📍 Must-Visit Areas in Koh Samui

Koh Samui isn't just one big, uniform beach. Far from it! Every corner of the island has its own unique character and vibe. From the hustle and bustle of the main beaches to the quiet little coves, here’s where to lay your towel!

Chaweng: the vibrant heart of Koh Samui

Chaweng: the vibrant heart of Koh Samui

Chaweng is the iconic beach of Koh Samui. Seven kilometres of white sand (yes, you read that right!), crystal-clear water, and non-stop action from morning till night. If you're looking for a lively beach, you've come to the right place! Jet-skiing, paddleboarding, parasailing... every water sport imaginable is waiting for you.

As evening falls, Chaweng reveals a completely different side. Beach bars light up, the music picks up, and the terraces fill up. When it comes to food, you're spoilt for choice: from little street stalls whipping up a pad Thai for just a few pounds, to fine-dining restaurants with stunning sea views.

Lamai: the laid-back charm of the south

Lamai: the laid-back charm of the south

Lamai is often affectionately known as Chaweng's charming little sister. It's a bit more laid-back, with fewer crowds, offering a wonderfully relaxed vibe, yet still brimming with a fantastic array of activities just waiting to be discovered!

The atmosphere is much more laid-back, with an almost hippie vibe in places. Coconut palms fringe a stunning beach dotted with large boulders, giving the landscape a wonderfully wild feel.

What's more, don't miss the famous Hin Ta and Hin Yai rocks (also known as Grandfather and Grandmother). Their... shall we say "suggestive" shapes certainly give visitors a bit of a giggle!

📌 Lamai: you’ll find authentic Thai charm with little seafood restaurants right on the water’s edge, alongside trendy bars and mini-markets. For the adventurers, it’s the perfect starting point for trekking up to the Na Muang waterfalls, which are just a fifteen-minute scooter ride away.

Bophut and Fisherman's Village: Authenticity and traditional charm

Bophut and Fisherman's Village: Authenticity and traditional charm

You’re bound to fall in love with Bophut and its Fisherman's Village! It’s like stepping back in time. The old wooden fishermen's houses have been transformed into local boutiques, trendy restaurants and chic cafes. Yet, the spirit of the fishing village remains perfectly intact to this day!

Bophut Beach? Peaceful, family-friendly and quite simply perfect for a swim or a sunset stroll.

📌 Trip.com recommends: Friday night is the highlight of the week in Bophut! The Walking Street Market takes over the entire main street, with mouth-watering local street food stalls, handmade crafts, and street performances featuring traditional dances... The atmosphere is unique and incredibly welcoming, and you'll get to meet plenty of locals.

Mae Nam and Choeng Mon: tranquillity and understated luxury

Mae Nam and Choeng Mon: tranquillity and understated luxury

Time to head to the more remote and secluded spots of Koh Samui! Mae Nam, in the north, is a long beach that's almost deserted. In a similar vein, Choeng Mon is an absolute must-visit! This little horseshoe-shaped bay is a true natural paradise, and some even consider it the most beautiful beach on Koh Samui.

These two spots are perfect if you really want to switch off, while staying just twenty minutes away from the main action.

Trip.com Tip: The coral reefs just offshore are perfect for snorkelling, so there’s no need to take a boat! If you’re looking to go scuba diving, you’ll need to venture a little further out.

You can only get here by bike or taxi, there is no entertainment in the hotel itself, only for a couple of nights, I would not recommend taking it for many days! There is nowhere to walk around the territory, although according to the description and reviews it seems that there is) The building itself is a little outdated, the room seems clean, but there is a smell of dampness, I was stuffy and uncomfortable sleeping there! At 6 or 7 p.m the staff wanted to break into our room with cleaning, and the staff opened the door while we were in the room, it is very strange! In the evening the monkeys come, close the balcony, we liked them, no complaints) The coolest thing is the hotel restaurant, the view and staff are 100% perfect!

