"Very pleased with our stay! Excellent location beachfront. Beautiful views of Diamond Head Crater. Super excellent location to be in the middle of all shops, beaches and restaurants . Short walks to explore & enjoy up and down the streets and beaches! All staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Clean and well maintained. Great assistance with booking activities. My daughter took a surf lesson. Beachside conveniently had plenty of water activities to enjoy with an area to rent paddle boards , surf boards, floats, chairs & umbrellas. The restaurants inside the resort were excellent and convenient with outdoor seating and ocean views! ABC general store on lower level to shop for anything needed from drinks, snacks, beach towels, souvenirs, sunscreen etc…The resort also offers free activities that are on a schedule week by week, such as yoga, hula lessons, Lei & bracelet making, vow renewals & ukulele lessons! My 15yo daughter took a ukulele lesson, then shopped around and bought one to bring home!!! We have absolutely no complaints about our stay! Will absolutely be coming back in the future. Our flight home was a late evening flight & our check out time was 11:00am, so the bell hop service held our luggage for us so we could enjoy the rest of our last day on the beach. Then we decided to top off our last day to pamper ourselves with a spa treat, which is located on the top floor of the resort. I got a massage. My daughter got a facial. Afterwards we got to go to the outside roof top and enjoy the awesome view feeling refreshed & relaxed. I can go on and on about the positives of this vacation stay. There were no negative issues!"
"Hotels in Hawaii are all old, but this one is relatively cost-effective. It is a small suite, and the sofa bed in the living room is also large and comfortable. You need to call to ask for dental supplies and slippers. The location is also good. What's frustrating is that the breakfast is the same as in a big cafeteria. No matter if you go early or late, you have to queue up to get your meal. The food is also very single..."
"Our recent stay at Hilton Vacation Club The Modern Honolulu was a blend of highs and lows, with its strengths balanced by a few notable drawbacks. Situated in a reasonably good location and boasting cleanliness throughout, the hotel offered convenience and comfort in many aspects with a great pool and bar area including a separate adults pool. However, certain factors detracted from the overall experience, leaving us with mixed feelings about our time there.
Let's start with the positives. The hotel's location, while not directly in the heart of the city hub, offered a decent compromise between convenience and tranquility. Close proximity to Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon provided easy access to beach activities and waterfront relaxation, adding a touch of serenity to our stay. Additionally, we found the hotel to be impeccably clean, with well-maintained facilities and a commitment to hygiene that was commendable.
Despite these strengths, there were some notable downsides to our experience. The most significant inconvenience was the walking distance to the main city hub, which required a 15-20 minute walk to reach popular attractions, dining establishments, and shopping venues. While not a dealbreaker, this added a layer of logistical planning to our daily activities and limited spontaneity.
Another issue that significantly impacted our stay was the persistent noise from the elevator. Unfortunately, our room was located close to the elevator, resulting in constant disturbances throughout the day and night. The loud mechanical noises disrupted our sleep and detracted from the overall ambiance of relaxation that we had hoped for.
In summary, Hilton Vacation Club The Modern Honolulu offered a mix of positives and negatives during our stay. While the hotel's cleanliness and proximity to Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon were definite highlights, the walking distance from the city hub, the disruptive elevator noise, and having to pay for hotel parking detracted from the overall experience."

"We had such a great time couple days the winds were high, but we didn’t let that spoil our vacation. The sun was out that’s the most important thing in the temperature was in the 70s and 80s and so perfect for people from Seattle Washington rainbows you know it’s a tropical area so the rainbows appear in the sky just so beautiful fireworks on Friday night was outstanding. Looks like all of Waikiki came to look And we stayed in the Tapa building and ocean view just outstanding. The restaurants to Bali was fabulous. The restaurants are on the street level was fantastic and we walked around the city and experience various type of cuisine. This is an outstanding vacation seven days and my wife and I are so glad that we have mobility and at our age so we could really enjoy the beach. Enjoy the catamaran enjoy just walking around the city shopping and so just outstanding. We look forward to another vacation like that. "

"The hotel is a bit old, but
it is well managed and the location is very good for the price.
The hotel is within 5 minutes walking distance to the main street.
However, the swimming pool is small and simple.
It is useful for those who prefer the ocean rather than the swimming pool."
"The hotel is in a good location. You can walk to any place in WAIKIKI. It is very close to the lake, so you can walk or run. The hotel has a small swimming pool, a small gym, and a lobby to receive guests. There is also a place to work. It is relatively quiet. The front desk clerk is enthusiastic and upgraded our room for free. The room was originally on the 3rd floor, but it was upgraded to the 8th floor with a view of the lake. There is a microwave and a small refrigerator in the room, as well as plates and cutlery."
"Japanese hotel, we arrived late and helped me upgrade to the suite. The house is large enough to cook. There is a swimming pool. At night the water is a bit cold. You can soak in the heated swimming pool. When booking, it is stated that there is no resort fee. Late in Hawaii is very cheap. After we check out, we can see that the price has risen to more than 1,000 a night."
"Located in the legendary city center. The mattress was sunken, and it was covered with a blanket, and the color was a bit inexplicable. Intensely contact yourself and bring a 4-piece set. Due to the old mattress, the head and feet are higher than the buttocks after going to bed. Service is acceptable. The air-conditioning sound is crazy loud, estimated to be 50 decibels. The space is larger and the sea view is a little bit too. The equipment is relatively complete, and you can cook if you are diligent."
"The beach was directly connected to the hotel and was very convenient. I was impressed by the quiet and beautiful beach without the quarrels of Waikiki Beach. The hotel facilities are a bit old, but the staff are very friendly and recommended."

