Centurion Hotel Ueno was a complete disappointment, falling short of basic hospitality standards. The deception started right at check-in: the room was explicitly advertised and booked as a ”Casual Double Bed,” but what we actually received was a cramped single bed. This blatant misrepresentation immediately compromised the comfort of our stay.

The lack of care extended into the bathroom, which was a major letdown. The sink and shower area were marred by very bad, visible marks that made the entire space feel neglected and unhygienic. For a hotel that positions itself in a convenient location like Ueno, the absolute disregard for accurate room descriptions and rigorous housekeeping is unacceptable.

A hidden gem in the city that's become my go-to healing haven! I could stay at this hotel countless times!

I stumbled upon this treasure on a business trip, and it immediately landed on my 'Priority Business Trip Hotels' list 📝 I absolutely have to rave about it!

As soon as I got out of the car, a bellhop proactively helped with my luggage. The moment I pushed open the lobby doors, I was instantly charmed – the aroma was a subtle citrus, not overwhelming or pungent, and the background music was gentle jazz. Even the few minutes spent waiting to check in felt leisurely, a stark contrast to the crowded, chaotic feeling of other hotels 😌

My room was an even bigger surprise! The floor-to-ceiling window overlooked the city's central park, and in the evening, I watched the sunset paint the clouds a honeyed hue. After turning on the lights at night, the lighting was a soft, warm tone, not at all harsh. The bedding was just the right firmness; lying on it felt like sinking into a cloud. I'm usually someone who struggles to sleep in new places, but last night, I fell asleep the moment my head hit the pillow, and a huge chunk of my travel fatigue just melted away 🌙 The bathroom had a separate wet and dry area, and the toiletries had a subtle woody scent. The shower pressure was great, and the hot water came out super fast, leaving me completely relaxed after my shower.

Breakfast exceeded expectations too. The freshly made wontons were plump and generously filled, the freshly ground coffee was incredibly aromatic, and even the fruit was neatly cut and arranged, truly fresh, not like those wilted fruits that have been sitting out all day 🍉

The detail that touched me the most was that the front desk knew it was my birthday (I mentioned it when filling out my check-in info). That evening, they sent up a small box of handmade cake and a handwritten card. The handwriting was a bit wobbly, but it was incredibly warm and heartfelt. This kind of thoughtful, understated care is a hundred times more pleasant than flashy marketing.

The value for money is truly excellent. It's perfect for both business trips and a quick weekend city getaway. I've already recommended it to colleagues who travel frequently in my department. Next time I'm in this city, I'm definitely staying here again! 👍

This place is essentially like a bathhouse or hot spring spa back home, the kind where you pay 39-79 RMB for unlimited soaking. The difference is, their bunks aren't first-come, first-served; you need to register for one.

Anyone who's spent a night at a bathhouse knows that how well you sleep entirely depends on the people around you. I had bad luck this time – two people nearby were snoring, so I barely slept all night. Otherwise, just imagine it's a hot spring spa. If you've never been, a 39-RMB experience will give you the idea.

Overall, it's actually pretty good. I booked a bunk on the second floor, which requires a password to enter. The showers and toilets are shared but in multiple private rooms. There are several rows of tables in the common area, so you can bring your laptop and continue working if you need to. If you enjoy soaking, the baths on the fourth floor are also nice.

The location is indeed unbeatable. It's very close to Ueno-Okachimachi Station and Ueno isn't far either, making it a lively and bustling area. Plus, the outside noise doesn't bother you inside. I'd recommend it to anyone who needs early morning transport or plans to stay out late in Ueno. Just bring earplugs. For photos, look at others' – I only have one quick snap from a QQ group chat where I was complaining.

The location is super convenient; as soon as you step out of the hotel, you're surrounded by all sorts of restaurants and convenience stores. The room itself was very clean and comfortable, well-equipped too. The staff were really friendly and helpful, always ready to answer any questions. Highly recommend this place, I'd definitely come back!

Not far from the subway station, which makes getting around very convenient. There are many restaurants downstairs. The service attitude was great, very warm and welcoming. The hotel was also very quiet. I would definitely choose this hotel again next time I visit Tokyo.

Its a simple hostel. The good thing is they have a sento which you can use from 3:30am until 1:30am. The bed is fairly comfortable. Staffs are good mannered.

The front desk Myanmar guy intentionally gave me some hard time telling me my English name is different from my legal name which is funny. I came to this hotel 2months ago it was the same guy who check me in and he even mentioned he recognized me but giving me hard time at check in which is something I don’t get?! 