Thank you so much to the hotel team for upgrading my room! I’m so bummed I only had 14 hours to enjoy it but I did make the most out of it. I’m so glad I picked this hotel for my overnight transit. Exceeds my expectations in all aspect - comfort, the whole ambience and vibe, and the warm and friendly staff. And major plus point is the location. Walking distance to cafes, restaurant and Desa Potato Head. Will 100% stay here again next time!

Jimbaran Bali|14.95km from city centre
Before coming here, I read a lot of reviews and was a bit conflicted, but after arriving, I realized this is truly the only correct choice for Jimbaran Beach – yes, the *only* one. It's a bit humid during the rainy season, which is understandable. The service is attentive and up to five-star standards. It's quite suitable for families; there's plenty of space for elderly family members to stroll after dinner, I'd estimate a full circuit is nearly 2 kilometers. There's a kids' club to look after your children, and for adults, there are drinks, entertainment, a gym, and a swimming pool – all readily available and generally up to par. The only drawback is that the surrounding commercial area is not as developed as Kuta, so it's more suited for relaxing within the hotel. Also, the hotel is simply huge; for our family, it meant getting lost repeatedly, every single day! Oh, and the hotel is right on the beach, which is clean and offers stunning sunset views. All in all, highly recommended.

Exceeded all expectations! The hotel has a semi-open design, giving it a really chill and convenient vibe. There are so many famous Ubud restaurants and small shops nearby, and Pison is right next door. It's super easy to get to ATV tours, spas, and the zoo. The biggest surprise was when the handsome, braces-wearing guy at the hotel upgraded us to Alaya Suites, a new property just a few minutes walk from the original Alaya. The new hotel is fantastic, with exceptional service and delicious, freshly prepared breakfasts! We stayed at Potato Head, Anantara, and Bulgari during our trip to Bali, but considering the overall value for money, Alaya costs less than half and offers a unique experience. I would definitely stay at Alaya again next time I'm in Bali. Huge thanks to the hotel and staff for their warm hospitality.

The complex & room is nice, service is great. Unfortunately, the bedding is very itchy, we suspect some bed bugs or mites, but we dont really see the bugs. Both of us felt something “crawling” on our skin at late night in the middle of sleep. Also, there’s a basketball hoop just outside the room, the sound of dribbling ball is very annoying during nap and in the morning. We complained about the itchyness and got upgraded to a nicer room the next day plus pizza voucher, which is very much appreciated. But… the room is near a neighboor who has roosters… so again we got bothered by sounds. Day and night.

It is 4 star hotel but the stay that I had was not up to that par. Our toilet seat has stain, and the shower room is smelly when we used the shower. The water spray is way too strong that we have to call them to fix on it. The sound proof is not good, you can hear people around you and the hotel staff did not come and warn them to lower the noise. They also didn’t have bell boy who can assist, probably work on shift hour.  Although I have a great service with them for room service, however the cleanlines and the noise experience that I had, made me not to come back to this hotel again.

As a five-star hotel, it's not perfect, but given the great price, it's acceptable. The beach is just a few steps from the hotel's pool, and it seems to be a public one, as there's a boardwalk along the entire waterfront, perfect for a stroll. There are plenty of lounge chairs by the sea, and the sand is nice. However, the beach isn't ideal for swimming, though you can still take a dip if you want to.

