We phoned Maxine direct to book in at the Ocean. She told us we would love Weymouth, and we did. Upon arriving and telling her we had not visited Weymouth before, she advised us where to park and what we might find of interest locally and in the area, where to shop, where to eat and what places we might like to visit. Maxine is a wealth of knowledge and always happy to help. This is a gem of a find in terms of a Guest House. Location is fab with either a harbour or sea view. We stayed in Room 6, view of the harbour, uppermost floor. Bed was lovely and comfortable. Room warm. light, airy and full of nice little touches that you wouldn't normally think of for a guest house. A little jar of mints, lap tray, mini fridge plus the usual tea, coffee, biscuits, mini bottles of chilled milk, water, kettle, hairdryer and binoculars to add to the comforts and relaxation in the room. Nice cups with saucers and glasses with coasters is much nicer than plain crockery and plastic bathroom beakers. Lush carpets, chairs and a little table to sit with a cup of tea and watch the world go by. Plenty of storage, shoe box and hanging space for clothes, coats and possessions. Shower had a note to say that it takes a while for hot water to filter through but we had no issues and there were other guests showering at the same time. Shower lovely, warm, nice water pressure and large too. A basket of toiletries and places to stash your personal items in the bathroom and within the shower was a great idea I thought. Rooms were lovely and clean as was bathroom. Good pillows too. Lovely sash windows that you can open wide and watch the harbour life, yachts, fishing boats and cormorants. We were lucky enough to have the RLNI lifeboat station hold a brass band carol concert opposite the Guest House whilst we were there and there was the Santa chasing the Christmas Pudding Run on the beach too. Locality for the guest house is great for walking into town either for shopping or food. Some nice independent shops and the usual high street brands and stores. Nothe Gardens worth a visit and is a short walk across the bridge. We did the Illuminate evening event at Abbotsbury which was a nice treat, not too long nor a challenging walk but worth a visit at this time of year. It was our first stay, a week before Christmas but we look forward to returning again soon. The Ocean Guest House itself is amazing and full of quirky bits and personal touches. Lots to look at and plenty to entertain. Breakfasts were lovely with a range of foods to choose from and a tasty cooked breakfast. Maxine is kind, caring and so very friendly. A lovely lady, so easy and enjoyable to talk to. If you need anything just ask. The only down side for us was the awful noise we were unfortunate to experience from The Chatsworth Hotel next door as the owner and their "guests" partied until beyond a respectable time. It started around 9pmish on the Friday and did not abate until proba
