For its price and location, you can never go wrong. Room is clean though doesn’t provide amenities like water. Just towels. It’s in the corner of central park and lots of coffee shop and stores nearby. Near bus stop and subway. Can walk to timesquare. Bathroom is shared but always clean. Will stay again if I can go back to NYC

Can’t beat it for the price. Rooms are spartan, as expected. Only complaint is it’s a bit noisy - thin doors and window air conditioners let a lot of noise in.

I was a bit daunted by reviews when booking but was pleasantly surprised. Firstly, you get what you pay for (and a bit more). It’s a hostel with private rooms, not a hotel. Once you realize that, you manage your expectations. It is in a prime location next to Central Park and a short walk to Times Square. It is near a metro station and there are lots of stores and restaurants nearby. The room was adequate (I booked a single room). It was clean and comfortable. Inside the room was a small tv, a small refrigerator, a desk a twin bed and a small closet area. I wasn’t too concerned about the room because I didn’t intend to spend much time in there but it was comfortable enough for my stay. The bathrooms are shared but are privately used so you don’t actually share it with anyone while using. It was always clean and regularly checked (but of course as they are shared some people clear up after themselves better than others). There were several so I never needed to wait more than a few mins. The shower pressure was fine and the water temperature was perfect for me. Even though you pay for gym and facility use when you stay, I never used them so can’t comment on them. The checkin and check out processes were easy. The staff were all friend and helpful. The building felt safe and I never felt worried about anything. I don’t really have any negatives to comment on. There was a little noise at time from other residents but that’s beyond the control of the staff etc.

Good value. Excellent location. For same price, you only find hostel rooms sharing with others. But here you have single room. YMCA is always good value.

Very Good

I spent two weeks traveling solo in NYC. The first week I stayed in at Times Square area and saw most of the touristy sites. The second week I decided to stay here. If you have traveled well enough, you will appreciate getting a room at this location for this price point. The cleanliness was acceptable. During the daytime, if the common bathroom is occupied, you can use the shower in the swimming pool area, strong, hot shower. I really enjoyed my stay. They have a lovely crew running the facilities, gym, swimming pool and security. I only met one extremely rude and unfriendly staff member who works at the check-in counter. I will come back again in a heartbeat.

The room's facilities are very basic, consisting of only a table, chairs, a mirror, a safe, a few clothes hangers, and a bunk bed. When you sit on the lower bed, you can't sit upright because your head will hit the upper bed. The floor and walls are dirty. You have to share the bathroom with others, and the hygiene isn't very good. There are no toothpaste, toothbrush, shower gel, shampoo, hair dryer, or slippers provided, and not even a bottle of water. At least the staff at the check-in lobby are friendly, and the bed is soft and comfortable, though it's a bit noisy. Fortunately, I only booked it for one night.

Terrible facility, extra payment on counter, horrible services but expensive. Not a traditional christian institution. No one was on the counter but I heard staff arguing in a very high volume with many F words when I checked-in at around 11pm. The room is small, and the bunk bed was also short and narrow, with chewing gum on it. There's not restroom inside. Thus, when the second day they found my card cannot work and there's not a single staff member who knows how to fix it for me, they sent an engineer to help me open my room and asked me not to come out or I could not be back to my room. I couldn't get to the restroom until the next morning I reached the counter to fix my card. Overall, it's a horrible trip. I hate New York. And West Side YMCA is the biggest reason.

I recently stayed at the West Side YMCA, and while it had some positives, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again. The best thing about this place is the location—right next to Central Park and close to subway stations, making it easy to explore Manhattan. The rooms were extremely basic, which I expected, but the shared bathrooms were sometimes inconvenient, especially during peak hours. While they were generally clean, the overall condition of the facilities felt a bit outdated. The gym and pools were a nice perk, but they didn’t make up for the lack of comfort in the rooms. Staff were okay, but it felt more like a hostel than a proper hotel. If you’re strictly looking for a cheap place to crash in a prime location, it might work, but for me, I’d rather spend a little more for a better experience elsewhere.