Excellent
NNoskovConsider it a happy little accident. I had missed my flight home because of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Day Parade and was stuck an extra day on Oahu. I looked to see what was the cheapest hotel room available and the Ka La’i popped up which surprised me.
Booked the room quick because the Honolulu Marathon was the following day and almost every hotel was sold out.
I got an ocean view suite with a King bed as my room and loved it. Bathroom was amazing, bed was super comfortable and overall the suite was spacious. Although it had a kitchen it didn’t have a dedicated dining table, even a small one. Only thing in the sitting area was a glass coffee table that was long enough for my needs of just a late night pizza dinner.
Staff was helpful and even as I was checking out, I casually asked if I could tour the Penthouse suite because I had always wanted to book it. The 2 front desk workers escorted me to the Penthouse and gave me a little tour. It was impressive.
Definitely would stay there again soon.

SseanvickyI booked this hotel three times between Ctrip and Qunar, because the price dropped the closer I got. The location of the hotel is indeed good, the room is large, the balcony has a good view, and it is very comfortable to use. Although the hotel is large, the elevator is very fast, and getting in and out is not as troublesome as some reviews said. The only inconvenience was that I checked out of the room that day, stored my luggage and went shopping. When I came back, I found that on the check-in floor on the second floor, all toilets required swiping a room card to enter, OMG. Later, I went to the change room where the third-floor swimming pool is located. There is no need to swipe the room card there.
It’s very close to Marugame Udon, a popular udon restaurant. The “Mai*” matcha ice cream next to it is also good. You can try the purple potato balls in Duke Lane. The local poke bowl is worth a try.

GGuest UserA must-stay hotel in Honolulu, with its own beach, a pool with a slide, and fireworks every Friday. The room is big, and the bed is big too. Breakfast is too expensive, but there is a supermarket and McDonald's nearby. There is a Starbucks downstairs.

GGuest UserThe hotel is in the center of Waikiki. A lot of shops and restaurants are nearby.I
The beaches are 100 meters away. The famous hotels Moana Surfrider and Hyatt Regency are across the street. Royal Waikiki Center is a beautiful mall nearby. There are a lot of luxury retail stores and restaurants in the mall.

GGuest UserUhhhhh..... We stayed in this hotel because our flight got in late and we needed a place close to the airport to crash for one night. This hotel fits that purpose well. That said, I wouldn't recommend this hotel for any other situation other than the one I just described. They were pumping sewage right outside of our door the morning we woke up. Also, our room key didn't work the morning we were checking out. The only other positive of this hotel is that it is within walking distance of THE BEST little food place we came across on our whole trip: Joe's Grill Express. We cannot wait to come back so we can visit Joe's again.
FFlo RetaReview and rating solely based on our one night stay. High on convenience because our flight arrived late so rental cars were closed. It’s a few minutes (about 5) from airport where we needed to get our car next day. At the outset of entering there’s taped off area in lobby like work being done and a bit pungent smell that gives you an off the bat impression. Friendly receptionist. Room was not very likable as sheets felt and smelled too starchy it was uncomfortable to sleep in. Beds (two twins) felt old and somewhat lumpy. Shuttle does run on the hour til 12:30am and we were lucky to catch the last one and to get back to airport next morning. In conclusion, it met our convenience needs but way overpriced for the subpar room accommodation (174$ total).
MmrKarstenStaying at Manoa Inn feels like stepping into a living piece of Honolulu’s layered past. This plantation-style historical house is full of quiet character, from its timeworn woodwork to the gentle creak of its stairways. The inn is surrounded by gardens that seem to breathe—ferns unfolding, orchids slipping open, birds singing from hidden corners. One morning, I sipped coffee to the chatter of parrots and caught the city unfolding below through a frame of palms.
The location is as thoughtful as the house itself—steps away from the East-West Center, the serene carp garden, and the Manoa Japanese Tea House. Nearby cafés and small eateries feed both hunger and curiosity without fanfare. Nothing here feels manufactured. The inn doesn’t shout for attention—it invites you to listen, to linger, to notice. I left with a sense of having not just visited, but having been quietly welcomed.

GGuest UserFor someone wanting to experience Waikiki on a budget it’s a great price! Perfect location right across the street from the ocean and the beach! It’s only 2 min walk to the zoo and the Waikiki trolly bus stop is less then a block away and it’s only $5 a day to take. This hotel is perfect for convenience and location!! The bed isn’t the most comfortable and there are nicer and cleaner hotels but your going to pay a-lot more for that. This was perfect for a short few day trip I took! I’ll definitely book there again! Also their parking lot is not very big so if your getting a rental car I would call them first to confirm they have a spot available for your car to be parked if they do it’s only $30 a night which is also a great price! But that was sold out the whole time I was there. I didn’t need it because I didn’t have a rental car. But I could see that being an issue if you have a rental car.

GGuest UserThere is a main building and an annex, but the annex is really bad, and if you stay in the main building, the cost-effectiveness is really good! I stayed for 3 nights and stayed in the annex on the first day and was so depressed that I paid extra money to upgrade my room to the main building, and I was very satisfied! And it's very noisy because it's a downtown area, so take that into consideration! This is a picture of the bathroom when I stayed in the annex, but there was no ventilation and no lighting in the shower cubicle.. It was poor. Compare it with the pictures of the main building!
