from typical cliffs. 🌲 AMANOHASHIDATE · KYOTO | 天橋立 Another side of Kyoto that offers more than just temples and the old city, this area features a long sandbar covered in pine trees stretching across Miyazu Bay. From an aerial view, you'll see a verdant strip stretching across the water. These are some of Japan's most unique coastal landscapes. 🌿 OKI ISLANDS · SHIMANE | 隠岐諸島 Change from "looking at the sea" to "walking on an island" at Nishinoshima – Kuniga Coast (国賀海岸). The view of coastal grasslands, walking paths, rugged terrain, and the Sea of Japan creates a vastly different and expansive atmosphere from the first two locations. ⚓ YOBUKO · SAGA | 呼子 Finally, let's look at the coast from the perspective of the people. The town of Yobuko in the Karatsu region is connected to the port, fishing, seafood, and the Yobuko Morning Market (呼子朝市). Here, the sea is not just a backdrop for photos, but an integral part of the town's daily life. 💡 Before you go: Some coastal and island destinations are off the beaten path of major cities. Travel may require transfers by bus or ferry, and sea weather can change. It's advisable to check routes, ferry schedules, and the latest information closer to your travel date. Perhaps your next trip to Japan doesn't always require searching for new landmarks. Just keep traveling… Until the land meets the sea 🌊 If you could choose one, where would you most want to start: cliffs / sandbars / islands / ports? #JapanTravel #DiscoverJapan #JapanTravel #Tojinbo #東尋坊 #Amanohashidate #天橋立 #OkiIslands #隠岐諸島 #Yobuko #呼子 #Fukui #Kyoto #Shimane #Saga

Okay, I think I've found my favorite little town in Japan so far🌚 — traveler post in Fukui Prefecture

Okay, I think I've found my favorite little town in Japan so far🌚

#itinerarycheck Just got back from my trip to Kanazawa and Fukui, and I'm still buzzing with energy! Spent 4 nights in Kanazawa, which is called the "Little Kyoto" btw. I explored pretty much all of Kanazawa - gorgeous views, not many tourists, and so much yummy food. Also checked out the even more off-the-beaten-path Fukui. Japan's famous dojo and the "one of the world's top three" dinosaur museum are both there. So I put together this "5 Days 4 Nights Kanazawa + Fukui" slow travel guide for you guys. Pics ❶-❸ The Higashi-chaya Street has been around since the Edo period and it's not crowded at all, perfect for snapping some pics. The Higashi-chaya Street is just across the bridge and has tons of cute little shops with great food and stuff to see. Pics ❹-❻ Eihei-ji Temple in Fukui has stood strong for over 700 years. Fun fact: Steve Jobs almost became a monk here... You can totally feel the good vibes there. Pics ❺-❻ Ishiura Shrine is this adorable dog shrine that's super welcoming. Right across from it is the Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art - basically a perfect spot for introverts to recharge. Pic ❾ Every day in Kanazawa felt like I was walking right into a manga scene. Pics ❿-⓫ The corridors at Eihei-ji Temple are gorgeous. On the way there, both sides of the road are lined with souvenir shops. Got a bottle of mackerel miso and it was so good. Pic ⓬ Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum. You'll need to take a train from Fukui Station to Katsuyama Station, then hop on a bus. I'm obsessed with this little train~ Pics ⓭-⓯ This dinosaur museum is one of the world's top three. As a huge dinosaur fan, I had the best time, and you can even try digging for fossils yourself. Pic ⓰ Fukui Station has all these cute dinosaur installations. Pic ⓱ There are tons of super well-preserved dinosaur fossils, and you can actually touch them! Pic ⓲ Oh, and I almost forgot - don't miss the limited-edition pudding by the Eihei-ji bus stop. It's seriously amazing. 🗺️ My Route d1: 【Kanazawa】Kanezawa Gate → Omicho Market → Higashi-chaya Street → Higashi-chaya Street d2: 【Kanazawa】Nagamachi Samurai Residence Ruins → Oyama Shrine → Kanazawa Castle Park → Kenrokuen Garden → Ishiura Shrine → Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art d3: 【Fukui】Eihei-ji Temple d4: 【Fukui】Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum 🔖 Helpful Tips 1️⃣ Keep an eye on the train schedules and plan your time well, 'cause if you miss one, you'll be waiting forever. ① Eihei-ji Temple: Just get off at Fukui Station and hop on the bus right from Platform 1. ② Dinosaur Museum: Once you're out of the station, look for the dinosaur in Pic 16 to get in and grab your tickets. 2️⃣ If you're coming to Kanazawa from Osaka/Tokyo by JR, definitely get the Hokuriku Area Pass. It covers the Shinkansen from Kanazawa to Fukui and it's such a steal! 🏨 Where to Stay: ① If you're not into switching hotels (like me), I'd suggest staying near Kanazawa Station or Omicho Market. I took the Shinkansen to Fukui for two days straight, which was super convenient. ② If you do switch to Fukui, there are plenty of spots to see, but they're pretty spread out. If you want to really dive deep into the area, I'd recommend staying in Fukui after you're done with Kanazawa. . #japan #kanazawa #japantravel #nichetraveldestinationsons #tokyosurroundingtourss #deeptravelinjapan #japannichetravel #themeaningofliveimageses #itsliveanditslife #travelguide #travelmillionfanssupportproportpro... #traveleditorialdepartmenttment #travelrecord

