Schoone Oordt Country House

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ **Schoone Oordt Country House is one of those very rare places that stops feeling like a hotel and starts feeling like home.** We first stayed here last year while travelling the Garden Route and loved it so much that there was never really a question of where we would stay when we returned to Swellendam this year. What we didn’t expect was to arrive and be **remembered and welcomed back with genuine hugs and warmth**. That moment said everything about Schoone Oordt. There is such a cozy, personal and family feeling to this beautiful place, and you immediately feel that the people behind it genuinely care about the guests who walk through their doors. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous and full of character. We loved learning about **the story and history behind the house**, which makes staying here feel even more special. Nothing feels generic or impersonal. It has a soul. We stayed in the **family cottages**, which are fantastic. They are spacious, incredibly comfortable and perfect when travelling with children. You have all the charm of the property while still having enough room to properly settle in and feel at home. And the **food deserves its own mention**. Everything is prepared with so much care, from breakfast to the wonderful meals, and of course those **adorable little scones**! ❤️ It’s those thoughtful details that make the experience feel so special. Then there are the cats! At this point, I think the Schoone Oordt cats are officially my girls’ best friends. They absolutely adore them and seeing them again was genuinely part of the excitement of coming back. What we love most about Schoone Oordt is the feeling it gives us. It is beautiful and comfortable, but more importantly, it is **warm**. After a day of travelling and exploring, coming back here feels like coming home. We have now stayed twice, and I honestly cannot imagine doing the Garden Route again without returning. **Every time our travels bring us through Swellendam, Schoone Oordt will be our home there.** Thank you for remembering us, for welcoming us back with open arms, and for making our family feel so genuinely at home. We absolutely adore this place and already look forward to the next time. ❤️

Beautiful hotel., the staff are wonderful and the hospitality was second to none. Well appointed room , everything you’d need to make your stay perfect. Take an adapter if you’re from the Uk. There is a good hairdryer provided and plug sockets are near the mirrors Breakfast was a pleasure and washing the car was an extra treat Thank you for a wonderful stay

Staying here was an experience. An experience of warmth, quality and passion. We felt this was our best stay during our garden route drive. Thank you for thinking about the “small things” which made a real difference. And thanking you for making us feel special celebrating our wedding anniversary. Highly recommended

We had a lovely stay at Schoone Oordt. We loved staying in this beautifully restored historic manor house and learning about its history. The location is perfect, within walking distance of the Drostdy and village centre. The owners, Alison and Richard, and staff were so warm and helpful. The very delicious breakfast offering, in the beautiful conservatory was a delight, and the afternoon tea and scones were such a lovely treat. The pool and gardens are beautiful! Our room was very comfortable, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Schoone Oordt in Swellendam, is a perfect location to base yourself for exploration of the area. They offer a number of great day trips to enjoy.

This place was in a good location with friendly welcoming staff. The decor is very traditional and with lots of character. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. The restaurants in the town were within easy reach.

We have traveled all over the world and have stayed in tons of places - Airbnbs, hotels, hostels, Bed and Breakfasts, you name it. We have never stayed in a place that has not only exceeded our expectations to this degree but has been as wonderful as our stay here. The staff was phenomenal, the property is incredibly special and amazing in every way, the food was outstanding, and everything was just perfect. I honestly can't recommend staying here enough. This is also a hard review because there were surprises that really knocked our socks off for how special this place and the people really were. I don't want to ruin it so you'll have to stay here and experience it yourself. If I could recommend any place on the planet that I've been to, this place would be my #1. If you're considering staying here, there's really nothing to consider. Book it and thank me later, and make sure you thank everyone there for how special they make your experience.

An amazing stay, it is a beautifully restored property retaining original features which has such a warmth and character to the hotel. The welcome you receive when you arrive will make your stay feel like coming home. Craig to very good of us showing us around and serving a refreshing afternoon tea with homemade scones sitting in mature beautiful gardens. The rooms are stunning lots of little touches which make it even more special with crisp cotton white sheets, soft dressing gowns and high quality toiletries. The food is amazing both breakfast and dinner and the staff can’t be more attentive x I surprise in the morning our car had even been washed! This will always be be a stop on any trips we make again to this area.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The house is beautiful, full of character and charm, and the staff were absolutely wonderful — so warm, welcoming and attentive. The food was out of this world and was one of the real highlights of our stay. Everything about the experience felt special. This is definitely a stop that everyone should put on their Garden Route road trip. Our only regret is that we stayed for just one night — it definitely wasn’t enough! We would have loved to stay for two nights and enjoy it for a little longer. A truly memorable stay and somewhere we would happily recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