Ah, ”Eden Hotel” in Bali! It seems you're likely referring to one of the Grandmas Plus Hotels in Bali, specifically Grandmas Plus Hotel Seminyak or Grandmas Plus Hotel Airport. They are popular budget-friendly options in Bali. To give you a good review, I can summarize what people generally say about them, but if you stayed at a specific Grandmas Plus Hotel, let me know which one (e.g., Seminyak, Airport, Legian), and I can tailor the review even more. Here's a general overview of what people often say about Grandmas Plus Hotels in Bali, combining common feedback: Grandmas Plus Hotels, Bali (General Review) Overall Impression: Generally, Grandmas Plus Hotels are well-regarded as excellent value-for-money options, especially for budget travelers, solo travelers, and those looking for a convenient location. They often receive high ratings for their service and cleanliness. What people like most: * Excellent Location: This is a consistent highlight. * Seminyak: Very close to Seminyak Beach (often cited as a 5-minute walk) and within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, and bars. This makes it ideal for those wanting to explore the vibrant Seminyak area. * Airport: Convenient for early flights or quick stopovers due to its proximity to the airport. * Friendly and Helpful Staff: Many guests praise the staff for being amicable, attentive, and going out of their way to ensure a comfortable stay. They often mention the staff's smiles and willingness to help. * Cleanliness: The rooms and common areas are consistently described as sparkling clean and well-maintained. * Value for Money: Guests frequently mention that the price paid for the amenities and location is a great deal. * Breakfast: Often receives positive remarks for being good, and sometimes even offering a ”different gourmet food selection” daily. * Amenities: While generally basic, they offer essential amenities. Some locations have a pool, and many have a connected restaurant/bar. In-house spas are also mentioned as a plus. * Comfort Rooms (after checkout): Some hotels in the chain offer a ”comfort room” which is a nice touch for guests with later flights. What people like least (or areas for improvement): * Room Size: A very common comment is that the rooms can be ”compact,” ”small,” or ”cramped,” especially for families. While well-designed and clean, they might feel a bit tight for some. * Noise: Depending on the room location, street noise, music, or bar noises can be audible, especially in Seminyak, which is a lively area. * Bathroom Ventilation/Issues: Some reviews mention a lack of exhaust fans in bathrooms, or occasional issues like drainage smells or spots on tiles. * Pool Size/Quality: For the Seminyak location, the pool is sometimes described as ”tiny” or ”very poor” and can get crowded. * Limited Amenities: While good for the price, some guests might miss certain features like mini-fridges or electric kettles in the rooms (though free mineral water is usually provided). Would I recommend this hotel? Based on common reviews, yes, I would recommend Grandmas Plus Hotels, especially if you are: * A budget-conscious traveler. * Looking for a hotel with an excellent, central location (Seminyak) or close to the airport. * Prioritizing friendly service and cleanliness over spacious rooms or extensive luxury amenities. * Traveling solo or as a couple (larger groups or families might find rooms a bit small). They are often described as a great base for exploring Bali, offering a comfortable and practical stay without a hefty price tag.

Kuta Bali|9.39km from city centre
This hotel is located in a bustling area of Kuta, just over a ten-minute drive from the airport. The buildings are arranged around a spacious and beautiful courtyard with three pools, perfect for Western vacationers. The breakfast at the restaurant is good. The rooms are spacious, and the bathrooms are enormous. The hotel offers a peaceful retreat despite being in a lively area, and the price is reasonable. The front desk and room service staff are proactive and friendly. There are numerous dining and shopping options right outside the hotel.

We had such a wonderful stay at D’Primahotel in Seminyak! 🌴✨ The breakfast buffet was absolutely delicious, with plenty of options to start the day right. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and helpful suggestions. Also, we can request for an early breakfast box which is a plus especially if you need to go out early. The location is perfect — just minutes away from the beach and surrounded by great restaurants, making it easy to explore the vibrant Seminyak area. Whether you’re here to relax or enjoy the local food scene, this hotel makes it all effortless. One small area for improvement would be the bathroom cleanliness, especially the toilet bowl, which could use a deeper clean. Overall, I’d still highly recommend this hotel for its comfort, convenience, and warm hospitality in Bali! 🌺

The hotel location is excellent, just a stroll to Mall Galeria. The breakfast is limited and average, not many options. The staff are helpful including the security and parking staff. Unfortunately the hotel was on renovations during my visit, but the hotel tried to minimize the impact by placing my room as far as posible from the noise. Stayed for about 12 hours due to an early morning flight. Discovery Shopping Mall and Waterbom are within walking distance, making it an area where you can enjoy various activities. There’s also a convenience store nearby where I was able to buy beers. The room was spacious and relaxing. The location is quite convenient, with shopping malls within walking distance, and a convenience store, currency exchange, and numerous spas downstairs. Most importantly, it's close to the airport. The service is excellent. The hotel offers a complimentary airport shuttle that you can book in advance, and it only takes about 10 minutes to get there. For early morning flights, they can even prepare a to-go breakfast for you (I got a sandwich and a fruit platter, and the portions were very generous). I booked a room with breakfast included, and the breakfast selection was quite diverse. Besides Western options, there were also Indian specialties. Eggs were made to order by the staff right at your table, and they tasted good. The rooftop infinity pool is very pleasant; it's not crowded, and the water is clean. There's also a small bar by the pool, which makes for a very relaxing experience.

