Hillcrest Hall Country Inn

The view of the ocean from the front porch is spectacular. The room was fine and the bed was good. The inn is old - so expect creaks and hearing footsteps and other noises. There really isn't any common space except for what is used at breakfast but that part of the inn is closed off in the evening. Breakfast was a simple but lovely buffet.

Wendy was so accommodating for my stay in August of 2023 as the schedule changed last minute due to the August Gales and Marine Atlantic's Ferry across the Cabot Strait was cancelled for the following day. Wendy was a great hostess and prepared our breakfast as a to-go meal since our stay was shortened due to needing to catch the mid-night ferry.

Beautiful stay at the Hillcrest Hall Country Inn. The room was beautiful, spacious and the view of the water was amazing. Very comfortable bed. There was air conditioning available but opening the window and hearing the waves was soothing. The breakfast, which is included, was delicious and there was a wide selection of hot and cold items. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The nearby beach was a short walk away and perfect for a stroll after breakfast before we continued on with our journey around Cape Breton Island. Hillcrest Hall is definitely a gem of a place to stay !

The Inn had been recently restored and is located very near to one of Port Hood's lovely beaches. Our rooms were quiet, comfortable and spacious. The breakfast, which is included in the room rate, was delicious and served in an expansive, bright dining room. Their staff were gracious and very responsive. The sunsets are brilliant and easily viewed from the patio.

This is a comfortable inn with clean, spacious rooms. There is plenty of on-site parking and seating on the porch, overlooking the water. The dining area where breakfast is served also has plenty of seating and the breakfast is buffet style with hot and cold options. The day we stayed, there were scrambled eggs, bacon, scones, bread, pastries, fruit, yogurt. The room was spacious and included air conditioning. An effort has been made to furnish the room in line with the historic design of the building but the bathroom could use some updates (looks very 1990’s in era); some period details/accents or even a piece of art would help. The location of the inn is great and we would not hesitate to stay here again.

Port Hood was a good spot to stay-lovely beaches, a short drive to Bras/ Or, and yet, out of the crowded areas. I originally wanted to stay in Ingonish, but couldn't book a place. This turned out to be a good thing. Hillcrest doesn't disappoint. First, the rooms are clea, and well appointed. I'm old, and have throid med to take in the AM; I want water & the pill next to me. I found many places don't have a night table next to the bed. The lighting in our room was good, as well;The windows open to the sea breeze, with the ocean right across the street. The staff was lovely and kind - everyone. They offered to put small amounts of food in the fridge for us. leftovers from a restaurant, yogurt & fruit from the small grocery. (

Stayed here after driving the Cabot Trail and a visit at the Glenora Distillery. Nice little town with lots of beaches. Cute B&B overlooking the water. Some exterior renovations going on during the day, but they don't interfere with enjoying the setting or relaxation. Super host. Enjoys mingling with clients at the breakfast and makes good recommendations for things to see/do, places to eat in the area. Enjoyed our short stay, Recommended. Would return

We stayed as a couple one night in a king room. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The breakfast the next morning and the staff were great! The only downside is there are no restaurants that serve food in the area past 8;00. Local beaches are beautiful
