Scenic Hotels in Hakone

"Location was good. Mount Fuji view from the room. You are able to see the whole lake. Check in staff was detailed and informative. But nobody was there to help with bags. There’s a few steps up to the lobby and there’s not slope for us to push the luggages. We drag it up and down ourselves.  Not much selections with food. Breakfast was bad and expensive. Dinner was okay at French restaurant. Good thing was there’s an onsen in the hotel. Parking was free. "

"If you have extra money, this could be a nice way to indulge. However, a word of warning. If you're arriving at Odawara train station, there's no way to get to the hotel except by the hotel shuttle. Taxis won't take you. And the hotel shuttle won't take you unless you've placed your name on the reservation list ahead of time. Nobody warned me about this. I'd read online that a connecting train takes you near the hotel, but this isn't true either. I arrived during a snow/ice storm and waited over 3 hours before I could get a ride to the hotel. The shuttle driver wouldn't let me on. I called the hotel front desk 3 or 4 times, but they weren't very helpful. I suppose this is the language barrier. They meant well. But regardless, if a shuttle reservation is the only way to access a remote mountain top hotel, it's pretty important to make sure your guests understand this. Once I did arrive, I have to admit the room was beautiful. The buffet dinner was fantastic but not included in the price of the room - a little disappointing, since the room is already so expensive. Lots of extra costs, so be careful. I received a really great massage in my room. The onsen hot spring was very nice, and free (included in room charge). Breakfast the next morning was also included in room charge. The hotel bar was closed, though. There wasn't much opportunity to socialize or meet people. I did check out the lake the next morning, which was beautiful in the snowfall. I'm sharing photos of that. There wasn't time to check out much else because I had to get back on the shuttle bus at 10:30 to catch my next train. I suppose if there hadn't been an ice storm, I would have checked out more of the surrounding area and appreciated it."

"It was amazing! I visited there as a family trip and it was a great choice! The view is wonderful! We all enjoy the fuji mointain and the lake view, the dinner and breakfast were delicious and the hotspring in the main building was perfect! Thanks for the staffs' kindness. Free shuttle bus was really helpful."

"When I booked this room again, I hesitated again and again because I read other guests' comments and was hesitant because of the inconvenient transportation. In the end, I stayed in this hot spring hotel on the mountain in Hakone. I also contacted the hotel again and again before going, and the hotel responded to me very well, which is very good. Now I want to say that our trip was really smooth this time. It was the best hotel I stayed in during my trip to Japan. First of all, I was not affected by going up and down the mountain. We got a taxi smoothly throughout the whole journey. Remember to take their community shuttle bus, or just call a taxi. It is impossible to walk up, and your legs will be crippled. Other customers said that they might be refused. We didn't encounter this. The two people we met were both a bit older, very dedicated and very polite. When we left the next day, we asked the hotel to call a taxi for us. The first time, because it was early, when they called for us, they said that we should call before departure, and there would definitely be a car. As expected, we called five minutes before departure, and the taxi came up soon. There was nothing to say, the attitude was very good, (400 yen for reserved cars) and only 900 yen for unreserved cars. An old waiter in the hotel was very kind and amiable. Because this hotel is on the mountain, the scenery is really good. It was refreshing to see the scenery in the morning. Speaking of their dinner, we had a Japanese set meal. The male waiter in the restaurant was a young man. He specially took care of us and said that we had a pork hot pot like a root this time, which was very delicious. He said that if the rice was not enough, we could have unlimited refills. We jokingly asked him if the miso soup could be refilled unlimitedly? He smiled very hard and said that it could not be refilled! The expression is super cute, and their breakfast the next day is a buffet, with a lot of things. I remember their hot spring eggs, which I like very much, and their fried fish from the small field. They have special notes on where the fish comes from. The small udon noodles are also delicious. You must go to Hakone, and you must go to the hot spring hotel. The hot spring at night is also invincible. It is open-air and very comfortable. There are two beds in the room, one tatami mat, and two tatami mats are no problem. Their hotel is relatively old, but it is really clean and the service is really good. In short, this trip did not step on thunder, perfect! 1. There is no Chinese service at the front desk, Japanese or English is required 2. The hot spring is in the hotel across the road, very clean and beautiful"

"Excellent accommodation and the location is to die for if MtFuji and the lake is what you’re looking for. A very quiet area in the morning and at night when the tour buses are gone. For those looking to book, here are a few tips we found out to help you out. There’s no receptionist so you will have to figure out how to get in so do not walk on the street side but walk over to the lake side and enter. Otherwise if you enter from the street side, the first pin pad you see is the wrong one. If it’s in front of the door marked “private” then the door code won’t work. Walk around to the front and look for glass doors. That’s where you can enter your door code. The onsen water is extremely hot. Maybe that’s how onsen works but I couldn’t stay for more than 5 minutes as I got dizzy. The loft area is low ceilings but my kids loved sleeping there. However the food here isn’t great so plan accordingly. The 7-11 close by has great snacks. If I ever return to Hakone I would stay here again."

"Great place to stay in Hakone! Just few walks away from the bus stop and town proper of Motohakone, where tourist attractions are located. Feels like home when you stay in this accommodation. I love the hot spring w/ overview of the suburb. Overall, great service, cleanliness, and comfy stay."

"A charming ryokan in the hills above Lake Ashi. My husband and I stayed in an apartment style unit with tatami rooms with futons. We enjoyed the onsen (indoor and outdoor). Breakfast (extra fee) was a traditional and delicious Japanese morning meal. Our unit had a beautiful view of the lake and Mt Fuji. It's a little remote which was wonderful but you'll want to eat before you settle in and pack snacks and tea or coffee for morning. The people were friendly and helpful. You can arrange to be picked up at the Kojiri Terminal. I would stay here again."
