Augustus Bove House

Should have written this sooner. Looking back, my wife and I had a great trip to Maine and the August Bove house was a significant part of that. We split our trip between the coast and inland lakes. Coming from the coast, we were excited to be in Naples. The August Bove house is right in the center and a quick walk to anywhere in town. You can see it in the background of our picture from the water. Yet, it’s secluded enough to be restful and peaceful. We stayed in one of the stand-alone cabins and we had access to a porch, and tv room. There were more than enough supplies for the two of us and was very cozy. It was just off the main House so breakfasts were easy. The owners are quite friendly and approachable. They were ready with suggestions and recommendations. They always asked for our preferences and were happy to accommodate. In addition, the homemade jams are a wonderful surprise, and there’s a great story about it, to be heard, if you engage them. It was also easy to come and go, since the cabins have their own driveways. If your trip to Maine includes the inland lakes area, Naples is lovely for that “change of pace”. The August Bove house is a great part of why.

The "Augustus Bove House" is located in Naples at the causeway at Long Lake - above Sebago Lake. It's convenient to the town and local roads. A historic house, it's now a popular B &B. We had a comfortable room with a view of the lake - the room was large and nicely furnished. It was nice, but the bathroom was small and the shower was very small. Unfortunately the TV - which was on a Roku system- did not work properly- and had to be repeatedly reset - annoying. And the WiFi connection was not dependable - very annoying. The hosts/owners were friendly and helpful.

Hosts were welcoming and friendly -- our "cottage" was simple and just what was described. We had our own screened porch, living room, bedroom -- loads of privacy and steps away from the amenities of the House itself. Good food nearby -- good walking -- a lovely visit!

This b&b could use some love, a good cleaning and an update. The hosts, particularly Dennis, were lovely beforehand and during our visit. He was very helpful with activity suggestions. The place itself needs a major overhaul and a new cleaning person. Our room was so dirty. The bathroom. had not been cleaned. The toilet was filthy both inside and out. The floor looked like it had never been cleaned and there was toothpaste splatter on the mirror. This would be unacceptable in the. best. of times but with COVID, this didn't feel so great. They did apologize and offer and refund. The location. cannot be beat if you're going to be in Naples and parking is easy. The breakfast was nothing to write home about.For me, one of the best parts of a B&B over a hotel is a special breakfast and this was anything but. I hope the hosts invest in a real cleaning service and put some money and thought in to their B&B because it really could be fabulous.

The moment you walk in the front door you feel welcomed like you are family. The hosts are remarkable people who really enjoy the interaction with there quests. Soon you will feel like you have known them for years. This is an old building with a rich history that the hosts are glad to share with you. Being an old building there are pros and cons and the only reason I don't award five stars is the condition of the building itself. Needs some TLC and our bathroom was micro level small. Kept on hitting my knees on the magazine rack which I am not sure was really needed. Location is 6 stars with a short walk to restaurants, lake and many great ice cream stands.

We stayed in the suite on the first floor. Very quiet room and everything we needed was there. Wonderful full breakfast in included and was great. Fresh coffee in the morning, and k cups always available. Also, very close to many of the restaurants and the town beach, for which a pass can be provided. A great stay.

Hosts were lovely but that doesn’t make up for mold in shower, thread bare sheets and towels which should have been retired,! Lamp shade plastic liner cracked and missing pieces! Carpet stained. No special touches!