The dryer is extremely dirty. 

One Japanese mid age female front desk came over to our room being pushy for checking out saying she will charge us more money after 11:15pm.

This hotel is overall in a really old condition. The floor carpet is wear out

The location is very good, many shops & restaurant nearby the hotel.

The service is good. Unlucky, the lift was damaged in the first day when we check-in.  The staff is very helpful to send our luggage to our rooms by stair.  Work hard!!

The room temperature is high as the capacity of A/C is small in such a big room.

Both the hotel facilities and the guest room were exceptionally clean, making my stay incredibly comfortable. The front desk staff were consistently polite and friendly, leaving a great impression regarding their service.

Furthermore, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a complimentary upgrade from a semi-double room to a King room, which I truly appreciated. This thoughtful gesture made my stay even more spacious and relaxing.

On the other hand, while the amenities provided covered the basic necessities, I found them to be somewhat lacking compared to other hotels in the same price range. Nevertheless, my overall satisfaction was high, and I would definitely consider staying here again if I have the opportunity.

First off, this location is a bit out of the way, if you intend to stay close to the downtown...you have to take the ”Portliner” a few stops.

No issue for me, but did not realize this when I booked.
I chose it because of the onsen / sauna, and I was very satisfied: this was the best sauna / cold tub I had in Japan (so far).

Was hotter (and colder) than anything else. The actual hot-tub was good too, but I focus on sauna ＞ cold tub cycles more than anything.

Rooms are new and look good, if not a bit small. As expected. 

Stay for a night if you are on the fence...use the onsen...have a coffee-milk afterwards. You'll feel great.

Rooftoop bar / restaurant was nice as well and very friendly staff!

I initially thought that staying in a hostel/capsule hotel like this would be a terrible experience, but it turned out to be surprisingly good. Of course, I booked it because it was cheap. During the peak season of the Snow Festival, it was significantly cheaper, even half the price of other regular hotels. So, even if the experience was bad, I could tolerate it, but it actually wasn't. Plus, I got to experience the local (northern) sauna culture, which was quite new for me, a southerner.

First, let's talk about the location. It's a straight five-minute walk from Susukino Station, and there's also a city tram stop right outside, so transportation is very convenient. Personally, I recommend taking the airport bus because you don't have to drag your luggage so far. In Susukino, it's naturally convenient for dining and shopping. There's a convenience store just across the street downstairs, basically solving most of your needs.

There are 4.5 floors of hotel accommodation, with over a hundred beds on each floor. When I went, it was the peak season of the Snow Festival, but the occupancy rate seemed to be only about half, so there weren't that many people near your bed. There might be occasional noise, but guests from all over the world are generally well-behaved and consciously control their volume during quiet hours. So, staying here is pretty much like a school dorm. If you can accept a school dorm, then this place should be fine too.

After staying, I realized that this place is essentially a three-in-one: accommodation is capsule (hostel) + internet cafe. You buy a bed, and the public area provides basic entertainment like comics. Showering is in a Japanese public bathhouse, which also has hot spring pools and a sauna area. I recommend that those who haven't been before should learn about the customs and etiquette in advance. The dining area is similar to an izakaya, operating from evening until 1 AM, offering basic staple foods and some drinks. The overall facilities and services are quite comprehensive, and I didn't feel any inconvenience during my four or five-day stay.

If you think the bed is expensive, there's a sneaky trick (prerequisite: you need to understand Japanese and the billing rules). You can use it like a Japanese public bathhouse, just like the locals do. Go in and select the 'day trip' (日帰り) option on the machine. Sometimes, the final bill will be cheaper than booking a bed. However, the downside is that you won't have a bed, and you'll have to find a place to spend the night in the dining area or public lounge on the 7th floor. If there are too many people, you might not find a place to rest. So, judge for yourselves. This trick is recommended for those who are more familiar with Japan.

Before staying, I saw some reviews mentioning two concerns, and now I'll address them based on my actual experience: First, female staff passing through the changing area outside the bathhouse. I did encounter this two or three times. I guess the front desk and dining staff took the stairs to the dining area to save elevator waiting time. They also tried to keep their heads down and avoid looking, so I personally don't mind. If you do, then I suggest you consider not staying here. Second, the air conditioning is kept at 18-20 degrees Celsius (64-68°F), which was perfect for me. After all, it's below zero outdoors, and too large a temperature difference can be uncomfortable.
