Colorado Plateau, USA 🏜️ The Colorado Plateau is one of the most spectacular landscapes in the American Southwest, covering parts of Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. It is famous for its enormous red-rock formations, deep canyons, mesas, arches, and desert landscapes. 🌄 Highlights · Grand Canyon, Arizona – one of the world’s most famous river-carved canyons. · Monument Valley, Arizona/Utah – iconic sandstone buttes and mesas. · Antelope Canyon, Arizona – narrow sandstone slot canyon with dramatic light beams. · Horseshoe Bend, Arizona – spectacular bend of the Colorado River. · Bryce Canyon, Utah – famous for its orange-red hoodoos. · Zion National Park, Utah – towering sandstone cliffs and dramatic valleys. · Arches National Park, Utah – hundreds of natural sandstone arches. · Canyonlands National Park, Utah – vast canyons, mesas and remote desert scenery. · Capitol Reef, Utah – colorful cliffs, domes and geological formations. 🧭 Why visit? The plateau is especially fascinating because its landscape exposes millions of years of geological history. Different layers of sandstone, limestone and other rocks create the striking red, orange, cream and brown colors seen throughout the region. Best time: April–May and September–October for generally more comfortable temperatures. Summer can be extremely hot, particularly in lower-elevation desert areas.