Nusa Dua Bali|19.15km from city centre
Facilities: The infrastructure is absolutely top-notch, meeting ultra-five-star standards. The in-room facilities are exquisite and high-end, especially the toothbrush and toothpaste, which were the most comfortable I've ever used, even better than Ayana Resort. The pool water temperature is constant year-round (although Bali is a tropical region where low temperatures aren't an issue, there are times when it can be a bit chilly at 20+ degrees Celsius). Overall, the pool is very comfortable. The kids' club is decent, but the beach is just average. Cleanliness: The cleanliness is acceptable and meets the five-star standard. Environment: The environment is a magnificent, cliff-palace style, grand and unique, perfect for photos! Service: This is where I have to complain. As an ultra-five-star hotel, compared to Ayana in Bali and Wana Belle in Koh Samui where I've stayed before, it's just... I'm not talking about service attitude; in Bali, where world-class hotels converge, any hotel costing over 500 RMB will have good service. What I'm referring to is practical, convenient service for guests. For example, if you're hungry, there should be something to eat (I'm not talking about midnight, but normal dining hours). Here, you must make reservations for dining. If you don't book, there's no table. You constantly have to think about when you're going to eat. If you're late or forget, it's too late, you won't get to eat, you'll go hungry, or have to bother going out to find food. I'm on vacation to relax and be spontaneous. You can say there aren't many good tables, but you need to provide sufficient dining options. Although the hotel has 470 rooms and a large flow of guests, at Ayana, which has nearly 1000 rooms in its entire resort complex, not counting the villa area, I could always go and eat whenever I wanted, as long as it wasn't a popular restaurant like the Rock Bar. At least you were guaranteed not to go hungry if you wanted to eat. Second point! Ayana's app service is truly fantastic. With such a large guest flow, they manage to provide real-time online responses, which is extremely friendly for guests who don't speak the local language. The app also has a map, shuttle bus times, reservations, and so much more, excellent! And Wana Belle, where I stayed before, goes without saying; considering the price point, the service is one-on-one. Mainland guests even get added on WeChat for one-on-one Chinese customer service, which is simply the best! I came to this Kempinski with extremely high expectations and left disappointed. I had booked for four nights but only stayed one. The inability to get a reservation for food wasn't even the final straw. I was having breakfast with my 3-year-old son, and the staff didn't proactively offer children's tableware. As a result, when my son bit into his milk glass (which had thin walls), it shattered in his mouth. My child, not understanding, chewed on it, and some fragments were swallowed (to be honest, I also had no experience with such a situation and will always proactively ask for children's tableware in the future. Thankfully, he was fine in the end). The hotel doctor also came to see him and apologized, but what's the use? It ruined my mood. Changing hotels, checking out, selecting a new hotel, and checking in – it truly wasted a precious day of my vacation. It was so disappointing. If you can't provide this level of service, then don't take on so many rooms. You've taken on such a large guest flow, and you charge such high prices, yet basic dining isn't guaranteed. If you can make guests go hungry, and can't meet this most basic need, then don't talk about being a good hotel, let alone a 5-star one! All of the above are objective comments, both good and bad. In short, it doesn't suit my vacation needs.

