Kuriftu Resort & Spa Lake Tana

Another amazing time at Kuriftu. Me and my daughter love it here. Always a fantastic service and experience with their Professional, polite staff, efficient service, beautiful pool and seating areas. Best hotel in Bahri Dar. Large, clean rooms, excellent restaurant and friendly, thorough staff. Spent three days here. Could have easily spent a week. Spa was wonderful. There masseuses knew their craft. Askal was a standout in the restaurant.

I'm always delighted to visit Kuriftu, its a place where i love to spend my weekends when I'm in Bahir Dar, its beautiful calm and in the heart of the city, the traditional Ethiopian cosine is tasty and just a little bit spicy, but my favorite thing to do while i visit is to watch the sunset over the lake, the staff is so polite and friendly, I'd definitely recommend visiting and staying since its where i spend most of my time in Bahir Dar

I had studied my higher education in there, so it has been my first go to and relax place, I spend most of by the lake view. It has an incredible view and the staff in general are so well educated in the hospitality service, way better than the staff's at Debrezeyit.

Luxury to a higher level. Friendliest staff in Ethiopia. View of the lake from a balcony with second bed and a fireplace!! Food for every taste. Swimming pool was gorgeous. Massages. And so much more. Arrange a short boat ride to see hippos on the Nile and exotic birds.

The location of this wonderful resort is absolutely breathtaking. Waking up in the morning and watching the sun rise over the horizon and the light dancing on the soft waves of Lake Tana is the perfect way to start your mornings, whether on vacation or just a weekend getaway. The breakfast buffet is varied and tasty and the food is quite lovely in general. The pool is clear and beautiful, very refreshing. Overall, one of my favorite places to go when visiting Bahir Dar. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful setting with an ample access to Lake Tana and it is also an ideal place if you want to take a boat ride to one of the island monasteries. Great meal & variety of options will be provided with a great professionals witj a smiling, friendly, respectful, attentive and hospitable waiting staffs. Therefore, from the time you go in till you go out of this place, You will be treated like a real king. Especially the F & B manager Mrs. Askal - unbelievable - she is one if a kind service industry asset. Thank you so much for making our (particularly my clients) stay as comfortable as it could ever get. Will definitely come back again.

Im giving this hotel 1 star. It went from bad to really bad. The staff were very courteous and I have to say they were very nice. Also, the food was decent. However, the hotel had plenty of mosquitoes inside and outside the room. The mosquito net in the room had plenty of gaps and the room itself had plenty of gaps at the doors and windows. The hallway leading to the bathroom had bits of mud that did not come from our shoes and the a/c was so noisy it kept us up all night. The main problem was the tour. I paid $130 for a lake tour of the monasteries and the nile but only got to see the monasteries as the boat was driven so slow that it took 1.5 hours just to go to and from the monasteries. The problem is i told the boatman that we needed to be back by 12pm as we will need to leave for a long drive and he said no problem, we will get back by that time. He reassured us that we will make it in time. We got back at almost 1230pm, 30 minutes late. And after i told him to cut the trip short and head back to the hotel. He wanted to take us to other places despite being told we needed to get back by 12. Clearly poor time management. If we listened to him, we would not have made it to our next destination in time. I complained to the front desk and all they said was sorry and did not even offer a partial refund as the monastery tour was only $90. Also, our luggage did not arrive with our flight and was left at the airport. We were waiting all night but they didnt inform us that the luggage wasnt going to arrive that night. It was only when i went to the front desk to ask for an update that they informed us that the luggage would not be there until the next day. We were waiting for nothing. The hotel and surrounding area is interesting and has so much potential but is poorly managed.

The hotel is by the lakeside and has a wonderful view of the lake, but it lacks proper management. First, the property is dirty. It can be cleaner but their standard of cleanliness is low. There are mosquitoes everywhere. Bahir Dar is a malaria endemic place and many people I personally know have gotten malaria from Bahir Dar. The hotel has mosquitoes everywhere. The room itself has gaps and the mosquito net doesn’t work. The AC also vibrates loudly every few minutes, but doesn’t get cold. We didn’t get any sleep at all. Second, we booked a tour through them. It was a 4-hour tour that cost $120 for 2 monasteries (not including entrance fees) and the Blue Nile. For some reason the boat was super slow and couldn’t go any faster, we were only able to visit the monasteries as we were running low on time. It took 1.5 hours to get somewhere that can be done in 5 mins. The boatman could not understand us and the hotel didn’t bother to explain to him either. Worst part was, the boat was filled with sand flies that bit me all over. They refused to refund! They can keep it! Lastly, Ethiopia Airlines lost our luggage and it came in the flight after us. We wanted to wait for it at the airport but the hotel driver that picked us up kept asking what time or how many more minutes so we left. When we got to the hotel, they said they’ll take care of it! They took their sweet time and didn’t leave immediately so the airport was closed by the time the driver got there! We got our luggages the next day and all our milk for the infant, diapers and insect repellant were there! Note, I slept under the mosquito net with a shirt on (since no luggage) and under sheets and still managed to get 4 mosquito bites. Breakfast was dark and dingy. Coffee was terrible. This place is overpriced for Ethiopia. We came from Mezena Lodge in Lalibela which is half the price and it was incredible. The only reason I feel bad for giving this review is the staff seem to be so nice and kind. They also have free airport transfers, albeit in a very dirty van, and complimentary massages. Overall, I felt that with the right management, it has the potential to be a great hotel. Sadly, we couldn’t wait to leave and will not be recommending. I really feel for the staff as I know they can do better under the right management.
