Castle View Guesthouse

Everything about Castle view is first class. Beautifully styled & decorated, and ideally situated for the old part of the city. The room we had was very spacious & comfortable with a really high end bathroom. Would definitely recommend & will be staying here again.

We stayed at Church View Guest House for 2 nights and what a good choice it was. Arrived before 4pm check in time but were not able to gain access. Returned at 4pm and this time the door was answered by a gentleman who didn’t introduce himself (looked more surprised if anything). The room was excellent and very clean, my only bug bear is that the bathroom door should have a hook to hang dressing gowns which are provided. Breakfast was excellent cooked by a lovely young man called Marcel who couldn’t do enough and was very helpful. Will definitely stay here again if I visit Durham again.

Perfect stay. Excellent location, well thought out comfortable room, marvellous breakfast, very friendly. If I were to return to Durham I would certainly want to stay at Castle View again. Easy walking distance to every place we wanted to visit.

Lovely welcome from friendly people. Comfy beds and no plastic mattress covers! Room was spacious and beautifully decorated with lots of space for clothing etc. The shower was excellent, lots of hot water. Breakfast well cooked and delicious. The guesthouse is just a few minutes walk from the centre and the views were lovely. There is a rather steep hill to climb up to property as Durham is a very hilly place! But there are benches placed strategically if you need a breather, and you can always pretend that you're looking at the scenery! I would happily return to this guesthouse. As mentioned by another guest, the rooms are not serviced, this really should have been advised to us at check in however it was not problem to get additional toilet rolls etc. The room, number one was spotless and beautifully decorated if a little cold, the weather had changed and it was probably time to put the central hearing on. We enjoyed our stay at the Castle View Guest House, just a couple of ******* prevented a four star review.

A warm welcome from Anne awaits, on a very wet and windy afternoon. We parked and paid for on street parking across the road, no parking at the guest house but Anne gave us a free pass for the following day. Sundays are free. Beautiful decor throughout. We were at the top of the house in room 7. Even though there were plenty of other guests, we didn't hear anyone. The same can't be said for the students who were noisy till around 2 in the morning both nights. Nothing can be done about this, you're in a university city. Breakfast was a preordained at a set time, between 8 and 9am. Very good quality, teas coffees juices fruit yoghurt and full cooked breakfast. I really hate food waste, and this seems to have that eliminated. I've already recommended Castle View to family and friends thinking of visiting Durham.

Lovely centrally located guest house, friendly owners. Very nice rooms and breakfast. Fourth time I’ve stayed there. Street parking can be difficult, even with a permit provided by the owners, unless you arrive fairly early or late.

What a delight, a beautiful place to stay, We arrived early and our room was ready. There is only on street metered parking so having dropped in our bags we drove 2mins up the road, past the pub and easily found a spot, our male host gave us a visitors day pass for our second day so for 2 nights, our parking cost only £10. Perfectly located 5mins walk from the town centre and all the pubs and restaurants, lovely Nadon Thai restaurant opposite, also worth a visit, the food excellent. Our twin room ( No.1) was immaculate, the bathroom a joy with the hottest shower ever, so spotlessly clean, the only negative is that as the room wasn't cleaned throughout our stay, which wasn't a problem at all, the tea, coffee and milk wasn't replenished, although I'm sure if we'd asked then it would have been. We had to order our breakfast the night before so the cereals and juice are ready at the table and the cooked breakfast was so hot and fresh and perfect, unlimited coffee and tea and toast, the lady host could not do enough for us, an absolute exceptional host and good luck to the trainee today, she will also do a first class service. Would we stay again...absolutely.

Charming guest house in beautiful location with views of the nearby cathedral, castle and church. Several nearby pubs on the cobbled hill. Immaculately presented rooms, spotlessly clean and elegantly decorated. Excellent cooked breakfast and welcoming, friendly owners. Well worth a visit.