We had a lovely 4 nights stay at Kenran Resort in Ubud. The rooms were spacious, clean, and beautifully designed with a calming atmosphere. The staff were consistently warm, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit. The pool is a highlight — stunning views and a perfect place to unwind. The resort also offers two restaurants on-site, which was convenient. Breakfast was decent, though we felt it could use a bit more variety. One thing to note: the location is a bit far from central Ubud, and local Gojek drivers often hesitate to come here. This means relying on the hotel's transport service, which comes at a premium. On the first day we arrived at the hotel, our child went into the swimming pool and cut his foot. The hotel called a doctor, who dressed the wound and prescribed antibiotics. However, due to the hotel’s negligence, we had to spend the first week taking care of our child and were unable to even leave the hotel, which caused us significant inconvenience and loss. We are a family of two adults, kids aged 16, 12, 6, and 4. We enjoyed a great stay. Highlights were the kids pool foam party, the huge pool area and the rooms. Tips for those staying here: 1. Aim to get to breakfast before 8 am as it starts to fill up after then. 2. Noon your cabana early. They’re not expensive but don’t just book it for the sake of holding onto it. We weren’t able to use any during our stay as we were a bit slow off the mark to book one and there were some that remained unused but booked out. 3. The food is excellent. You cannot miss the chocolate hour. There is also a small shopping area nearby. For amenities and essentials you will need to walk down the road to one of the convenience stores. 4. Make sure the kids see the bird display that sometime appears near the pool. These are parrots brought in by one of the local bird sanctuaries. There was the opportunity to have a photo with these birds. There was also an afternoon reptile display (boa constrictors, geckos etc) near the shopping area next to the hotel. 5. Download and use the Grab app. It’s like Uber for SE Asia.

The staff at the reception are very courteous and helpful notably one lady 'Ayu'. The restaurant or housekeeping is perhaps understaffed - I am not sure since we had to remind through the front desk that the plates and cutlery needed clean up after the room service was ordered. The aesthetics of the hotel are excellent but some maintenance in form of facelift is perhaps due. The property boosts beautiful swimming pools and gentle soothing tropical traditional music offering a very warm welcoming feeling. The family room which we opted for is large and spacious with large 2 single beds, a large king bed and a nice private jacuzzi. The restaurant has a decent choice of western and asian breakfast options with decent choice for vegetarians too. The hotel had kept ready breakfast boxes upon our request for us at 5:30 am since we had an early morning flight to catch. We felt this is a good sign of hospitality which other bigger brand hotels should also follow in other destinations.

Check in was smooth. Staffs were friendly. Hotel is huge, they have 3 blocks. I got the far end of the block which was a little bit away from the reception and the restaurants and the open space for smoking. In 2 circumstances, i walked up to the room and the door card could not work. This happened in 2 different nights. I had to walk down and got it reset, but the staffs didnt bother to apologise for this. The first time it happened I was okay, but the second time it happened, I got pissed off, because it was a long walk from the room to the reception. If you order food delivery, it will be a long walk to take your food at the reception. If you got the rooms at the reception level, I'm sure it will be a great experience like the first time I was there in the Junior Suite, but this time it was not as pleasant. Thumbs up though for the housekeeping, as the found out I had many shirts lying on the sofa, they brought a small clothes rack and hung my shirts.

This is my second time at Ayana. It's been eight years since my last stay, and the room rates have significantly increased. However, the bedding is honestly the worst I've encountered in a five-star hotel recently. It felt noticeably old; the duvet inside was a grayish-black, and the sheets even had holes and stains on the edges. On the bright side, the hotel app is excellent; you can directly contact the concierge for anything you need. While the hotel is incredibly vast, there are just too many tourists, which really diminished the vacation vibe. Compared to the Kempinski where I stayed for the past two days, I much preferred the Kempinski. Also, the food and everything else at the hotel are very expensive, almost on par with Singapore prices. It feels like they're shamelessly raising prices just because they're a popular 'influencer' hotel.

This isn’t my first time stay in Bintang Bali, had been many times everytime I came to Bali. IMHO, this is one of my top hotel to stay with when I was in Kuta area. Location is strategic, close to shopping malls, supermarkets, restaurants, and the staff also very helpful. We arrived 2 hours earlier and the receptionist tried her best to accomodate earlier checked in. Highly recommended.

