The Merchant

This inn was a dream to stay at! Every staff member was so kind and welcoming! They had fresh baked scones and fritattas every morning and fresh *warm* chocolate chip cookies every afternoon. All of it tasted immaculate. We looked forward to breakfast every day and coming in from the cold to a warm cookie was just amazing! This inn is also centrally located so we walked everywhere. It has some really cool history behind it too! We took a walking tour (history and haunts walking tour with Dean was equally wonderful) and the inn was part of the tour! Finally, the room was beautiful. It was so welcoming and lovely. The fireplace and heated bathroom floor were very much needed after walking in the cold all day. The bed was so comfortable I didn't even miss my own! If you are making a trip to Salem, you absolutely MUST stay at The Merchant! You will not regret it 💜

Clean and unique bed and breakfast in the heart of Salem. Overhead light sporadically turned during my first night's stay.

I really enjoyed breakfast by the fireplace! I appreciate the choice of teas, delicious frittata, and yogurt compote. The room was lovely and spacious, and the staff were excellent.

Lovely historic home with well appointed rooms. I love that there are food and snacks available at all times and on different levels of the house we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and when returning to Salem will stay again. Staff was very communicative, friendly, helpful and like check-in was a breeze.

This was one of my favorite places to stay! Its a beautiful location to stay with a rich history. The staff was fantastic answering all of my many questions and even sending information when the walkways would be slippery. Also, their scones in the morning were incredible. Absolutely fantastic place to stay and customer service!

The Christmas decorations were exquisite! Wrapping gifts under the tree by the fireplace was a highlight. The Staff were welcoming, attentive and helpful.

I had an amazing stay at The Merchant in Salem. The hospitality was outstanding from the moment I arrived — the environment felt warm, welcoming, and very family-oriented. One of the highlights was definitely the homemade snacks; they were truly exceptional and made the stay feel even more personal. The property is spotless, and the level of care put into keeping everything clean really stands out. The location is also perfect, close enough to walk to the main attractions and enjoy the city comfortably. Overall, the attention, comfort, and charm of this hotel made my experience unforgettable. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed my stay at the Merchant. I loved the history of the property, its location, the extra comfort touches everywhere in both the common areas and the individual rooms. The small deck in the rear of the building offered a pleasant seating area outside, the property is well maintained inside and out. Loved being able to walk everywhere, can’t wait to return to Salem and the Merchant.
