Three-ish Days in Delhi | History, Chaos, Markets and Street Food
Delhi was never really a standalone trip for us. We ended up visiting the city twice, once during our trip to Agra and again while exploring Rajasthan (Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur). Altogether, we spent around three days in Delhi, with most of our time dedicated to exploring Old Delhi. Delhi is an interesting city. It is crowded, noisy, chaotic and sometimes a little overwhelming. But at the same time, there is so much history, architecture, food and everyday life happening around you. Personally, I found the contrast between Old Delhi and the more modern parts of the city quite fascinating. Exploring the Historical Side of Delhi We visited six historical landmarks during our time there. 1. Qutub Minar One of Delhi's most recognisable landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Construction began in the late 12th century, and the minaret stands about 73 metres tall. The intricate carvings on the red sandstone are impressive, and there are several other historical structures within the complex. We spent some time walking around and appreciating the architecture. 2. Jama Masjid Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century, Jama Masjid is one of India's largest mosques. The architecture is beautiful, but what I found equally interesting was the neighbourhood surrounding it. The narrow streets, food stalls, small shops, cycle rickshaws and constant movement of people give the area a character of its own. It is busy and chaotic, but if you want to experience the atmosphere of Old Delhi, this is definitely one of the places to visit. 3. Red Fort Another magnificent structure commissioned by Shah Jahan. The massive red sandstone walls are impressive, and the fort was once the main residence of the Mughal emperors. Having visited several Mughal forts and palaces across India, I always find it interesting to see how their architecture differs from one another. Delhi's Red Fort is certainly an important part of that history. 4. Humayun's Tomb This was one of my favourite historical sites in Delhi. Built in the 16th century, Humayun's Tomb is considered an architectural predecessor to the Taj Mahal. The combination of red sandstone, white marble, symmetrical gardens and beautiful arches makes the entire complex visually appealing. I particularly liked how spacious and well-planned the surroundings were. It is the kind of place where you can simply walk around and appreciate the architecture without feeling the need to rush. 5. Nizamuddin Dargah We also visited the shrine of the famous Sufi saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. Getting there involves walking through narrow, busy lanes lined with small shops. The atmosphere around the shrine is quite different from the other places we visited. The dargah is particularly known for its long tradition of Sufi music and qawwali. Our Two Days in Udaipur, Rajasthan | The City of Lakes
Udaipur, popularly known as the City of Lakes, was another stop on our Rajasthan trip. We spent two days exploring its beautiful palaces, lakes, old streets, local markets and, of course, trying Rajasthani food. Here is how we spent our time and a few personal recommendations. Day 1: City Palace, Lake Pichola and Gangaur Ghat 1. City Palace (Must Visit): This was definitely one of the highlights of Udaipur. Built over several centuries by the rulers of Mewar, the palace is a beautiful combination of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The intricate details, courtyards, balconies and views of Lake Pichola were impressive. I would highly recommend visiting. 2. Lake Pichola: One of the main attractions of Udaipur. We explored the lake and its surroundings, and I would recommend taking a boat ride just before sunset. The views of the palaces, surrounding hills and city from the water are beautiful. 3. Jagmandir Island Palace: Located on an island in Lake Pichola, this historic palace once provided refuge to Prince Khurram, who later became Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. You can visit it by boat, and it is worth including in your Lake Pichola trip. 4. Gangaur Ghat: This historic ghat is named after the Gangaur festival, traditionally celebrated in Rajasthan. We spent our evening here, sitting by the lake, enjoying some snacks and coffee while watching the surroundings. Sometimes simply sitting somewhere and enjoying the atmosphere is better than rushing from one attraction to another. Day 2: Exploring More of Udaipur 1. Chand Pole: One of the historic gateways to Udaipur's old city. We explored the surrounding streets and enjoyed seeing the everyday life of the locals. 2. Monsoon Palace (Sajjangarh Palace): Built in the 19th century by Maharana Sajjan Singh, this palace sits on a hill overlooking Udaipur. It was originally intended as an astronomical centre and later associated with observing monsoon clouds. The elevated location offers panoramic views of the city and surrounding lakes. However, personally, we were not particularly impressed. The views were nice, but the overall experience did not quite meet our expectations. 3. Saheliyon Ki Bari: An 18th-century garden built for the royal ladies of Mewar. It has beautiful fountains, marble structures and landscaped gardens. It is definitely a pleasant place, but again, it was not particularly memorable for us. This is purely our personal opinion. 4. Gangaur Ghat: We liked the atmosphere so much that we returned for another visit on our second day. 5. Bagore Ki Haveli: An 18th-century mansion located near Gangaur Ghat, now functioning as a museum showcasing royal artefacts and traditional Rajasthani culture. It is also famous for the evening Dharohar Folk Dance, featuring traditional Rajasthani performances. Unfortunately, the show was temporarily suspended for a few days during our visit, so we missed it. 6. Bapu Bazar: We spent some time exploring the local market, shopping and trying sweets

For first-time visitors, it is like a fantasy. ✅Environment The design tone is set by the Hikar tents in the drop-off area, the hand-carved sandstone pillars in the courtyard, the court-style furniture, and the marble floor. Inside the palace, from the floor to the ceiling, from wood to marble, from patterns to weaving, everything is elegant. Guests can feel the prosperity and style of the old world Rajput royal family in traditional inlay craftsmanship, Thikri art, and complicated carving craftsmanship. Jagdish Temple is one of the finest architectural wonders of the Mewar Dynasty. Jagdish Temple showcases the Indo-Aryan style of architecture. The temple was built keeping in mind the rules of Vastu Shastra, the Hindu science of architecture. The three-storeyed temple is built on a high platform and features magnificent suspended pillars, huge airy halls and painted walls adorned with bright colours and intricate ceilings. Two huge stone elephant statues are placed at the entrance to welcome the visitors.