Nusa Dua Bali|15.07km from city centre
Had a high hope with this resort. But are eventually let down because of their restaurants and steep activities price. It’s my second time in Sofitel, had a nice memory on the first time, so I suggested to my spouse for this resort. What I like about this resort is the huge pools and the close proximity to the beach. Room is nice and bed is extra comfy. What I didn’t like is their Italian restaurant called Cucina, we had a very bad experience with their food, were food doesn’t reflect the standard of the resort. We were served a rotten grilled octopus, and a very cold grilled zucchini, all we rejected and ask the waiter to send it back to the kitchen. And the price of the foods are among the most expensive food I had in Bali. And the service is very low even when there are a lot empty table. We also had a lunch in their beach bar called Toya, again the price is very steep, yet the food that we received is sub standard, almost like the just reheated. We ordered a pizza, not only the dough looks pale, the topping doesn’t scream quality. It tasted ok and service was very fast, but it’s kinda questionable if a restaurant pizza came out very fast. The breakfast, which now charged twice the amount of last time I was there if you opted not to be included in the room, was mediocre. Some foods were ok like their noodle section and local and gluten free dessert, but the dim sum section was meh, and the most offending one is the pastry section. They served pastries that taste too yeasty that it became very unpleasant, croissants that is not crispy anymore, we it’s not the standard I was expected, and they are a French hotel company. And their resort activities are although I don’t expect to be without additional charges, but they are astronomical pricey. You better go up north to Tanjung Benoa with local service providers if you want to do some water sport activities. And if you want to visit spa, just go to many spas just outside the hotel area. It won’t have the on the beach spa, but they offer the same services.

🌊 Top 5 Activities and Landmarks in Koh Samui

While the beaches are undoubtedly a must-see in Koh Samui, the island is brimming with activities and sights you won't want to miss. We’ve handpicked the very best things to do during your stay:

Elephant Jungle Sanctuary: A magical and ethical encounter with elephants

Elephant Jungle Sanctuary

Elephant Jungle Sanctuary is the ultimate must-do in Koh Samui. Dedicated to animal welfare, there are no elephant rides here. Instead, you’ll get to spend real quality time with them—feeding them, learning their stories, and even bathing them in the river!

The activity lasts around half a day, and a Thai lunch is included. It’s the perfect choice for families. The guides will share everything there is to know about conservation efforts and why these species are endangered... It’s both educational and moving. All in all, it’s an experience you won’t forget in a hurry.

Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai): The island's iconic temple

Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai)

The Big Buddha? You can't miss it! This twelve-metre-high golden statue sits proudly on a small islet, and it's visible from miles around! Built in 1972, the temple attracts local pilgrims and tourists from all over the world alike.

Climb the steps (watch out, it’s a bit of a climb!) adorned with naga dragons. At the top, you’ll discover not only the main temple but also a breathtaking view over the entire north of the island and the sea as far as the eye can see.

📌Trip.com tip: remember to cover your shoulders and knees, as it's a place of worship!

Diving and snorkelling: explore the underwater wonders of the Gulf of Thailand

Diving in Koh Samui

As we've briefly mentioned, the waters around Koh Samui are simply perfect for scuba diving. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned diver, there are spots to suit every level.

The most famous spots? Sail Rock, Chumphon Pinnacle, and especially nearby Koh Tao, which is world-renowned for its truly exceptional reefs.

Underwater, it’s a non-stop spectacle: schools of multicoloured tropical fish, sea turtles gliding peacefully by, rays, and harmless reef sharks...

PADI dive centres are dotted all over the island, offering introductory dives for beginners, certification courses, and day trips to the very best spots. Even if you don't dive, snorkelling from beaches like Choeng Mon is well worth the trip.

Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park: An unforgettable nature escape

Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park

Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park is the one trip you simply can't miss! An archipelago of 42 pristine islands thirty kilometres north-west of Koh Samui. Limestone peaks rising from emerald waters, deserted beaches, hidden lagoons, and mysterious caves... in short, it’s a little slice of paradise on earth.

