Hotel on the edge of Kyles of Bute. Beautiful sea views. Surprisingly good restaurant. Hearty breakfast. Bedrooms have traditional furniture and well appointed bathroom. A great location for folk interested in waters ports and country walks or cycling. Busy during school holidays.

The Royal Hotel is full of character and in a perfect position at the loch’s edge. Rooms with a loch view are spectacular and you’ll spend a few hours just staring out of the window! The restaurant has beautiful seafood and the shinty bar is worth a visit for a drink and a look at the fantastic images of Kyles Athletic players from long ago. Lovely lounge areas too to relax with a book - and the staff couldn’t be nicer. The decor is modern and rooms are a great size. Thoroughly recommend

Excellent full Scottish breakfast well cooked with quality ingredients and a portion to make sure you’ll skip lunch. The hotel has a cheerful ambiance and the evening meals were good as well. The beds need upgrading with mattress toppers and better quality duvets The rooms are spacious and the views are very restful The complimentary tray and kettle was comprehensive

Had a lovely 3 night stay in the hotel, Staff were friendly & attentive, Eleanor & Ryan have recently just taken over management of the hotel & they are great hosts, we had a seaview dog friendly room as we had our fur baby Albus Dumbledog with us, bed was really comfortable, shower was fantastic, bathroom a bit dated but as I said the new management have only been there a short time and they are working hard to get these things updated. All staff on over the weekend were great special thanks to Jacob, Jamie and Daniel who we had a great time with in the bar and lounge on our 1st night, personal concert from the lovely Daniel. Breakfast in hotel was amazing, even Albus had his own bowl of sausages , he was spoiled rotten over the weekend, think everyone who met him wanted to keep him, had dinner in the hotel on the Saturday and Sunday nights again food was amazing, Ryan uses local produce, everything was fresh and tasty, will certainly visit again and recommend to family & friends

I stayed with my partner in July. We had a terrible experience in all. The room, however, was lovely. Management were helpful but staff were not. The service at dinner was poor and the shinty bar was in need of a refurb. Breakfast was the worst though. We were down for breakfast at 9:50 and breakfast was apparently served til 10. We were told breakfast was done. I asked if the chef would make us eggs and we waited while the 1 member of staff dealt with other guests complaints about the food for a good 10 min before we were told to take a seat and we could get eggs. No coffee was available and I couldn’t get water because ‘the bar was shut’. My partner walked out after the member of staff told a guest who asked for more toast that breakfast stopped at 10 and they were making her job ‘harder than it had to be’. Honestly spoiled our stay. We checked out and went to a local coffee shop for breakfast instead. It was outstanding.

Just a few issues! We booked the hotel as on the website and confirmation email it said we could book a canoe. But this was not available We then arrived at room 5 and the carpet was dirty - it clearly hadn’t be hoovered - and the bathroom was also dirty with an unclean toilet, a finished loo roll that had been left there from the people before, and toothpaste splattered up the wall. Our initial thoughts were that it wasn’t turned over properly We then went for a dinner and ordered the monkfish in roasted pama ham - which then arrived without any ham and no explanation. We asked the waitress who said they’d ran out and asked the chef to put normal ham on it. She did her best but the point is you’d normally be told whether a full dish is not quite as advertised - especially given that it was £22 a dish We then went upstairs and pulled back the bed cover. There were hairs in the bed and stains on the bedsheets. We asked for replacement sheets and the girl was very helpful. She said she’d tell the manager, as the cleaning staff didn't come to work today. We remade the bed Finally we went to make a cup of tea and one of the mugs was half full of water with the biscuits sat in it! We tried to speak with the manager again in the morning and she wasn't there, but the staff said she would call us. We checked out and no phone call was received. We then made contact by email and. the manager offered an opportunity to come back and try again. We couldn't do it as we are not local and couldn't afford the time or fuel cost. We were looking to make an agreeable refund, as we did stay dispite the shocking service. However, we were only offered 10% of the booking, which is not acceptable. We tried to speak with the manager and after numerous ignored calls, gave up. We appreciate hotels can have a blip, but it was the poor effort to resolve the matter that's disappointing, as the weekend was a wedding present. Simply avoid this place.

Made a booking and got confirmation for a big sea view room for the New Year that my wife and me were really looking forward too, then weeks after making it just now got a passed on message through ***********. Sorry we have double booked can't accommodate you anymore ! Nice way to do business.. not.. So my advice.. Take any booking and confirmation with a pinch of salt !.

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of our visit to family near Inverness. A delightful hotel and super sea view toward Bute from large bedroom window. A lovely place to sit and unwind. The communal rooms are all nicely and uniquely decorated. Staff are all friendly and helpful. Our room was not cleaned and tea/coffee etc not renewed on second day but it was not a problem and when mentioned to the manager tea / milk etc was renewed immediately without fuss. The restaurant again overlooks the sea and the chef Ryan is so enthusiastic about his cooking it made our visit a joy. Good menu choice and the seafood is wonderful. On our second night Ryan cooked a special for us his take on we would call a surf and turf ( he had another name) beautifully cooked and presented, local meat and fish so fresh and great flavours. Good choice of breakfast again all freshly cooked and served by Ryan. We popped into the Shinty bar, great atmosphere and a chance to meet some locals. We enjoyed our stay to an area of Scotland we had not been to before and would certainly stop here again.