Just Like a Period Anime... The Enchanting Serenity of Kumagawa-juku ⛩️ — traveler post in Fukui Prefecture

Just Like a Period Anime... The Enchanting Serenity of Kumagawa-juku ⛩️

Honestly, when Kyoto starts feeling like a massive school playground (as an art teacher, I love teens, but on vacation? Please, no!), you just have to escape. That’s how I ended up in Fukui Prefecture at Kumagawa-juku. And wow... the visual impact. Honestly, I felt like I’d stepped through the screen and landed right in the middle of a *Demon Slayer* set or a samurai film. 🎬 It’s a former post town from the Edo period, stretching out just over a kilometer and nestled between the mountains. Back in the day, it was part of the "Mackerel Road" (Saba Kaido), used to supply Kyoto with fresh fish. Today? It’s absolutely peaceful, almost surreal. There was literally no one there! I felt almost privileged—even a little shy about making too much noise with my footsteps. 🤫 All you can hear is the murmur of the water flowing through the Maegawa, the small canal running alongside these stunning historic wooden houses. As someone obsessed with aesthetics, I spent ages examining every detail: the facades, the wooden lattice doors, and the tiny stone bridges crossing the stream in front of every house. It’s so visually striking; the contrast between the dark wood and the surrounding nature is flawless. I almost pulled out my sketchbook! 🎨 As for the food, you have to try the local specialty: saba-zushi (pressed mackerel sushi). It’s incredibly flavorful. For dessert, I tried Kumagawa Kuzu, a treat made from kuzu starch. It’s translucent with such a poetic texture. 🍣 A quick survival tip if you decide to wander here: arrive by late morning. Life ends early in these parts, and most restaurants close around 4 PM! Also, bring cash. In traditional Japan, small local shops only take coins and bills. 💴 Basically, if you’re looking for a place frozen in time, far from the crowds, with that mystical vibe of old-school anime, head to Kumagawa-juku. It’s a truly magical escape. ✨

Summer Romantic Destinations Collection

Summer is the perfect time for a spontaneous, fresh Japanese-style trip with your significant other! 🌈 This "skewer-style" trip with my girlfriend Vira was absolutely amazing, covering everything from sunflower fields to seaside stations, from railway ruins to strawberry farms, capturing all the hidden gems of Japan~ 🌻【Shrine Sunflower Field Blast】 📍Muko Shrine (Muko City, Kyoto Prefecture) The summer-only sunflower fields are made for Instagram! The golden blooms from July to August are stunning. We recommend wearing a light-colored dress with a straw hat. The shrine’s goshuin book even has an exclusive, super cute design. 🌊【Must-Visit Beach Stations】 1️⃣ JR Shioya Station (Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture) Known as the "station closest to the sea," you can see Awaji Island right from the platform! Best to visit at sunset. There’s a seaside café inside the station that’s super romantic. 2️⃣ Old Noto Railway Iida Station Ruins (Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture) The abandoned tracks stretch straight into the Sea of Japan, accompanied by the soothing sound of shell wind chimes—super healing. 🚞【Railway Enthusiast’s Paradise】 1️⃣ Railway Museum (Saitama City) Limited edition train models plus real trains on display. Even my girlfriend said it was more fun than she expected! In front of the station is a popular local whale-shaped monument. Don’t forget to buy Kushimoto taiyaki as a souvenir. 🍓【Sweet Picking Experience】 Miura Strawberry Farm (Bungo-ono City, Oita Prefecture) You don’t have to go to Hokkaido to enjoy strawberry picking! June to July is the last picking season. Be sure to try the farm’s homemade strawberry daifuku. 📸【Top Photo Spots】 ➡️ Tottori Sand Dunes: Recommended to shoot at dawn or dusk for a magical contrast between desert and sea. ➡️ Ikema Bridge: A must-visit jellyfish sea viewpoint on Miyako Island, with a dedicated photo platform on the bridge. ➡️ HANAHASU Park: A lotus flower secret spot in Fukui Prefecture, where you can see rare three-colored lotuses in July. 💡Useful Tips ✅ JR West Pass is super handy; it covers basically all these stations. ✅ WILD Beach has shower facilities (inside Kisarazu Seaside Park). ✅ Remember to bring sunscreen spray in summer; sand dunes and beaches are especially easy to get sunburned. ✅ Some farms require reservations (like the strawberry farm). Finally, a recommendation for the hidden gem hotel we stayed at: Osaka Karakusa Select Hotel. Super convenient transportation and even a laundry room! Before heading back, we also stopped by Nagai Botanical Garden’s teamLab exhibition. The light and flower sea was the perfect ending to this trip!