Most tours offer kayaking through sea caves, a hike to a viewpoint with a 360° view of the entire archipelago, a visit to the emerald lagoon hidden inside an island, and of course, snorkelling in crystal-clear waters.

The park is also home to plenty of wildlife: dolphins, sea turtles, pythons, tropical birds... Thai lunch is usually served on the boat or, if you're lucky, on a deserted beach.

Spa and wellness: Thai-style relaxation

Spa and wellness

Koh Samui is also a true sanctuary of well-being. The island is brimming with spas, from little beachside massage parlours (at less than £10 an hour, it’s an absolute steal!) to five-star luxury spas in dreamy settings. Traditional Thai massage is even UNESCO-listed!

Many centres offer comprehensive programmes: sunrise yoga, meditation, detox cures, and Ayurvedic treatments... Some spas boast direct sea views, while others are tucked away in the jungle for total immersion.

☀️ Best Time to Visit Koh Samui

Koh Samui boasts a unique tropical climate that’s completely different from the rest of Thailand! Thanks to its geographical position, the island is sheltered from the southwest monsoons, meaning its weather patterns are actually the reverse of Phuket's. Here’s everything you need to know:

🚤 Day Trips from Koh Samui

Koh Samui also makes a fantastic strategic base for exploring the neighbouring islands, which are every bit as stunning! Here are our three favourite destinations for day trips:

Samui Island: Pink dolphins, snorkelling and Pig Island

Samui Island: Pink dolphins, snorkelling and Pig Island

The Samui Island tour is one of the most complete day trips you can take from Koh Samui.

You’ll leave in the morning for a fun day out at sea. The tour includes pink dolphin watching, snorkelling in clear waters around Dan Island, and a stop at Pig Island, where pigs roam and swim along the beach.

Lunch is provided either on the boat or on a quiet beach, depending on the tour, and hotel transfers are included. It’s an ideal choice if you want to see and do a lot in just one day.

📌 Practical information:
Transport: Boat with hotel transfers included
Highlights: pink dolphins, snorkelling, Dan Island (Pig Island), lunch included

Koh Phangan: Temples, wild jungle and the legendary Full Moon Party

Koh Phangan: Temples, wild jungle and the legendary Full Moon Party

Koh Phangan is the more bohemian and lively big sister of Koh Samui. It’s world-famous for the Full Moon Party, but there’s much more to enjoy. Just 30–45 minutes by ferry, this less developed island has kept a relaxed, hippie feel and plenty of natural beauty.

📌 Practical information:

  • Journey time: 30–45 minutes by ferry from Thong Sala Pier
  • Transport: Hourly ferries (Lomprayah or Seatran), around 200–400 baht one way
  • Must-sees: Phaeng Waterfall, the wild beaches of Bottle Beach and Haad Yao (boat access only), jungle temples in the mountains, yoga classes, cool night markets, and of course the Full Moon Party if it matches your dates 🌕

Koh Tao: The ultimate scuba diving paradise

Koh Tao: The ultimate scuba diving paradise

Koh Tao (meaning “Turtle Island”) is widely seen as Thailand’s top diving destination. This small rocky island is just 1.5 hours from Koh Samui by speedboat (or 2.5 hours by ferry) and offers some of the best dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand, with clear water and rich marine life.

📌 Practical information:

  • Journey time: 1 hour 30 minutes by speedboat, or 2 hours 30 minutes by ferry
  • Transport: Lomprayah Catamaran or Seatran Discovery Ferry, about 600–800 baht one way
  • Highlights: famous dive spots like Sail Rock and Chumphon Pinnacle, beautiful beaches such as Sairee Beach, great snorkelling at Shark Bay, scenic viewpoints, and some of the cheapest PADI dive courses in the world

Koh Tao is an ideal place to get your Open Water Diver certification. With over 50 professional dive schools and excellent value, a full 4-day course costs around 8,000–10,000 baht (about £170–£215), compared with roughly £340–£510 in Europe. That’s why divers from all over the world come here to learn.
